Search and Refusal

With Ron driving, both he and his boss headed to Bell Bridge, where they suspected Lily should be. Honestly, the secretary was surprised about how his boss reacted, nevertheless, it was a pleasant surprise that he very much welcomed.

"So… boss, did you change your mind? If she's still alive, are you going to marry her?"

Ron excitedly asked Chan Hu, who was lazily resting his chin on his hand and looking at the luminous Orchid City.

"Shut up and drive."

"I chose the perfect candidate, right? She's very beautiful… hehehe."

Ron only stopped talking when Chan Hu coldly glared at him, though his proud yet annoying expression remained plastered on his young face.

He couldn't fathom what his boss was thinking of but the fact that he wanted to meet Lily again is a good sign, more or less.

One must know that Chan Hu's interest in women is lower than zero, so, seeing him go out of his way to meet one, moreso this late night, is something that no one, not even his parents, expect.

Bell Bridge is the biggest in Orchid City, it connects the Eastern Residential part of the city to its commercial central part, and those two are separated by a big river.

It took Ron a little over ten minute to arrive at the bridge and that's only because he kept speeding like an insane person. The two men looked at both sides of the bridge, trying to locate the missing Lily but, eventually, they found nothing and no one.

If she jumped off, there should have been a ruckus but the place was peaceful, which means that Lily didn't come back here.

"Boss, maybe she went to kill herself somewhere else."

With an unreadable expression, Chan Hu stared at the passing cars for a brief period before saying,

"Drive me back. This was a waste of time."

The man sighed and closed his eyes, planning to rest. His secretary, Ron, also sighed and pressed on the pedals, his excitement dying down.

Three minutes later, the car came to an abrupt stop, which startled Chan Hu awake. With a truly chilling expression, he turned to face Ron.

The young bespectacled secretary was pointed at the side of the road while saying, "Boss! It's her! Her!"

Chan Hu followed Ron's gaze and saw a lonely figure dragging some luggage. Her long red hair was tied into a ponytail, her back slightly slumped forward, indicating that she's in a bad mood.

Ron didn't dare to call out for her immediately, he glanced at Chan Hu and asked,

"What do we do?"

"... call her."

After the incident with Chan hu, Lily did go back to the bridge and contemplate suicide but, in the end, she decided not to do it, at least not now.

She dragged her luggage and aimlessly walked forward, wondering where she'll sleep today. The amount of money she had left cannot even buy her food, much less afford a hotel room.

Lost in thought, Lily walked for sometime but was stopped by Ron, who she thought she was imagining, at first.

The secretary pulled the luggage from her hand, a wide smile on his face.

"Miss Lily!"

"???"

"My boss wants to meet you."

He pointed at the car, parked not far from them. There, she saw a handsome man looking back at her.

"Meet me? Didn't he kick me out earlier?"

"That… was a misunderstanding."

"What misunderstanding? I'm not a dog who comes to you whenever you are beckon it. Hmpf!"

Lily snorted and snatched back her luggage then continued walking, though she didn't forget to glare at Chan Hu for a couple of seconds, to indicate her stance.

While it's true that marrying him will bring countless benefits, however, just because they have status and wealth doesn't mean they can treat her like trash and choose to talk to her whenever they feel like it.

Seeing the woman angrily leave after sparing a glance, Chan Hu frowned and glared at his secretary, who helplessly shrugged his shoulders.

With his head, Chan Hu motioned at the leaving Lily, to which Ron shook his head and sighed, refusing to budge, for some reason.

Getting infuriated, Chan Hu got out of the car and, with big strides, walked to Lily, stopping right in front of her.

"Oh! If it isn't the great Chan Hu. Can you get out of my way?"

Hearing her talk to him like that, his lips twitched but he didn't lash out at her. He met her blazing gaze and calmly said,

"Let's talk."

"Are you deaf or what? I said I don't want to talk. Shoo Shoo!"

Lily waved her hand at him as if she was getting rid of a fly then circled around him, unwilling to even listen or look at him.

'I gave you a chance but you kicked me out! Don't think that I'll let myself be played so obediently!'
