Returning to her cell by the armored men, Colette couldn't help but feel concerned about what had transpired. She did not know who that man was or why he looked at her with so much interest. Her heart only seemed to beat so much faster, the more she thought about him. Just who was he?, and why did he say that to her?
"You're quite fascinating."
It was a compliment, or so she had thought. Just his appearance to her seemed so appealing yet there was a strong mysterious vibe that hugged his entire being. The way he held himself, was another thing that caught her attention. He was cool and aloof, but just his appearance alone was enough for her to determine that he was very different from any other human being. Why did he want to speak to her so strongly?
Remembering earlier from what he said made her think even more, for he spoke of sensing the sickness within her. Did he actually sense that she was sick?, or was that his excuse to call to her?
That she didn't know.
Jumping lightly at the sternest of voices that she has ever heard in her life, she turned around quickly to the man who was apparently talking to her while she was in a bit of a daze due to her thoughts. "Did you hear me!?!"
"I-I'm sorry I didn't hear you...!", replied Colette who was looking at the man a little shaken up. He still had his gun in his hands, and that was enough of a reason for her to feel uncomfortable.
"Whatever happens, do not speak to that "man" again!", was the curt response from the armored guard. "No matter what he says!"
Colette shook slightly from the fierceness of his voice, she was even scared to simply swallow any saliva that was in her mouth. "Y-Yes I understand!", she managed to say her reply though it was merely a whimper more than anything.
As she stood there looking at him while hugging herself, did the guard leave in a rather annoyed manner. It was not long either until the heavy door closed behind him, thus leaving her alone in her cell. Silently she walked to the bed within the cell and sat down on it, while softly pulling her knees close to her so she could hug them close to her chest.
Her mind buzzed like crazy as she sat there in silence now, and she soon was thinking about the many things that had happened to her today. Colette did not know where her and her mother were taken to. The more she tried to guess where they were, the more it hurt her head. "I hope you are okay mom...", softly sobbed Colette as she hugged her knees tighter to herself. Tears seeped from her now closed eyes, as she prayed within her being that her mother was alright.
She didn't cry for long though, for she heard a feminine voice come from outside of the closed door. "Excuse me, miss?"
Colette was a little scared as she stood up and walked toward the door slowly, "Y-Yes?"
"I would like to talk to you, if that will be okay?", was the response from the other side of the door.
"Sure..?", was all Colette could say as she softly turned around to sit back down on the bed. As she did so did the door open, showing a blonde lady who was dressed up rather professionally in a doctors suit. Her appearance spooked Colette due to her believing something happened to her mother, for she assumed the worst happened.
"Is my mom alright!?!", panicked Colette a little bit as she took a light hold of the lady's sleeve.
"Yes, yes she is fine!", soothed the lady who was a little taken back by her reaction at first before finally piecing it together. "Please calm down, she is just fine."
Heaving a sigh of relief, Colette softly wiped the tears from her face as she spoke softly. "I'm so sorry! I just was so worried!"
As she looked at the lady, she saw her nod with a smile for she understood while she sat beside her. Colette looked her over a bit more before her eyes caught sight of a name tag, "Dr. Alfisi". She smiled a bit feeling a bit better that there was a doctor here with her, who she could actually talk to and not be afraid of.
"My name is Dr. Cade, Alfisi. You may call me by Dr. Cade if you so choose?", professionally spoke Dr.Cade who looked at Colette with a smile. "I am here to check on you, to make sure you are alright."
Colette gave her a smile in return to her own, "Nice to meet you, I'm Colette."
When Dr.Cade spoke on checking her did she feel a little funny, after all she felt fine. Despite the light pain that still lingered in her head, when she first woke up in the cell. "I'm fine! Just a small pain in my head and that is about it?"
Silently she watched Dr.Cade write something down on her clipboard rather actively. She was so intense in writing, that nothing seemed to distract her all that much. Colette couldn't help but watch her while also glancing at the paper on the clipboard. Dr. Cade had such exquisite handwriting, which captured Colette's gaze for quite sometime. Once Dr. Cade finished writing did she look back up and professionally smiled. "Do you have any health issues?"
Colette felt a light chill go down her spine, for just mentioning that horrible illness made her feel uncomfortable. "I honestly don't know what to say really? It really doesn't have a name? I have seen so many others have it with doctors talking about it but..?"
Dr. Cade was writing on her clipboard again while saying, "Just tell me the symptoms."
"Well, at first really bad chills? Kind of like you are freezing in sub zero temperatures? Then fevers and bad pneumonia occur days after?", as Colette talked about this illness, the mere images of her family would flash before her very eyes.
