Chapter 23

I guess I can give you the whole story and just a heads up, my mom was with someone else ("should have been" father) before my "should not have been" father. I know, confusing. Anyway, it all started when my mom was in high school, she was pretty much the smartest in her class, she was a nerd basically, not saying it in a bad way, nerds are pretty cool once you get to know them. It wasn't until her junior year where she met my "should have been" father, as she got to her mid 20s, they married and lived a good life, until one night, my mom got kidnapped by my "should not have been" father, she was at gunpoint and was forced to divorce and marry him instead. She didn't like him, but if she even tried to run away, she would have been beaten, or worse, so she kept her mouth shut.

Not even into the first year of being together, he started to rape her and if she tried to get away, he would threaten her with a huge hunting knife to the point where she would have no choice but to accept it. She was pregnant with me at the age of 29, she didn't know if it would have been a good idea to tell him, but she did anyway and he was acting like he cared about her and the baby, months have passed by, she went to the hospital and gave birth to me while he paid the hospital bill. He still kept up the act until I learned to walk, that was when he started to steal from her and blame it on me, he started to hoard the food and only gave us 1 small loaf of bread to share while he had dinner for a king. He also started drinking and it never made us even a little safer, she would try to sneak out and get food for us, mainly me. A year passed and she had had enough of his poor decisions that she got me, some money(his money included), the hunting knife, and ran away at around midnight when he was asleep.

We ran to the nearest police station and pressed charges on him for attempted abuse, stealing, having and taking illegal drugs(yes, he did that), and soon later, resisting arrest and abusing an officer and was sent to jail where he later died, or so I thought. I knew that asking my mom about her past would lead to her ignoring me, but I had some sort of suspicion that my "should not have been" father didn't die in jail and that he was still alive. I started to ask her questions about what else she packed, why she decided to make those choices, and what she wanted to do with her life before any of that happened. I then went to ask her what his name was, or his last name at least, she kept saying that she didn't know how I would have reacted, but she told me anyway, and I was in shock. She said that after he was released, he tried to take me in the middle of the night and if it wasn't for the security cameras around the house that she turned on at night that scared him off, I would have been in trouble, his last name, was Cleaver.
