Out Of The Frying Pan and Into The Fire

We have been in the east defending our positions for two months now, but now plans have changed. We are pushing into the Far East of Old Asia and The Russian Wastes. These are places where the old world died after the mass revolutions broke out. It was some of the areas where rebuilding could never happen.

They sit in chaos now and we are taking advantage of it to build ourselves up. Ships landed and picked troops up before lifting off again. The makeshift air strip was chaotic and lively. Men yelled commands and questions to each other as everyone is sorted out. Some of them looked grim as they loaded dead and injured onto ships headed back to home. A part of me wanted to head onto one of those either dead or injured. I had come close to both of those paths several times without any luck.

As I got into the airship the ramp closed behind me and we took off. So many men had been packed into the airship that some of us had to stand. I wondered if this was how all of the ships had been filled. The government must be trying to get as many soldiers into the east as they could. The only good part about our current situation is so far we haven't hit any turbulence.

Looking out the window I could see that the fog was finally gone. Everything was as clear as everyday before we bombed everything with the virus. Which was a move that was looked down upon by every person that lived in Africa. I was in awe of the beauty that was left over even after all of the fighting. This world may have been better off with the virus dropping half the population of the world right away.

Although, that was all thrown away as anti-aircraft fire started hitting around us. AA guns sent bullets ripping through our airships. I saw men in our very own ship getting ripped apart as blood covered the rest of us who barely survived. I took one of the shots through my leg dropping me on top of one of the dead men.

Landing on a dead person saved me from being killed but barely as the ship went into a steep dive. We are heading to the ground fast and hard. Unless someone could pull us up out of the crash we will die. I accept that we will die as I look around to see that most of if not everyone back here is dead.

Alarms started going off as a voice screamed about altitude. That was before it started screaming about danger. Yes, we are in danger. Danger that I don't think we can get out of. I think this is what is left for us. More bullets started to fly through the ship barely missing me with fire starting around me filling the cargo area with smoke.

Through the windows I could see the mountains coming fast. We can't pull away from them. Not anymore.
