Total loss

Jason ran to the phone left by the hanger so soldiers may call their families. Artillery could be heard in the background as Jason typed in the only phone number he could remember. A dial tone rang to life as the phone worked it was from the Middle East to Kentucky.

"Come on mom pick up." Jason said as he rocked side to side.

The speaker that laid against his ear crackled to life with the voice of an older lady.

"H-hello who is this?" She asked.

"It's me, mom, it's Jason." Jason said with tears forming in his eyes.

"Jason, oh my god!" Jason could hear both relief and pain in her voice.

On her end of the line, an air raid siren roared to life in the background.

"Mom, what is that?" Jason asked his voice cracking.

"I have to go honey the siren is going off." She said as the phone clicked silent.

Jason dropped his head against the phone as his heart begins to race.

"Ja-son right?" A voice with a heavy accent came from behind him.

He turned around to see the Arabic girl that had saved his life.

"Learning English I see." Jason said with a smirk.

She gave him an excited nod with a smile.

"I-I, have b-been learning." It was broken but Jason understood.

She smiled again before giving Jason a hug.

"Thank you." She whispered in his ear before going to the lunch hall.

Overhead beautiful new silver F-35 jets flew. They had been loaded with new viral dispersion bombs. They are cylinders covered with vents that open at a set to open at one hundred and fifty feet. When they open it covers a city in a viral fog. It was some new weapon for a new war. A loudspeaker came to life with a whine.

"We are now evacuating the base. All troops report to airborne transports." The voice was jagged as its sound fought through the static of the speaker.

Jason ran to the airstrip followed right on his heels by the Arabic girl. He calls her girl but he doesn't understand why. As they boarded the plane as the bombs could be heard exploding in the distance.

"Put on your goddamn gas masks!" A commander yelled.

It was like everything was moving in slow motion as the gas cloud moved in. To Jason, the clouds felt like they had started eating the world alive. The clouds look hungry to him as they got closer to him. The plane ignited its propellers you could see the fog twist and dance in the turbulence.

"Don't breath this shit in!" The commander yelled with his voice muffled by his mask.

"Yes sir!" The whole plane yelled in unison.

It was a voice so powerful that it shook me to my core. We flew the plane to halo altitude and as you look out the window you couldn't see the ground.

"This is insane to see." Jason said as he viewed the power of the new bombs.

"J-Jason my body feels strange." The Arabic girl said sitting back in her seat.

"You're looking a bit green my friend." Jason said pulling out a bottle of motion sickness medicine.

Jason pulled out one small blue pill and broke it in half. He handed it to the Arabic girl catching her face turning a green color. It was a face he once had himself and still does sometimes.

"Here take this." Jason said handing her half of the pill and he took the other half.

Jason kept an eye on her as the Arabic girl slowly drift off to sleep. He handed her his jacket to use as a pillow. He gave her a quick run-through on how to use it as well as possible to make it comfortable.

"That sleep will help you, my friend." Jason said as he got comfortable himself.

"Everyone get some sleep, we will be in this plane till the fog dies down some." The commander said but this time he was calmer now.

Slowly Jason's vision began to slowly fade as he drifted to sleep. A voice began to echo in his head. It was a voice that he really wanted to forget.

"Why do you have to go fight? Why does this goddamn war matter to you? You are not responsible for what happens over there! You have a family Jason! You have a kid to take care of!" Gunshots began to echo causing Jason to jerk awake in his sleep.

"Ja-son did you sleep well?" The Arabic girl looked at him curiously.

Jason had to shake his head from still being groggy.

"Yes, just a few nightmares but nothing major." Jason said as he rested his head in his hands.

The Arabic girl reached over and rubbed Jason on his back. Jason stole a look at her and could see her cheeks becoming flustered the more she looked at him. Before he could hide his face away she turned away embarrassed with her getting seen.

"Why are you hiding yourself girl?" Jason asked with a smile on his face.

"You have a wife?" She said a slight giggle holding onto her words.

"She left me a long time ago my friend." Jason couldn't help but smile.

"S-so you alone?" The Arabic girl couldn't hide the excitement behind her question. Jason nodded to her with a smirk along his left side.

The speaker that sat just outside the cabin sparked to life.

"We will be coming to land soon. Put your masks back on and get ready to enter the building right away." The speaker died with a hiss.

One by one everyone put their masks back on. The plane began to shake a small amount upon descent due to the fog making the air thicker. The tires screamed as the plane landed. Everyone jerked a small amount as the green light came on.

"Everyone off my fucking plane now GO, GO, GO!" The commander yelled.

Everyone sprinted to the building. The lucky ones made it but some of us slipped and cracked their masks on the ground. Jason didn't leave that to chance with the Arabic girl he carried her. He doesn't know what the feeling is he has for her. He hasn't felt that way since he met his wife. As soon as they got to the building they had to go through a decontamination door.

"We are safe in here my friend." Jason said looking at her.

Just before the door opened she grabbed him by the shirt and snuck in the most passionate kiss he had ever been given.

"I have been waiting to do that." She said before she patted his shirt and stepped back.
