Chapter 9

There was no way I could let Laura leave like that. She was my best friend after all.

"Laura, wait!" I called after her, catching her before she made it to her car.

"What do you want, Karma?" She snaps.

"Look, I went out with a coworker for shopping and lunch. That's all." I admit.

Laura stood silently for a while before finally speaking. "You could have just told me that. I would've understood."

I mentally rolled my eyes. "No, you wouldn't have. You never understand anything." I reply.

Laura looked surprised. "I don't understand? I understand that you can't afford to shop in those stores." Laura cocked her head to the side.

"Excuse me?" I questioned her, squinting my eyes.

"Nothing, never mind." Laura says.

Now, I was upset. "You don't understand anything. You have no idea what I've been going through. I break my back for you and it's not reciprocated at all." I tell her.

Laura was silent.
