Chosen One

"Hmm… A system, huh? Wouldn't it be automated then?" Jimmy asked.

"Yes. Yes, it is." Santa replied.

"Then how the hell did you crept into my system?" Jimmy asked.

"Well, I had creative privileges. So, I used that to get in." Santa replied with a smile on his face.

"Please refrain from doing so anymore! Hell, just get off my system right now." Jimmy requested.

"Eh? But, why? After I gave you such an awesome gift!" Santa pouted like an anime girl, to which Jimmy cringed hard.

"Yea, you're not gonna make me happy by just one year's gift after neglecting me for so long. I'm yet to forgive you. And it's not like I'm the only one who received such a power from you!" Jimmy replied.

"Jimmy, I swear to God, you're the only one with the power of the system. Didn't you listen to me when I said this is the greatest gift that I ever gave to someone? You're the chosen one, my little Jimmy!" Santa spoke proudly.

"Who are you kidding me? Chosen one? I know that tactic. If you gave a mass produced product and told them that it was tailor made for them, they'd probably believe it, won't they? However, don't expect me to be that stupid! Sure, this system might be a unique one, but this is not the first time you're telling the chosen one line to someone, right?" Jimmy asked.

Santa hesitated to reply to that question. However, in the end, he gave up Jimmy's intense stare. "No…" He replied.

"So, how many chosen ones are there?" He asked.

"Ten… Like the ten commandments… Just the number. The powers aren't related to the commandments though. You are the tenth and the final one." Santa replied.

"So, I get the last thrown away pieces of the food, eh?" Jimmy scoffed.

"Well, I would like to think that the last one's the most special one, but if you think like that, I don't know what to say. In my mind though, you are the most special one, because your power is the only one I personally oversee." Santa spoke with a smile on his face.

"Wait, you got my letters recently, right? How long did you take to complete the system for me?" Jimmy wondered.

"Well, by recently, I meant like ten months ago, okay? So, yea… It's been eleven months since I started working on the system. However, it's kind of a work in progress." Santa replied.

"What do you mean it's a work in progress?" Jimmy had a lot to ask. Because whatever Santa told just brought up more questions in his head.

"Well… The system is done and it can function on its own now; like, it has a personal AI and stuff for you now. However, while doing the final checks yesterday, I realized that the tutorial for using the system wasn't added and it still had little bugs. You don't have to worry about it though. I'll fix the bugs and release a patch soon. And about the tutorial, I'll personally take you through the functions of each option and stuff." Santa explained.

"Hmm, cool. Before you do that, tell me something. You told me that I am the only one whose power is personally made by you, right? Then, who oversaw the other nine's powers?" Jimmy asked out of pure curiosity.

"Ah, God did that and he asked me to distribute those to the people. For the tenth, he actually picked someone else, but that's when I intervened and put forth your name. He looked into you and said that you don't deserve the powers, since you did bad stuff… However, I asked God to believe in me and promised him that I will only give you the powers once you showed potential. And you did show it yesterday and I gave you the powers." Santa explained.

"Damn, even God thinks I'm garbage, huh?" Jimmy sighed. He kinda agreed with God in this matter. He was truly garbage. Just doing one good thing wasn't gonna redeem all the shite that he did all this time. He kinda wanted to go back to being the original version of himself, who was real good, but his heart's corrupted now… or so he felt.

"Yea, he kinda did. But, you proved him wrong, right? I'm proud of you!" Santa smiled brightly.

"Well, had I not tried rescuing Piers there, I wouldn't have gained an awakening power?" Jimmy asked.

"Unfortunately, that would've been the case. Well, I would've still waited for you to show some spark though." Santa replied.

This explanation baffled him. He had seen worse people with awakenings. Why was he the only one who could've been left out? "Then why am I the only one under this criteria though? There are worse guys than me who have power and are not being judged like this. What about them?" Jimmy blurted out his thoughts because it seemed unfair.

"You really think God's the only one giving out power, don't you? However, Satan's working on it too. Okay, I'm gonna tell you something that the others in the ten commandments aren't aware of. In a few years, two portals are gonna open."

"Portals?"

"Yup, one's from Earth-7, where God has full control over. The beings on that planet are the ones that people usually call angels. And if the first one's God's planet, the next one's the Satan's- Earth-666. With that, this place is gonna be a battlefield where the good and evil's gonna fight. So God and Satan's been scouting people to join their army once the time for battle commences." Santa explained.

Jimmy thought for a while. "Wait, so what you mean is that if I had waited a bit longer, I could've possibly been approached by Satan and got a power in that way too, huh?" Although Santa did say that he might never have got an awakened power, he meant by the power from the good side. He could've still got the evil one, if what Santa said was true.

"Hey! Don't say that! Now that you got the power from the good side, you can't take that back, you know?" Santa cried.

"Then what about if I did bad things then? Like Lucifer got his powers stripped once he showed his bad side, right? So, what if I just went ballistic on doing evil deeds? You will have to strip the system off me, right? Then, just like Lucifer, I'd be a hot commodity in the hell market and I'd get a good power there as well!" Jimmy laughed like crazy. However, he was just kidding about it, though. Like, he doesn't have the assurance that Satan would accept him or not. If he had, he would've just done the bad deeds already. However, since the power he hoped for finally came to his hand, he didn't want to do something stupid like that and end up losing it as well.

However, Santa took Jimmy's joke too seriously. "Screw you then." He muttered and then turned his screen off, which revealed the normal system screen. When he heaved in a breath of relief that Santa's finally off his screen and was about to check out the functions of his system on his own, he was met with a system alert.

[System alert:

(Reward- 100 Stat points) are being allotted to Karma.

Karma +100]

"What the hell is this? Karma? Wait, my reward was used, but I didn't… Did he?" Before Jimmy could even finish his sentence, he was met with another alert.

[System alert:

100,000 Stat points borrowed.]

"What the! 100,000? That's some crazy amount." Yet again, before he could comprehend the events happening before him, another alert came by.

[System alert:

(Borrowed amount- 100,000 Stat points) are being allotted to Karma.

Karma +100,100

Warning: Until the Stat points are fully paid back, the player is not allowed to level up.]

"Karma again? What is he thinking? And what's up with my level up criteria. I have to pay back 100,000 stat points to level up? Level up is based on XP, isn't it? Then why the hell are you considering stat points! Like, successfully completing a mission gave me 100 points, I believe. Does that mean… Freaking hell! A thousand successful missions!" Jimmy was baffled with this development.

"Whew!" Suddenly, the screen that made his mouth go wide changed back to the big screen where Santa stood smiling.

"You bastard! What the hell did you?" Jimmy screamed.

Santa smiled brighter than before. "Oh, the thing you just saw? That's nothing big. It's something that's gonna ensure that you're gonna have to stay on this side of the fence for a very long time." Santa replied.

"Explain this first. What's Stat points. What's Karma?" Jimmy asked.

"Well, Stat points are the points that could be allotted to several things like Strength, Intelligence, even Mana, just like in a game. And Karma is one such thing too. Except, it's that the more Karma you have, the less evil you can do. Like a person with 100 Karma can't do pick pocketing and stuff." Santa replied.

"And you just…"

"Yup! I allocated all those points to your Karma stat!" Santa screamed in joy.
