Resignation

The next morning, Bryan arrived at the station early. Not many officers were there at the moment so he casually went to his desk and put his head down to think for a while.

It was safe to say that the serial murder case really messed up with his mind. It was the most pathetic case he ever worked on. He felt really bad and somehow he didn't feel that this case was a success.

He released a heavy sigh and lifted his face. Maria had already been moved to a correctional facility as she waited for her trial to be concluded.

He could still remember the vacant look in her eyes as she was led into the car with her hands cuffed. She looked lifeless and broken. It would have been better if she cried and struggled and become emotionally traumatized but this sort of reaction actually made Bryan's heart tighten a bit.
