Management Tutorial

As i continue to stare at the floating ball of light in front of me it begins talking once again shocking me out of my stupor before I inspect the strange creature.

(Dawn Level 1 Wisp)

Wisps are spiritual beings that vary from mischievous to peace loving depending on their source. Due to their bodies being completely made out of spiritual essence, wisps have little to no combat ability but make fantastic information keepers and popular pets.

"Contacting Heads of Settlement complete! Your designated choices have been told to come to this area for a tutorial on how the stone works and all of their responsibilities! Please wait patiently for their arrival!" The wisp exclaims in excitement as it floats around quickly in small circles before flying back over to me.

"Is master not happy with me? You seem awfully quiet should I not talk or be seen? I know that some settlement leaders prefer us helpers to be more of the internal helpers." Says the wisp slowly in an almost sullen manner that reminds me of a kid that's been told they've done something wrong.

"No no your fine! Dawn you said right? Don't worry I just didn't expect you to appear at all. Nobody mentioned helpers so I didn't expect you to just pop out of nowhere." I say laughing anxiously as I rub the back of my head. As the wisp hears this it glows brightly and sighs in relief before floating over and landing on my shoulder.

Before I can say anything else I hear footsteps incoming and see the shadows of several people before the forms of Jeff, Mog, Slab and his hellhound Jawbone appear with looks of confusion on their faces.

"So...Sorry about the unexpected wisps guys. I didn't expect to get anything but a kind of management screen from the stone but we also got these little guys to helps out. So this is Dawn my management helper. She explained kind of that all your wisps are here to help you with tasks and stuff but I'll let her explain before we get into questions ok?" I ask before Slab raises his hand with a nervous cackle.

As I nod towards the nervous gnoll he steps forward with his hand constantly stroking Jawbones head. Finally after a few minutes he calms down and looks up at the rest of us.

"Why am I here? I'm just a hunter that wasn't even part of this group before the undead clearing. Hell I was an enemy of everybody here a couple of days ago and I'm nothing more than a sub par hunter with barely any skills." Slab stammers out in frustration and confusion as everybody around him nod or have looks of agreement between them.

"Master may I answer this question for you? Since Huntmaster Slab has his own wisp I can actually see his status and from your own thoughts I know exactly why you chose him." Dawn says to everyone's shock before I nod my head in curiosity wondering how well the wisp will be able to convey my thoughts.

"Yay! So Huntmaster Slab after you received your wisp it did its job and scanned your stats and information. If you were unqualified for the position it would have actually alerted us and you would not be here so worry not you are able to do this job. As for Master Noortains thoughts it should be known that settlement companions can telepathically link with their designated partners so that they can communicate information between the two without misunderstanding. Your wisp has alerted me that you think your actual class is that of a common hunter which would explain why you have this ridiculous notion that you are unworthy. Master Noortain owns a skill that allows him to gain information on the things he finds. After abducting you he had the plan to integrate you into our settlement as a way to prove that everyone is both welcome and that their past deeds do not reflect on their ability to live here. But after inspecting you he realized you possess a rare and very helpful class that's not seen often. You are not a hunter but a beastmaster, a class that allows you to excel at not just hunting beasts but also connecting with them on a spiritual and emotional level. This means that like your friend Jawbone there some beasts you encounter will actually become tamed by you and become your lifelong partners unless you become abusive or hostile to them. So as you can see your worries are unfounded and you are above qualified to be the Huntmaster of this settlement until we advance enough to create a taming facility." Dawn says in a gentle yet authoritative tone while my eyes widen in absolute astonishment before I laugh once and walk over to Slabs shaking form.

"Everything Dawn said is 100% true. Yes we were enemies a few days ago but you've proven that you aren't our enemy any longer. You fought with us and risked both yourself and your partner in helping your captors against an enemy that could have spelt all our ends so in my eyes your one of us. And yes you actually are a Beastmaster and Jawbone is listed under your information as one of your tamed companions. So in my mind who better to hunt our food and materials than the man who can tame wild beasts and bring those that are useful to our side." I say as i put my hands on both of Slab's shoulders while looking him in the eye, smiling happily as I see small tears streaking through his fur as he nods his head once and wipes his eyes.

"Then I promise I won't let you down boss. I'll be the best damned Beastmaster this shit filled world has ever seen and bring glory and honor to your name!" Slab says with conviction before a prompt appears in front of me.

