Around the evening, William returned home feeling a little bit satisfied with himself and everything for the first time in a long time. Usually he would feel out of place and unwanted and this led to him feeling unsatisfied with himself and everything around him.

Maybe it was the knowledge that the serial killer had been arrested that gave him this feeling or just the knowledge that he had contributed something—no matter how small—to the ultimate demise of the plague that haunted the city.

On the one hand he was happy that the killer won't be able to bother him or his mother ever again. He had lived in fear for a long time knowing that if he ever spilled the killer's secrets then his mother would end up being targeted.

It was torturing for him to sit and watch and do nothing especially when the killer always had a way of pulling him into the mess.
