Sebastian walked around to the opposite side of the car and opened Erik's door. "Cousin, we need to get back to London as soon as possible." He said.
"What's going on?" Erik asked.
Pearl got back into the car and began breathing. Her contractions had begun and she wanted to remain as calm as possible for the hour and half drive back to the city.
"Pearl is in labor." Sebastian said. Erik looked at her and grabbed her hand. "Are you?" He asked.
"Yes." She said. Erik asked if the tire was fixed yet.
"He has the flat one almost off. We are getting the spare on in a moment." Sebastian said. "Pearl, are you alright?" He asked.
"Yes. Please hurry though." She said. Erik called the hospital but he had no service in the area.
"Bash, are you getting any service out here?" He asked.
"No, 'fraid not." He said, checking his phone.
Several minutes had gone by. It had been over twenty minutes since her water broke now and she was becoming afraid.
"Try to relax, Pearl. We will get you to the hospital." Erik said. Pearl smiled and nodded but she was terrified. The contractions were getting stronger and things were happening faster than she would have liked.
Erik felt the urgency in her breathing.
"Sebastian, can you handle the tire? I am going to walk to the nearest house and call the paramedics." Erik said. Sebastian nodded and was able to finally get the old tire off. Erik and the driver took off walking in separate directions, hoping one of them would find a house quickly.
"Ahhh. Oooo." Pearl gasped. Sebastian walked over to her to check on her.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
"I didn't think these things happened so quickly. Labor. I'm in a lot of pain and the contractions are giving me less of a rest in between. I feel a lot of pressure. I feel I want to push." Pearl said.
"No. No don't push. Not yet. I need to get this tire on." Sebastian said, moving again to the front tire.
"Bash!" Pearl shouted. He came back to her and opened her door. "Bash. I need you to do something for me. I need you to reach on my purse and get out the hand sanitizer. Put it on your hands and ... augh!" She cried out. He searched her purse and found it, pouring it into his hands.
"Ok. Now what?" He asked.
"I need you to feel for the baby's head. I think it's low. I feel it." She said. "I think I've been in labor for a couple of days. Back labor. And that isn't a good sign." She said. Sebastian took a deep breath. She laid back on the car seat and opened her legs.
"Pearl. I, I don't know. I have no idea what I am doing." Sebastian said.
"Please." Pearl said.
He moved his hand between her legs and his eyes widened after he inserted his fingers.
"Pearl. I can feel his head. I think he's pushing down and about to bring his head out." He said, feeling the baby's head right at her entrance.
"Ok ok. I need you to push in deeper and feel if his face is up or down. Can you do that?" She asked.
He nodded. He again repeated the same process and felt the back of his head along the top. He was facing down.
"He's facing down. I can feel his little nose." Sebastian said.
"Ok. Sebastian. We are going to have to deliver this baby. It is coming and there isn't a way to stop it. Take my jacket and put hand sanitizer on the satin inside of it. And on the leather of the car seat." She instructed. The urge to push was over whelming. He needed to hurry. He did as she told him.
"Ok, Pearl. What now?" He asked.
"I'm going to push. I need you to help guide the baby out." She said. The pain was nearly unbearable and she was trying her best to remain calm.
"Are you sure? I don't think labors happen this fast. Maybe we are rushing it?" Sebastian said. She could tell he was terrified.
"I am sure. Are you ready?" She asked.
"Yes." He said, taking a deep breath and lifting her dress, then removing her panties. He looked down and could see the baby's head crowning.
"Oh my god." He said, looking back up at Pearl.
She closed her eyes and began to bear down. It felt better to finally push. She could feel his shoulders still in her pelvis and knew it was going to take some work.
He placed on hand on the baby's head and the other in Pearl's hand, squeezing it as she pushed.
"Auuuuuuuggghh!" She cried out, panting and catching her breath. It pained Sebastian to see her in so much pain.
"He moved a little. You're doing amazing, Pearl." Sebastian said.
"Gooooooooooooood dammit!" She cried as she pushed again. His shoulders were stuck. She could tell.
"Bash, I need your help. You have to help him come down. His shoulders. I need you to pull and move him, don't be afraid." She said. He nodded. Something in him was taking over and he felt in control now. He adjusted his hands and moved them inside of her, cupping the baby's head and reaching for his shoulders. "Okay, Pearl. Don't push for a second until I get my hands placed correctly." He said calmly. She nodded, happy he was taking charge.
"Ok, push now." He said. She pushed and he felt the baby turn slightly and move down just a little more. It was working.
"Sebastian!" Erik cried from across the street. He ran over to the car and looked in. "Oh my god! Pearl!" He shouted.
"It's ok, Erik. It's ok." She said. Sebastian gave Erik a look, letting him know he had it under control and for him to just support Pearl. Erik nodded, knowingly, and opened the side door, taking Pearl's head into his lap and her hand into his.
"Push Pearl." Sebastian said. Erik looked up at his cousin worriedly.
"Pearl, push my love. I'm here." He said. Pearl took a deep breath and pushed as hard as she could. The baby moved further down and his shoulders were clear of her pelvis now.
"Great job. Wonderful, Pearl. One more push now." Sebastian said. Pearl held her breath and pushed again. "Uuuuuuuugggghh" she grunted. And with that, they heard muffled cries as Sebastian pulled the baby free and instinctively sweeped his mouth for fluid, turning him over and patting his back. The cries became louder and he wrapped him in her jacket and handed him to Pearl.
"It's a boy. Your son, my lady." Sebastian said. He smiled at Erik. Pearl looked at Sebastian, and mouthed the words "thank you" to him. He nodded.
Erik kissed Pearl's head and sobbed. Just then, lights and sirens were heard barreling toward them.
