Broken promises

The sound of classic music played in the background, with the small crowd of friends, schoolmates and relatives, dancing in the well lighted and decorated sitting room. It was a special day, being the birthday of the only son of Don Carlo, the great landlord of South Douro valley.

The party was organized by Addison’s uncle, Federico who at that time was in charge of the farm. He and his wife Hadassah greatly loved Addison and cared for him as their own. They made sure the party went well, with lots of food and drinks for their esteemed guest. However, how well could a party go, when the celebrant was sad?

That January night, Addison was out in the cold, under the early showers of snow with beautiful grey eyes looking longingly at the gate in expectation of the two most important people in his young life: his parents.
