The Bell was Rung

Cole let out a long sigh after his father left the room.

It was only him left in the large bedroom. He actually preferred it this way. Cole's current situation was quite shocking and he was still trying to process what exactly had just happened to him.

'I, Cain Davis, died. That much I know for sure. I also know that I spent time in something I will call the void, found a speck of light, and crashed into it. Now I am in someone called Coldens' body. Judging purely based on the scenery around me I'm assuming that the world I am in now is sometime in the middle ages, maybe a little more than that but approximately then.'

It was like thinking you knew what was on the exam only to realize that everything had changed, but you still had to complete the exam.

All of this thinking and trying to comprehend what was going on was messing with Cole's brain. He could feel a headache coming on.

'Ill figure everything out later, for now, I'm going to sleep. God these sheets are so comfortable…'

Just like that, Cole had completed his first day in this new world.

A week had passed after Cain touched the speck. He was getting pretty used to being Colden and had begun to figure out more about the world he was now in. Spoiler, it's not Earth.

The people of this world called it Naleoran. On Naleoran there are 4 continents and all are separated by a large sea, making trade between the 4 continents difficult. However, Cole found that the continent he was on was called Bleanavion.

The continent of Bleanavion was ruled by a single empire called the Bleanvin Empire. The current emperor is named Emperor Rollant II and he has 3 sons. However, this was all Cole could find pertaining to the world.

Since each continent was separated by a large sea no one had much information about other empires, kingdoms, and governments. Forget about trade, the other continents practically knew nothing about each other. All Cole could find out about the other continents was they existed. Nothing else was said in the books he found inside the Count's library, which wasn't huge to begin with.

In the week that Cole was on Naleoran he had also found one more huge discovery.

The existence of Magic and Mana.

Apparently everyone in this world was born connected to one of the four basic elements. Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. However, each element has sub elements that some people are born closer to. For example, his mom was born connected to the Water element but wasn't that great at using water magic. Instead, she excelled at using healing magic, which is a sub element of Water. However most people aren't very proficient at magic, even nobles aren't good at it.

Only the Mages are proficient at using Magic. They are a group that works under the royal family and they control the flow of information about magic to the public. If you really want to learn magic seriously you would have to give up your noble status and study at the Mage's tower in the capital. Cole was not going to that any time soon. After all, his body was merely 5 years old. Not to mention the limited freedom the Mages had. They were forced to always be at the beck and call of the royal family. This didn't really suit Colden's taste.

But the point was that Magic existed in this world! Something people from Earth could only fantasize about. These feelings gave Cole's a burst of motivation, a spark had been ignited in his freezing heart.

Although Cole wanted to know what element he was connected to, he wouldn't know what element until his coming of age ceremony.

All noble children have one, similar to a debut into society. It occurred when the child turned 15 years of age and the capital would host a coming of age ceremony each year.

However, while Cole was thinking, he was suddenly interrupted by a voice.

"Cole! Are you in there?"

Cole lifted his head at the sound of the woman's voice. He loved to hear this voice. Her angelic tone echoed throughout the small library and made her sound like an envoy of God. With expectation in his eyes Cole got up, dusted himself off, and put the book about Magic back on the shelf.

"I'm in section 2B!"

He put a bit of force into his voice to make it echo back to his mom, hoping she could hear and understand him. With a bit of pep in his step, Cain wove between the bookshelves before arriving in front of his mom.

She was as beautiful as always. Her long ink black hair was flowing down her shoulders before landing softly at her bottom. Today she was wearing a light blue day dress and a few pearl accessories, completing the oceanic themed look.

As he looked up at her, he noticed she wasn't smiling. Instead she was wearing a blank expression, almost melancholic. But when she looked towards Cole and saw his little figure.

arrive at her feet she couldn't help but grin. His head of blue black hair was sheen and shiny as the sunset's light shone upon it.

Cole couldn't bring himself to care about how he looked. In his past life he knew he had dirty blonde hair and light brown eyes with a few freckles here and there. He wasn't ugly but neither was he super handsome, it was pleasing to look at his face but nothing that made him stand out.

He didn't know exactly what he looked like in his second life as Cole. He never really took the time to look at himself so all he knew was that he had blue-black hair and flawless, porcelain white skin. Besides, he was too busy learning about the world around him and figuring out his position in all of it.

"Why did you call mom? Did something bad happen to you?"

"No my little snowdrop. Nothing bad has happened to me, thanks for asking. I just wanted to come and let you know that dinner is going to be prepared soon so you should go and wash up."

"Of course, can you send Mariam and William to my room?"

"Sure," his mom turned around to face the doorway where a couple of maids stood in attendance, "One of you go and send William and Mariam to Colden's room, make sure they bring buckets for his bath."

The eldest maidservant nodded once before turning and leaving.

Mariam was his mom's maid that she gave to Cole, essentially Mariam was a nanny to Cole. She reported his every action back to Adelaide. Spy was perhaps a better word, but it sounded mean and ominous to Cole so he preferred to use nanny.

William, on the other hand, is Cole's personal butler.

He and Colden had apparently been in conflict before Cain arrived, though he didn't know exactly what caused this rift between master and servant. However, it was large enough that the butler had simply left Colden's wellbeing to the maids. Completely and utterly abandoning Colden. This had significantly lowered Colden's likeability with the other servants of the house, so most looked at him with cold and indifferent eyes.

'I definitely won't stand for this kind of treatment. I couldn't care less what they think of me, but I will not have my status lowered because of it. After all, what is a king if he doesn't have subjects to rule over?'

Cole was irritated by the treatment the servants gave him, nothing at all like how the son of a Count should be treated. One day, he vowed, he would fix it. Permanently.

Cole gave his mom one last light smile before he headed out of the library and back to his light blue room. The silk draped over the bed was a mess, clearly the maids hadn't come to his room and cleaned it every other hour like they were supposed to. The last time it was cleaned was about a week ago when the Count was supposed to visit Cole after he woke up from his poisoning. After that, the maids went back to forgetting about Cole and his needs.

With a slight frown on his ice cold face, Cole stepped over to the bell that sat next to the bed and tugged on the rope. He had tugged so hard on the rope that his knuckles turned white, sending a fuzzy feeling throughout his hands. As he pulled, the sound of the bell's shrill echo lingered in the room, giving it an eerie aura.
