Chapter 8: Remember the Past, Forget Your Future Part 8

“Why are you trying?” Poppy's words hit me hard as she asked.

“...What?” I asked back.

“Why are you even trying anymore?” She continued, “There’s been so much death...and so much betrayal..so why?”

I didn’t have an immediate response. My reasoning was revenge at first, but it’s grown into something I wasn;’t able to explain to myself until Poppy had asked me.

But I tried my best to answer her anyway.

“Well…” I started, letting my brain find the right words, “If I don’t try and stop this from continuing, or to try and fight it at least...wouldn’t that mean that I’m letting everyone’s who’s passed away so far die in vain?”

“...” My words seemed to affect Poppy, as she closed her eyes and shuddered a bit. In response, I grabbed her blanket and put it over her.

“I know you can still fight, and I know you want to…” I told her, putting my hand on her shoulder, “So please, I want you to be able to fight with me.”