The sounds of pain and fear, and the sadness that came from those who were sick, begging for help by the doctors who were trying everything in their power to help them. To little avail.
"Excuse me, Colette?", asked Dr. Cade.
As if snapping back to reality, Colette looked at the doctor sharply with wide watery eyes. "H-Huh?"
Dr. Cade was quick to write down something on her clipboard, while Colette shakes her head while trying to recover. "I'm so sorry about that...", softly apologized Colette as she rubs her face.
"It seems like you have a form of PTSD.", replied Dr.Cade.
Blinking in shock to the news, Colette looked at her rather puzzled. "I do...?"
Dr. Cade nodded as she looked at her silently with a bit of a serious look on her face. "You were telling me the symptoms, then all of a sudden you froze up. It was an extreme kind of froze I have never seen before, it was so bad that you went pale and almost stopped breathing."
"I did that!", exclaimed a really concerned Colette. She looked down now with a troubled expression, while fiddling her thumbs together silently. She didn't expect to react the way she did, furthermore she didn't even recall it all that much for it was all a blur.
Dr. Cade could see that Colette was shaken up by what she had done. She looked at her clipboard before removing one sheet of blank paper from it. This action gained Colette's attention, for she looked back up in curiosity. Though she blinked in surprise when Dr. Cade handed her a blank sheet of paper, along with a pen.
"If you could when you feel better, write down the symptoms? But please take your time in doing so, and if you feel like another episode is coming then please let me know immediately.", sternly spoke Dr. Cade. "If you do stop breathing, then that is very alarming!"
Colette softly took the paper and pen, while looking at the doctor very concerned and rightfully so, scared. "Okay..."
Dr. Cade softly stood up while looking at Colette, "I will be back tomorrow to check on you. So please try to get rest if you can?"
Nodding to the doctor, Colette gave her a small smile which was soon returned by the doctor who nodded and made her way to the door which opened as if knowing she was making her way out. Colette blinked hearing Dr. Cade talking to a guard which was outside of her cell after the door closed. This made her feel really odd, for why would she need guards.
There was no way that she would be getting out of such a strong looking door, not to mention that she was basically harmless. They didn't need guns, unless there was something going on in the place that she was in now. She felt so lost as well as scared, for she didn't know what they would be doing to her tomorrow. Dr. Cade didn't really scare her, but the guards did.
Earlier she was escorted out for a test, not that she knew what kind of test that it was. If it wasn't for that strange man in the white mask, she would of been taken to some place else entirely. Colette didn't know to thank that man or not, cause after she talked to him did they take her back to her cell. That man was so strange, for he was dressed up like some kind of doctor. Thinking about it more, did she remember the black plague back long ago. "That was what he looked like, a plague doctor!", was the answer that she was looking for from her brain.
If he was from back long ago, then how was he still alive?
Colette answered one question and was confused by another not long after. As she sat there thinking, she couldn't help but come up with theories about how he was still alive. Though most of her ideas made little to no sense. Still oddly enough it helped keep her mind off of things that were scary. It didn't even take that long for her to not be scared anymore, and since she was no longer scared was she able to lay down in bed and rest.
****
It was a few hours later when Colette opened her eyes again, for the images in her dream really fazed her more than she would like to have admitted. She had dreamt about that horrible illness again, and was more or less tormented by all that she was seeing in her dream. Her eyes were watery while her body shook, due to the horrible sights which were in her dream.
She closed her eyes softly and tried to think of something else. Anything was far better than her dreams right now, so the quicker she could think of something else, the better off she would be.
Glancing at the piece of paper and the pen which was given to her, did she decide to write on it. Perhaps if she wrote down everything of that illness, then maybe it would help in getting rid of her dreams. It was better than nothing at this point, for she doubted that she could go back to sleep. As she wrote on the paper, did she also take her time in doing so. Colette was of course unaware of what time it was, so she didn't care how long it would take her to write everything down.
Besides, her head was all over the place at the moment so anything that could help was a comforting thing no matter how little.
When she finished writing was when she heard voices outside of her door. It sounded like the guards had come back. Just the thought of the guards made her feel very unhappy. After all she hated to be yelled at, and treated poorly. The only reason why that was, is because she didn't even do anything wrong. She was innocent or so she had thought, so there was no reason for them to treat her so badly.
The way they acted and treated her, was like she was a criminal of some kind. That was why the guards made her feel so scared, for there was no telling what they would do to her if she didn't do anything fast enough.
