Camp Assault II

Tightening his grip on the hatchet, Roy began to get an uncomfortable feeling.

'Is this the effect of the skill? It feels so awkward to hold it like I normally do.'

Changing his grip, the uncomfortable feeling left him. Looking at his hand and the way it was gripping his hatchet, Roy could feel this was a much more optimal grip for the length of the handle, as well as the weight of the head.

'Amazing, it's almost instinctual now...' Roy proclaimed, stunned at the effects of skills.

Eyes slanted, Roy attempted to see the situation in the camp better. A dim campfire, mostly charcoal now, emitting a faint glow to the surroundings. The orange tint hitting a few of the goblins within its range.

Roy crept slowly towards them, he raised his palm towards Solus informing her to wait.

Now looming over one of the goblins Roy's blood-lust was palpable. He quickly brought down his hatchet before putting his hand over the mouth of his victim to muffle the gargled screams.

'Perfect, I finally received a combat job! I have no idea how long it'll take to max out [Apprentice Tamer], but I'll get there eventually. The more options I have when I do, the better.' Roy thought to himself as he used his new skill to its fullest.

He felt an instinctual need to step a certain way, and shift his weight in just the right way to maximize his stealth. Using this new feeling, he approached the other two goblins.

'Awesome! Almost makes this bloody task worth it.' Roy looked down at the dead bodies, eyes filled with disgust. 'I wonder why I don't feel remorse for these creatures. Is it because I know what they do to others? Or is it because I unknowingly treat them like I would an insect; simply stepping on them for my own convenience...' Filled with thoughts on why he became seemingly so cold blooded, Solus had come up next to him and licked his face.

"Ah!"

'Thanks Solus, you broke me out of my dark thoughts... I'm simply doing this because I have to. In order to survive.' Patting Solus' head as she looked at him with caring eyes, Roy thought of how they had grown so close in a single day.

'Maybe it's because you remind me of home, but I'm glad I met you.' Smiling, Roy pat her head once more before turning around and resuming his work.

'Ha! Finally reached my goal of 10 Strength. Guess I'll see if I can resist the river water tomorrow.' Roy said, thinking about finally getting to dip his body in water again.

After his short break, Roy stood up and began to move the corpses on top of the embers. He stoked the fire and the bodies soon caught fire.

As he watched the once animated corpse slowly burn away in the makeshift burial fire, he thought some prayers for them. 'May you live better in your next life.'

Walking away, the darkness slowly encompassed him as he made his way to pick up his gear and pet.

...

*Yawn*

The next morning, Roy woke up with a big yawn as he stretched out. He carefully removed Inbellis from his belly button, and nudged Solus awake. Reaching for his food basket, he soon realized that it was empty.

'Oh yeah, we finished it off yesterday...' Giving a slight shrug, Roy got up and geared up. Leaving the hole they used to sleep last night, they made their way down to the river.

'Moment of truth!' Roy exclaimed in his head as he dipped his body into the river where the current was its most mild.

"BUHIHIHI"

'SUCCESS!' Roy was elated, finally he could wash his filthy body within the river without worry.

*Whimper*

Turning around at the noise, Roy noticed that Solus was whimpering on the riverside.

Giving a light smile, Roy waved his hand and said, "Come, Solus!"

Grabbing his extended hand, Solus got into the water. She was shaking and obviously afraid, but Roy knew she needed to be able to swim.

"LIike thIiSs" Roy forced out, still having some troubles with his vocalization.

After a few minutes of repeating the same action, Solus began to attempt it as well, she started to get the hang of it after half an hour and actually started to have fun.

Roy also was enjoying himself in the fresh, cool water, thinking that it was nice to get a break every once in a while.