{Congratulations You have received a new vassal! The Beastmaster Slab has sworn to fight beside your and let both of your names be known throughout the heavens! All experience Slab receives you will receive 5% of.}

"I look forward to working with you Huntmaster." I say with a smile before I try thinking to Dawn about starting the meeting.

"Ok so now I will explain how the settlement stone works and what your titles mean. As a companion birthed from the stone I can keep track of all its needs and its information. the wisps that you have received are actually minor versions of myself so although they cannot talk they do have the ability to let you view your own tasks as well as our current situation and needs. The leaders role is as stated they will lead this settlement and make choices on what to build and where, our defenses, and where we progress from. The Head Builder Fey's jobs will be finding out which resources we need and then either procuring them himself or creating a team to do so for him. He is also in charge of building all the settlements structures and defenses as well as upgrading current ones. If the leader needs a certain building made it will appear in your que so check it every once in awhile. Also to note due to the level of the settlement there are only a certain amount of options we may build until we level up but we may obtain more by either obtaining blueprints or having the builder use his wisp to scan buildings, adding their blueprints to his collection." Dawn states before noticing that fey has raised one of his tentacles. As I nod for him to speak he stands up and bows once before asking his questions.

"So from my understanding I'm in charge of both resource grinding as well as building management. If we have no buildings in que does that mean I am free to experiment on my own until one comes in? And does this mean that my knowledge of blueprints that I've already mastered no longer matter or that I just cannot make them at the moment? And what do you mean by scanning a building with my wisp?" He asks calmly in a well mannered fashion before nodding that he is done and waiting for his answers.

"You are correct in your job duties and if we have no buildings in que your more than welcome to either experiment on new designs or explore for more or higher quality resources. Your own knowledge of blueprints and buildings are currently locked unless they are of a level that matches the settlement. For example if a settlement such as ours were to have a high quality forge it would be wasteful due to our lack of both smiths and ores to smelt hence the stone locks buildings until our settlement is able to keep that structure without a deficit. As for the scan each of your wisps is equipped with a scanning spell. If you as a builder were to come across a building that you think could be beneficial to us you could have the wisp scan the structure and as long as its in livable condition it's blueprint will be added to your knowledge base so that you can both learn it and see what's required to build it. Note though that you can only fully scan buildings matching the settlements level. Anything higher you'll only get the buildings name and a few details about its uses and will have to rescan it again once the settlement levels up to obtain its blueprint." Dawn explains as Fey nods his head thoughtfully before thanking the wisp and sitting back down.

"Next is our Lead farmer! Master Mog has been chosen due to his knowledge of both agriculture and nature magic. Your job is to grow the settlements food sources as well as to tend to our fields and crops. You can also experiment with new seeds and crossbreeding produce once our settlements level rises!" Dawn says to Mog as he nods in understanding. Dawn glows happily before moving in front of Slab who stands a bit straighter as he looks to me before relaxing his posture.

"Our Huntmaster Slabs duties will include hunting down beasts in the surrounding area for their meat, fur, bones, and other usable resources. Huntmasters are also in charge of scouting out the surrounding area and making note of dangerous creatures, potential enemies/allies, and possible sites to get resources if they stumble upon them. Once our settlement progresses you will also be able to train other hunters as well as capture wild beasts to bring in and tame for domestic or combat uses as well as possible companionship if you wish to do so." Dawn says which Slab smiles in excitement as he pounds his fist against his chest once before sitting back down next to Jawbone.

"Finally we come to our Guard Captain Jeff! Master honestly thinks quite highly of both you and your skillset and believes you will be the best choice in keeping the peace. Your job is very simple but also difficult. You are in charge of both the defenses of our settlement in case of attack if our leader is absent as well as upholding the laws within the settlement. Unless the leader establishes punishments then it is up to you to decide the fate of those who break the rules. You may also recruit our settlements citizens into your Guard and if they accept you have the option to both train and promote their ranks." Dawn says at which Jeff nods seriously before Dawn laughs happily before flying around in circles again before planting herself back on my shoulder.

"Ok then that's the end of our meeting and tutorial! I have added tasks to each of your ques to help get us started on the right track and to help you get used to the new system. Since we don't have a lot of inhabitants right now our cost of living is pretty low but we need more people in order to level up our settlement. Also Jeff our master wishes for you to train him in combat since he feels useless as a leader! Have fun everyone and feel free to ask if you have questions!" Dawn says before disappearing into my shoulder as I grimace at the sadistic smile coming from Jeff.
