CHAPTER 113: We Are Such Pitiful Beings

There was bitterness in his tone as he spoke of this.

He just closed his eyes no longer wanting to see this human.

Of all the seven of them, the other six have long been done with that ceremony.

But he was not spared, the previous host was the same, he was made to under go the ceremony.

How many times more must he experience this pain?

"ARE YOU STUPID?!?!"

His eyes snapped open when her shout seemed to be closer.

He was taken aback for she was actually right in front of his face, particularly right in front of his eyes.

Her hands were on her waist, ready to berate a child.

"You have emotions right?" she asked him angrily.

"You have your own feelings, so why are you acting like you don't have?"

She even pointed at him with her anger showing on her face.

"If you don't want something then resist, have you tried resisting? Or you simply accepted it as fate? Because you have done that then you would have more regrets. That you didn't try to be yourself even just for a bit."

She knew what she was saying was quite absurd on their current situation.

But seeing Vermilion Bird simply accepting like it was the most normal thing to do, she just couldn't stand it.

"What kind of thinking for a human is that?" he couldn't help but ask, his eyes showing confusion at this sudden outburst.

"Human here, human there, beast here, beast there. I don't care about any of that. As long as you have consciousness, as long as you have emotions. Then you should have a say in a decision that might affect you," she kept going.

But then after venting out, she ended up sighing making Vermilion Bird even more confused at her.

"Though this time around we were really left with no choice, I resisted though. That way I know I did my best not to cause both of us any pain. The reason why I can face you right now. I'm sorry I couldn't do any better."

'A human apologizing to me?' Vermilion Bird thought.

"We were left with the choice she made and made to suffer because of that choice, she really is selfish, isn't she?"

"Indeed."

He was shock to hear himself reply.

Saphira sighed again before placing her hand on him, this time on his forehead.

"This may not be enough to completely end your suffering but I know this is enough to help aleviate it even for a bit and help in your recovery," she said, this time calmer.

"Why are you giving me everything? How are you going to fight now?" he asked.

"As compared to you, I can regain everything much easily. I can just fight back in every way I can. I have trained so I can move better than the past. Even with weakened physical mana and magical mana, I am still better than when I was younger."

"Why have you come to this decision?" he asked still.

Actually this giving of mana is normal but most of the time it was the inborn and accompanying beast who was doing it.

For Vermilion Bird, this is the first time he was hearing, seeing and experiencing it.

"I already told you, this is also a kind of compensation. At the same time, we can only push forward. With what we have witnessed, surely we will be facing a crueler battle in the future."

After giving every last drop, she sat down and leaned on his wings before closing her eyes.

"We are such pitiful beings."

(End Of Flashback)

"You all have noticed it I presume, that her strength shouldn't have been at that level if we are to consider her talent," Vermilion Bird noted after he told them that story.

They agreed, they had been wondering back then but brushed it off as her being weaker due to the lost of her inborn beast.

"Anyway both of us have decided that I will be returning her all that mana once we are out of this place. Since you are all here anyway, we can do it right here."

Though the beasts are easily accepting this, her team was once again shock.

So that strength was more like two thirds of her real strength?

Saphira had restarted her training in accumulating magical and physical mana?

They were so proud of their achievement but once again, against her they were nothing.

"Why don't you go and call for the heads, this place needs to be cleaned up," Vermilion Bird suggested to Qirin.

"The heads?" Qirin was bewildered.

"My matter is only known by them, as of this moment we really don't wish for the rest of the Empire to know of my existence," Vermilion Bird answered.

"Indeed the heads would know of this," Nixon whispered to Ridge.

"All of you will then help the heads in cleaning up. This place..."

Vermilion Bird looked outside the windown.

"Is a factory."

They felt like they are no longer shock to hear this for the beasts around this place are too much for a simple island.

"White Tiger," Vermilion Bird called.

"Yes?"

"Watch over your brat. Even if I hate him, Saphira does not. Don't make him go running around on his own and causing more trouble."

White Tiger wanted to cry, he couldn't really do that, could he? There was such a thing as restriction you know.

But he couldn't speak of this and could only agree.

"Since you all already know that she was the one who had to kill her sister, isn't it time for you to stop playing like children?" he finally faced her friends and started berating them.

They could feel it with Qirin, without him really opening his mouth.

But why is it that when it comes to Vermilion Bird they could feel the presence of a monarch as well?

"This is no time for you to be focusing on emotions more than reality. Face it properly."

Then his eyes went to Drake, who didn't raise his head.

"You have all heard this a lot of times but if you don't know the whole story, stop presuming that you are someone who are higher than the rest. Who has the right instead of the other."

After that, he turned to Saphira.

"Roc, Black Tortoise, let's begin."