Jumping a bit to the door now opening, Colette was expecting a loud voice to follow suit. She was also quick to look down, for the guns still made her feel uneasy. It was not everyday that she saw guns, she knew that some people had guns but to actually see them being used towards her was just so unsettling.
A tray of food was placed down beside her which made her glance over toward it. Since she was still sitting on bed, she expected them to put the tray of food down on the floor in a demeaning manner. The fact they placed it down beside her on the bed, it made her feel even more uncomfortable. She was just waiting to be yelled at.
Colette slowly picked up the tray of food while keeping her head down, and as she did so did a stern voice made her flinch a bit. "Hurry up and eat!"
"Yes sir.", was the only thing that she could say though she didn't really feel that hungry right now. Even so, she would eat as much as she could in order to keep her strength up.
"After you're done, we will escort you somewhere.", spoke the guard curtly who was standing in the doorway with his rifle in his hand. The way he was standing, made it clear that he was serious. Just one wrong move and he might snap, and just seeing that made Colette fearful.
Colette didn't even dare to say anything as she ate silently, the only sound from her was her breathing while moving her fork to pick food up to her mouth. After she had finished eating, she stood up while the guard picked up her food tray and hand it to another guard who was ready to take it back.
All of this was so strange to her, course she hasn't been there all that long. Just how long were they going to keep her there?
"Let's go.", firmly spoke the guard as he began walking.
Colette obediently followed him, while behind her was another guard who was also armed with a rifle. As they walked, her eyes were silently looking all over. This place was very clean as far as she could tell, there was even other people who were dressed up professionally as they walked about. She honestly didn't even know what to think about this place, but it kind of reminded her of a secret base. The chances of that though were hard to say, for she was just guessing.
As they walked further down the hall, was she quick to remember where she was for that cell that held the strange man came into her sight. Her eyes were immediately drawn to the cell again, though she tried to keep her cool. Though she looked calm, her heart raced like never before.
Colette was quick to pick up on the man who was dressed like a plague doctor, even quick to pick up on his porcelain white mask as he turned from whatever it was he was doing to look toward her. Her eyes were locked onto him, while her head remained still while facing forward.
"Ah, there she is."
The moment he said that made her a little scared, for he made it sound like she was being escorted there. She was not of course, and she quickly realized it as the guard kept walking while passing the cell that held the man who was dressed up like an old doctor. Colette was relieved but tried not to show it as she followed the guard in front of her.
"Tell me your name miss?"
His words and voice was just so strange, for it was honestly like he was fully intrigued by her. Her eyes were on him curiously while she remained silent, and as he asked her what her name was, did her eyes shift to look at his own. Colette and him kept eye contact, and as she walked by the glass wall, did he follow her swiftly. He did this all the while not breaking eye contact.
It pained her not to speak to him, but the guard told her not to speak to him. So all that she could do was keep her eyes on his own, as they walked.
"What ever is the matter, You talked just fine before?"
Colette oddly enough heard him ask this again, in the same quiet tone in which only she could hear him. His words held curiosity and slight concern, for it was like he was genuinely worried about her. Though this was the second time that they had met.
Shifting her eyes to glance at the guard in front of her, did it seem like he understood.
"Ah, I see. You were told to not talk to me."
When he said this, the guard in front of her stopped curtly while his colleague who was behind the both of them expressed annoyance as he groaned. "Be quiet will you?"
Colette couldn't help but feel worried, for both guards did not like the fact that he kept talking to her. She looked at the man who was separated by the glass wall as he looked at both guards, rather unfazed. His eyes behind his mask, showed that he did not fear them. The guard standing in front merely looked at him while holding up his rifle, he did this in order to intimidate the man dressed like a plague doctor. "Keep talking to her and I will shoot you in your fucking face!"
Colette showed great concern, for she spoke up. "Please don't!, can we just go to wherever we are going!"
When she said this did she hear a light chuckle coming from other side of the glass, she looked at him and saw he was looking at her with his eyes locked on her own.
"You are a rarity, miss. Before you go, I would like to know your name."
The guard intervened while snapping, "Seriously be quiet!"
Colette gasped softly for her arm was grabbed all of a sudden after the guard snapped. He pulled her away quite roughly as his colleague followed after them. She looked over her shoulder and sure enough, she was being watched by the plague doctor yet again.
But his eyes were quick to stand out for they appeared to be glaring, was he angry at her or was he angry at the guard?
She looked away once she couldn't see him anymore, as she was taken to her location by both of the guards. When they reached their destination, did she blink seeing that it was Dr. Cade's office. Just the sight of it calmed her down immensely.
