Chapter 49

"I do not have a very important background and am not even associated with a school currently. Are you sure that you even want to talk to someone like me?" Timothy asked the youth in order to probe how he would react to his humbleness. IN truth, this youth may have confused him greatly, but since he was so overbearing and spoke his mind, Timothy felt that he may be a worthy friend to make.

"Interesting, an above average cultivator who also knows how to act humble towards others. It is too bad really, usually even the noble clans within the city try to massage my ego and so it is hard to find anyone genuine. How would you like to accompany me to the Maroon Auction House? I might be willing to make you my underling and even get you into a decent school!" the youth offered before continuing.

"My name is George, and as you could tell if you did not know already, I am the direct descendant of the number one clan in the city. My goal is to become the next Patriarch so I will need reliable people under me."

Timothy could not help but to laugh a little on the inside. It was a good thing that Jacob was not with him, because with them being total opposites from one another, it would either cause peace or chaos between the groups. "I would be willing to head over to the Maroon Auction House with you to take part in the auction, but unfortunately, I must deny your request to become an underling of yours." he told George while trying to look lost for words.

"You know what? When I ask that question, usually I even receive gifts. You are a strange one, you have no real background from the looks of it, but your pride is stronger than the biggest boulder in this world. Fine, I will take you with me to the Maroon Auction House, and maybe by the end of it I will offer you my friendship. You better not make a fool out of me, there are just some things that I am unable to forgive!" George shouted with a big smile on his face.

"And here I thought that you would have a harder time finding someone to network with. It looks like George has quite a unique reputation, but he is also important enough to his clan for him to speak about trying to become their next Patriarch. Only those with the brightest of backgrounds and greatest of strength would be considered for such a position which means he has some capabilities." Master Shi told Timothy mentally.

From his master's words, Timothy felt like he had hit the jackpot and was now in a very good position to be seen by others even if he was only on George's side in public. However, he also felt that he still had extremely bad luck up to this point, so why would it change now of all times? There had to be some strange catch, and the more he thought about it, the higher the guard he put up!

"Here you go George, now can you leave before you start stinking up the place?" Brett playfully told him as he handed over an ordinary storage ring. "We just had this building cleaned yesterday, and I would hate for my boss to have to call for another round of deep cleaning."

"Yeah whatever you say Brett!" George replied while winking at Timothy. "Thank you for your hard work, when I get a chance, I will send someone over to deliver a little something to further compensate you."

"Hey Timothy, you heard him. So if an assassin were to kill me in my sleep tonight, there is a witness." Brett responded playfully again before seeing the group off. Timothy felt that from their interaction, that Brett and George somehow knew each other for quite a while and were rather close. George was obviously very carefree, so he might have found it easier to get along with others who did not show any ill intent towards him or those he knew.

"These are my two uncles by the way. Neither one of them like to interact with others and only are around to keep me out of trouble. However, it is not like I would think of saving them some face on behalf of others. You should not worry while you are with me, although I am the one they are here to protect, as my guest, it is not like they would allow you to die either!" George told Timothy to introduce the two adults to him.

After the introductions, George led the way with Timothy at his side. "There is a good chance that he may be either the first or second in line successor of his clan. If it comes to it, you will either be forced to side with him against his rivals and enemies that are here in the city and around the Bark Kingdom, or you will have to make him your rival or enemy. Choose carefully but remember to at least gauge his enemies first to see who you feel would make better allies and friends." Master Sei explained mentally to Timothy.

However, Timothy had already decided to try to make George a friend of his as long as he did not treat him poorly or treated him as if they were not equals. Making a personal guess, if George had any enemies, it might actually be their fault since he seemed to be too outspoken to be evil and tricky.

Since birds of a feather flock together, it could only mean that someone who he could not trust would be likely to have issues with George. And so he would of course be paying close attention to these things, because something was bound to happen at the Maroon Auction House if even George made it a priority to attend!
