Have you ever experienced this feeling where you know that a particular day will be the day when you will go through a life changing event?
It's crazy you know how we humans live our life with very little adventure, an absolute monotonous life and then suddenly one day, one moment in that one day things change. Whether for better or for worse remains to be seen but this phenomenon happens that's for sure.
When I woke up on the morning of the third day of my trip to Korea did I know that such a moment was going to grace my life?
No, I didn't even have the slightest bit of knowledge that it was going to be the day that was going to change the course of my entire life.
Looking back at that day I think at times if given a chance would I change anything?
Give up on any events of that day? Change the decisions I made?
No.
I don't have to think about the answer... ever.
It was unfortunate really, I couldn't get an oppa on the website.
But not letting anything dampen my mood I made my way out and started searching for a local tour guide. So what if he or she won't be from the oppa website I just needed someone to take me around right?
It took me an hour but I managed to find this small tourist shop that had a tour guide available immediately. I made arrangements to meet up with my guide on the Hongdae main street.
Now I wasn't just meeting with my tour guide in Hongdae. No, me and now everyone reading my story is going to meet the first ever Hero of my story.
Not every hero comes in and sweeps the heroine off of her feet and sings romantic songs with her in gardens and on boats and in cars and... you get the gist. Not every hero has to be the romantic interest of the female lead. Some heroes are beyond that and he was beyond that.
My hero. My savior.
The person who saved me in ways I didn't even know I could be saved, the man who had the power and courage to set me free and then help me take all of my first shaky steps that came with first time freedom, the man who gave me a new life, a family and the man who I was willing to risk my everything selflessly for.
My hero, my Guide, Park Baek-Hyeon.
I recognised him amidst the crowd almost immediately because of his red t-shirt with a large BTS logo on it just the way he'd described on the phone call. He was handsome, I had to give him that. Not super tall but taller than my 5'3", brown hair and a very well defined face and body.
Approaching him I introduced myself, "Hey there I'm Radhika, the one you're to give a tour for today, you're Baek-Hyeon right?"
I asked as an added precaution in case this wasn't my tour guide, fortunately for me he was the one.
"Yes hello I'm the one and only and I'm going to make sure this is best trip of your life" He said and nodded his head enthusiastically.
Cute!
This is how I'd describe my Baek, CUTE. His English was a bit choppy but he understood what I said and I understood what he said and that was more than enough.
He really was thorough in his job, took me to all the good tourist spots and took multiple pictures of me everywhere we went without a fuss. We talked a lot too, how my life is back home, why I chose South Korea, my family, my hobbies. He was a really good listener and I really liked that.
When it came to knowing him I was now even more in awe of this man that was accompanying me for the day.
I initiated by politely asking him, "So Baek what do you do other than taking care of clueless tourists?"
He laughed at first then spoke, "Well Rads I used to live Daegu before moving Seoul after high school almost 4 years ago and worked this job ever since"
"So tourism is the field you want to take and make it big in?" I asked now genuinely curious.
"No I came here with my high school sweetheart, she does college but I didn't want to so I work this job"
not waiting for me to say something he continued,
"she's very pretty you know, she does dance to become dancer with idols and artists. I'm so proud and so lucky she chose me. She lives with me and we're together since 5 years now."
The wide smile on his face was so sweet and so pure. This was the first time I was hearing a man that was not a book character, talking so passionately about his woman and for once I wanted that too and his girlfriend, I hadn't met the girl even once, I didn't even know her name but I already loved her. I loved how happy she made Baek just by the mention of her name.
I'd never seen this kind of love at least in my life and surrounding. The fact that I may never have something like this back home hit hard and hit me worse than it ever had but I immediately put my feelings at bay not wanting to ruin this beautiful moment.
'Everyone should have their very own Baek that's for sure.' I thought as we moved on and proceeded to our next destination.
