The principal's secretary

My hands trembled as I called a third with no response. What happened to him? I wondered, he was fine when I came. I didn’t spend time thinking I was at the verge of calling for help when I poked his head with the smooth end of a pencil. "Mr. Rodrigo!"

In that moment, his eyes fell open, bulging out as he flinched, "yes! Yes!"

Startled at his reaction, I sprang out of my seat, "Mr. Rodrigo! You got me scared. I thought you fainted!"

"Oh, no. I didn't- I was uh- I was..."

"You were sleeping!" I rudely interrupted.

He rested his hands on his desk, bowed slightly before raising his head with a chagrined expression, "Please don't tell anyone about this. Actually, I've been sleepy all morning even before you came in."

"Is everything alright?" I asked before taking my seat again.

"Except for pains here and there, I'm doing fine. It's just that, my wife won't believe me. She fears I might be diabetic if I don't shed some pounds. She even got me a gym instructor."

"Okay."
