Han river.
Pictures do no justice to the actual beauty of this place. It's not just beautiful looks wise it's soulfully beautiful. Calm, serene, mystical. That's how I can best describe the Han river and it's surroundings.
Fortunately due to budget reasons I had planned my trip here during the off tourism season, so it was pretty quiet and there were hardly any people. Waking up bright and early I had rented a bicycle for two hours to go around and enjoy the area and well, I was secretly hoping that I'd encounter a kpop idol just maybe you know... maybe on a morning jog or bicycle ride like me.
I know, I know, too many and too high expectations but hey! Can you blame a girl for wanting to bump into an idol and having the ultimate 'Y/N life'?
Well... I encountered no idols but a view worth the early morning wake up call. I had just stopped my bicycle to enjoy the light breeze and morning sun rays when I began to day dream , beautiful serene dreams about all of the amazing...
You guessed it right, food.
Food that I was going to devour from the stands right after I returned the bicycle.
Yes food hmm, I love food it's the best, yes, absolutely.
Busy with my foodgasm thoughts I didn't see it coming, a 6 foot tall muscular body bumping into me, and then, the said body decided to ignore me and go on its way jogging like it didn't just pull a road roller act on me.
'Well excuse me this is not acceptable and I'm not going to let it slide', with that thought I turned around and screeched with all my might,
"Oye you 6ft road roller, white shirt gray pants, besharam badtameez, aise dhakka maar diya aur sorry bhi nahi, gadhe tum pareshan kar diya mujhe!!!" And right before I decided to continue my rant I had this sudden realisation that he most certainly didn't understand a single word and I had just wasted my breath unnecessarily.
But did that dampen my enthusiasm?
Nope!
I started again this time making sure to speak in English,
"You, you shameless idiot! Couldn't have stopped and uttered an apology, what if I had fallen down and hurt myself huh? How can you just walk away haa? No, no I mean how can you just jog away , you better be apologizing to me mister or .."
But before I could go on and on and on this deep baritone and really appealing voice was heard saying just two words "I'm Sorry".
He had heard me and turned around.
I momentarily forgot all about my rant and focused on the guy. He was tall and he was really well built. I could tell. I couldn't see his face that well because of the oversized mask that was covering it but his eyes shone and he looked kind of amused.
"Yeah.. Hmm..... Okay yes. Sorry. Okay...... Uhh huh." some garbled noises had escaped out from my mouth.
I may have stuttered my next words that accepted his apology but honestly speaking that voice had impacted me in ways it shouldn't have, whereas he just chuckled, turned around and continued with his jog.
'Wow! What just happened? My stomach, yes it has to be it my stomach is to be blamed for this ridiculous behavior of mine, I need to go now, return and the bike and fill it before I make anymore fool of myself.' I thought to myself after my embarrassing stutter filled encounter.
The rest of the day I spent on the picnic field near the river reading to my hearts content and making plans for the next day. I knew I was going to do this the minute I had made plans of visiting Korea.
I was going to RENT AN OPPA!
Now this concept was introduced in the tourism market very recently but I had read about it in an article. The article had been enough for me to make my mind up for renting this Oppa, who was essentially just a local tour guide.
To be honest I could've just went on with my trip with a guide but then thought better of it, because a local would always know more, have better spots to show me around and sadly but truly at that point there was no assurance in my life regarding anymore vacations.
So I just wanted to savor everything, experience everything and that's exactly what I did.
