Chapter Fourteen

Dimitri brushed on the fogged mirror with his shaky hand, only for his swipe to be immediately fogged back over. Groaning, he brushed his hair, hoping for some sort of clarity as to how it would look. Flipping his hair back as he usually does, he gave a quivering smirk, only for it to relapse back into a frown. It may be the last time he’ll have his hair back, and to his misfortune, he may wear bangs again as he did in his middle school days.

He overheard some chattering outside and scrambled for his old clothes. He wished that his clothes were clean, but there was no chance to be picky: not in a state like this. Flipping his hair back again, he rushed outside to the main floor into the lab.

“I’m back, sorry,” He apologized.

Sabrina smiled and waved at him from a stool. "Welcome back Dimitri," she said in a light tone.

Succubina gave a cold glare, “You’re doing well,” She welcomed him, then giving her attention to Blanche, “Blanche, I want you to listen to this also. I will explain everything.”

“Okay?” Dimitri replied. Any sort of clarification on this mess would be fantastic. Ever since his platonic coffee date, he was shaken. Since yesterday he was still picking off the glass out of his arms. “Why don’t you start as to why you’ve been gone for the past two days? You’ve never done that.”

“As I told you, I knew that the world would be in chaos yesterday, so I prepared for it.” She started, “I’m sorry I startled you with the glass, I just… wanted to get your attention.”

“So you’re the dove!” Blanche exclaimed.

Dimitri saw Sabrina perk up upon hearing about the dove. "Were you trying to warn us at school?" she asked, "that dove was you, right?"

“Wait-- dove? That doesn’t make sense.” Dimitri countered.

“I know it doesn’t but nothing should make sense anymore,” She replied, leaning against a table, “My father died, and my sister has gone ballistic, causing those angels to blindly kill anyone in their sight.”

Blanche perked up, “Those things are called angels?” With that revelation, she decided to jot down things on her chalkboard.

“Why do you know this? And am I the only one who questions this ‘dove’ nonsense?” Dimitri asked around the room.

“Dimitri, Sabrina…” She sat in a corner and scanned everyone in the room, “Blanche. Have you heard of the story of ‘The Calamity Sisters?’”

Sabrina spoke up, "Who are the calamity sisters?"

“So no one knows of the so-called fable?” She asked, “Very well. I will give you a brief telling. The Calamity Sisters are known as sister deities under the God Terminal, along with a brother named Zander. The two sisters were cooperative, until one day they began to disagree with each other over their creations. One wanted to destroy the earth due to her mistake, and one wanted to protect it. The disagreement became a raging war, causing the people on earth to plead to a god who didn’t care. The war came to an end once the protector was banished into what is known as the sinner’s realm.”

“You mean like--” Dimitri interrupted, “Hell?”

“Absolutely," she replied, "It’s just like hell, and as a desperate attempt, the defeated sister made a barrier, creating a limit on what the destroyer could kill. That barrier is broken now, and we can’t fix it-- none of us can.”

“Well that explains the panorama of chaos,” Dimitri commented, “but why do you know so much about this? And why do you think that isn’t a fable?”

“...I’m Ametsu, one of the Calamity Sisters,” Succubina confessed.

Dimitri shook his head. This is a joke. “Okay, okay… nice prank, but can we be serious?” He snarked.

Sabrina, who had been quiet the whole time, spoke up suddenly. "I think she's telling the truth," she said softly, "I don't know why, but I really believe what she's telling us."

“You can’t be serious, Sabrina?” Dimitri hissed, turning back to the stoic Blanche. “You too?”

“I’ve known about this for a while now,” Blanche admitted, “I just wanted to make sure I had all the details correct.”

“I’ve known you since we were kids, Succubina, and now you’re telling me you’re some kind of genocidal god?” He tensed up, caving in, “What else have you hid from me?” he mumbled, gripping onto his pants, “You here to kill us?”

“If I wanted to kill you all, I would have done so already,” Ametsu replied, “And you’re confusing me with the other one.”

Dimitri grunted, “Prove it.”

“Prove it?”

“Prove that you’re a god, Succubina,” Dimitri demanded, “Or I’m leaving this bullshit!”

“Dede!” Blanche scolded, “Stop!”

Sabrina stood up, "Don't be stupid Dimitri, endangering your own life as a threat to someone else is terrible." Dimitri could see the disbelief in her eyes. The bad kind that tells you you've messed up.

He noticed the mess he made, and went for an ultimatum. If he was going to lose some friends, then there would be no reason to give empty threats. “Fuck this!” he shouted, grabbing some knives from the lab, “I’m out of here! If I am going to die, I want to die where I’m comfortable!” Rushing out of the lab, he refused to even look anyone in the eye.

“Dimitri Isaac Kenneth! Stop!” Blanche demanded, rushing over to catch him, only to rush past a few beakers, creating a mess of dangerous chemicals on the floor. She stepped over it, to shut the door behind it, “Get back here!”

Ignoring Blanche’s wishes, he rushed over, then tripped into someone else, sending himself to the ground. With that moment, he snapped out of his angered trance, “I’m sorry.”

Glancing up, he couldn't believe what he saw for a moment. Before him stood an intimidating man. Tall and burly, he had a dark beard and welding goggles on with a large open brown trench coat. Under the trenchcoat he could see small pistons and gears moving over plates of metal; all giving off steam and smoke. He spoke with a gruff voice, "I'm here to talk to the sister of the bitch god who took my daughter."

“I-- hmm.” Dimitri mumbled, only to have a sinister idea spark, “What did she wear?”

The stranger raised an eyebrow. "Which one?”

“Well I know someone who wears white, is that her?” He asked.

The man grinned, which was unsettling to see amongst all of the smoke and+) steam. "She's the one who will help me get my Lucy back. The murderer wore black."

“Oh… I know you! You’re Lucelia’s guardian!” Dimitri exclaimed, “Wait… So…” I guess she was innocent after all. What have I done? Dimitri shied away, “I don’t kn--”

“It’s nice to know that my sister has some close friends.”
