Battle techniques

The location of the last stage was different from the previous three, the next morning the kids were led to the Martial training grounds.

The Martial training grounds of the Bright Jade City covered a large expanse, with all sorts of equipments covering different sections, Zhan Wei and Xia Yunzi stood with the rest of the participants in a relatively empty section with only  three monoliths in front of them.

The three monoliths seemed to with be covered with all sorts of carvings but a dark black light stooped the kids from discerning what was on it.

At their backs was newly built platform with a shade on top where Lu Zhenchuan and the Elders of the Mystic Heaven Sect watched them from.

After a few minutes, a large group of guards walked up to the kids and divided to all corners and among them a tall slender female guard dressed in slender silver battle armour walked to the fronts of the three monoliths.

In the Bright Jade City all guards wore black armours only the Commanders of the various districts and the City lord were different with the Commanders all wearing a silver armour and the City lord a golden armour, obviously the female guard in front of them was a Commander.

The female Commander had long hair and beautiful face, with bright red lips and a sexy figure she charmed the hot blooded male youths among the crowd, yet the whole controlled themselves to avoid giving any hint of lust in fear.

Standing in front, her body and black saber  both exuded a cold deathly aura giving the youths the feeling that if they dared to be audacious they would be sliced up.

Without giving any form of introduction she pointed to the three monoliths covered in black light she said, " There are three battle techniques carved on the monoliths, you have until noon to learn anyone of your choice, if you need a weapon in learning you may ask any of the guards around ".

After that she formed several hand seals and the three monoliths shook as the black light covering them vanished, then she sat cross-legged in a corner with her eyes closed.

Zhan Wei looked at the sky, it was in the early hours of the morning when they all gathered in the training pavilion, from then till they were told what to do it had only been a few minutes.

Judging from the time, they only had a few hours to noon, the fourth stage was most likely a test of the level of comprehension of the participants.

The youths moved about randomly as they attempted to check the three battle techniques .

With the little time they had, everyone could only try finding the most suitable battle techniques to learn, after memorizing the mnemonics and qi circulation route of the battle techniques of their choice they went back and sat cross-legged as they attempted to cultivate the battle techniques.

Battle techniques were very important in increasing the overall fighting prowess of cultivators, If the spirit qi was the essence of Qi cultivators cultivation then battle techniques were techniques cultivators used to erupt with the might of their Cultivation.

The importance of battle techniques could not be underestimated, in the same level those with stronger battle techniques had an advantage over their opponents.

Zhan Wei moved around as his hands traced every piece of line and diagram of the battle techniques on the monoliths.

Born in a War Clan Zhan Wei had an extremely high innate desire for battle, to him it wasn't really about losing or winning or killing, it was just battle.

Even in the Zhan Clan few could match Zhan Wei's enthusiasm for battle, it was just that the way of cultivation in this world was Qi cultivation even if there were other forms of cultivation or body cultivators they were very rare and all of the battle techniques Zhan Wei had ever come in contact with required spirit qi and back then he had crippled meridians and could not cultivate.

But born with an open mind sea and with his Primordial God soul active from birth, Zhan Wei was different far from his peers, his thought process and level of thinking was extremely active and far advanced than his peers.

Even with considering the strength of his Primordial Chaos God soul, just the fact he had two souls made his perception and comprehension far above others.

And although he couldn't learn battle techniques, he had learnt all he could, back then in the Zhan Clan apart from cultivating the Primordial Chaos God Scripture he spent most of his time in the Martial Pavilion reading all sorts of weapon foundational arts.

Compared to real battle techniques, foundational arts were simply the basic, yet Zhan Wei had ingrained the basics of every weapon he saw into his mind.

In terms of battle techniques he was a complete greenhorn but in terms of the basics and foundation of weapons Zhan Wei didn't think anyone was better than him, after all even those of the older  generation spent little time on foundational arts before moving to any battle techniques they could find.

Yet Zhan Wei didn't have that luxury, he only had the basics still he mastered them, every swing, thrust, slash, sweep and movement he had engrained them all into his mind becoming part of his instinct.

Even when he was young in the Zhan Clan, Zhan Wei had never been beaten by his peers, it wasn't just because of his Primordial Chaos God Physique, he never really exposed the full strength of his body, only using what he felt could pass off as " Innate divine strength", it was simply because in terms of battle instinct and capabilities, non of his peers could equal him, non could use their strengths and weapon as well as him.

To Zhan Wei apart from his Primordial Chaos God Physique, if he was asked what talent or something he was good at, Zhan Wei would say "Battle !".

Zhan Wei was a battle maniac, it was just that his lust for battle was affected by his natural indifference to most things so few things could excite him and ignite his lust for battle so he didn't really come of as one.

While Zhan Wei was gazing at the stone monoliths, some of the youths were meditating while the rest were already practicing the battle techniques they were trying to learn, at first Zhan Wei's act of just looking and touching the three monoliths was a bit conspicuous but with the short time frame and after recalling his lackluster performance in the previous stages no one paid him attention.

With his face and physique Zhan Wei wasn't the kind to be forgotten and the display of his " Origin Void Constitution" in the second round already made him well know as someone untalented, so the youths didn't really pay much attention to his strange action, as for the guards however Zhan Wei chose to spend his time was non of their business.

Xia Yunzi had been meditating on the mnemonics of the " Extreme light sword ", of the three battle techniques the Extreme light sword was a sword technique that focus on extreme speed, after mastering it one could make numerous sword lights and hide their sword qi within, the number of swords lights and sword qi one could make depended on the level of mastery, after meditating Xia Yunzi was about to take her sword and try practicing when she saw Zhan Wei just looking at the monoliths, everyone was already learning one why was Zhan Wei still staring at the monoliths, worried Xia Yunzi walked towards him.

Reaching his side Xia Yunzi touched his shoulder and was about to ask why he was still standing in front of the monoliths when Zhan Wei turned towards her and she froze.

As someone who had spent a lot of time with him, Xia Yunzi was very clear about Zhan Wei's character, Zhan Wei was indifferent about most things, even during the second stage when everyone looked at him like he was trash he still maintained a straight face,  but now !....

The Zhan Wei in front of her, his black eyes shone with bright light, Xia Yunzi was baffled, what made him excited, looking at the direction he was looking at before was it the battle techniques engraved on the stone monoliths, Xia Yunzi's face twitched, this Zhan Wei was a weirdo, seeing nothing was wrong with him she turned and was about to go back when Zhan Wei held her back.

Zhan Wei was still entranced when he felt someone tap his shoulder, turning back he smiled when he saw it was Xia Yunzi.

she was probably worried when she saw him standing that she came to check, seeing she was about to go he held her back and asked out of curiosity, " What battle technique are you learning ?".

Xia Yunzi didn't think much to his question and answered, " Extreme light sword".

Zhan Wei smiled again at her response and said, " interesting! ", before turning back to stare at the three monoliths again.

Xia Yunzi shook her head and went to practice.

Zhan Wei looked at the three battle techniques in front of him, the " Extreme light Sword" which pursued speed and deception, hiding sharp sword qi in between harmless sword lights, the " Jade Breaking fist " which focused on vibrating the qi in one's meridians, which erupted after entering the enemy causing destruction from within, while the last one the " life severing Saber " had only one thing in mind, " killing", it was cold, merciless and powerful, cultivating the Life severing Saber would make one develope a bit of a fiendish killing aura, Zhan Wei felt that female Commander probably cultivated this saber technique based on her aura.