"Go on.", instructed the guard.
Colette nodded as she softly opened the door and walked inside, she saw Dr. Cade and smiled a bit as the doctor called her to come in with a professional smile. "Come in, Colette."
"Hey, um I wrote things down on the paper. Oh I forgot-", continued Colette for she did forget to bring it but one of the guards had walked in with the paper in hand. This baffled Colette quite a bit, but she smiled to show her relief. "Oh never mind!"
Dr. Cade let out a small laugh to what Colette had said while taking the paper from the guard, who then left after handing her it. "It is all good, now let's see?"
Colette was sitting in front of her desk while watching her curiously. Dr. Cade was looking it over quite thoroughly, while also writing something down on another piece of paper. It didn't take long until Dr. Cade spoke up. "These symptoms are rather intense, never had I seen anything like it?"
As Dr. Cade looked up after reading the symptoms, did Colette nod while trying to keep herself calm, she did this cause she didn't want another episode to happen again. "Yes. It was contagious only to my family so, everyone else was safe."
"I see?", replied Dr. Cade as she looked at the paper. "So why didn't you and your mother get it?"
Colette felt a shiver in her spine, taking a deep breath did she say. "I-I don't know? It stopped all of a sudden and it hasn't happened again for quite some time?"
Dr. Cade could see that this topic was very touchy with Colette, which is why she said. "Do you need a break?"
Colette couldn't help but nod, "I-If you don't mind?"
"Not at all.", replied Dr. Cade as she gave her best understanding smile. She looked at the symptoms again while Colette took a few good deep breaths with her eyes closed. She couldn't believe she had PTSD, but she figured it couldn't be helped. After all it was pretty traumatic for her and her mother to lose the rest of her family in only a few days time.
She just needed to calm down and think about other things, which she did for she looked at the doctor and asked her question. "Um who is that man wearing a porcelain white mask?"
Dr. Cade blinked rather suddenly that it made Colette blink a bit in surprise, for the look on the doctors face seemed a little serious. Maybe she shouldn't of asked?
"He is a doctor, but is very dangerous.", replied Dr. Cade as she looked at Colette. "Why?", she questioned in a curt tone.
Colette felt a little nervous, "Um he has been talking to me a bit? Not even that long ago as I came here, he was talking to me?"
Dr. Cade blinked as if taken back, "Really?" But her face changed to looking serious again. "If that is so, then I need you to listen to me. Do not talk or listen to what he says."
When she said this, Colette felt very uneasy and scared, but she figured that they had their reasons. It was very understandable, seeing that the reason was that he was dangerous. "I understand.", softly replied Colette. "I'm sorry about asking, I just didn't know."
Dr. Cade gave a brief smile, "It is okay. As long as you understand that he is dangerous."
****
Colette nodded to her while Dr. Cade looked at the symptoms again. "So it stopped? Do you know why?"
"No? But the doctors at the time said that it could be in some kind of dormant state in both my mother and I? Which is why the both of us became serious about taking care of ourselves more.", replied Colette honestly.
Dr. Cade looked at her now, while saying. "Well I suppose that is true? But to make sure, I am going to do some blood work on both you and your mother."
Colette nodded, "Okay."
"With any luck we can do this quickly and both you and your mother will be able to go back home.", professionally smiled Dr. Cade.
Those words were so powerful for Colette, that she grinned happily. "Thank you for helping both my mother and I!"
Dr. Cade kept her smile as she closed her pretty blue eyes. "Of course! You are very welcome!"
Colette couldn't wait to go home, but she knew it would take a bit of time. All she could do now was cooperate with Dr. Cade, and in doing so would it help quicken things. She smiled at the doctor as she stood up from her desk, and walk around it. "I'll be right back."
"Okay.", nodded Colette who was still smiling. As she sat there, the doctor walked out of the room and closed the door behind her.
"He is a doctor and is very dangerous.", those words from Dr. Cade buzzed in Colette's head as she waited for the doctor to return. She didn't fully know why he was dangerous, so assumed that he was a criminal or worked in an illegal practice. His words from earlier swirled around her head also, for he didn't seem like the hostile type.
Then again, when he was intimidated by the guard he didn't really show fear of any kind. It was like he didn't see him as a threat, even with the loaded rifle in his hands.
"Such a mysterious guy...", quietly spoke Colette as she thought more about him.
She also hated to not talk to him though, seeing that it was rude to not respond to someone who was talking to her. He asked her for her name, and seemed rather polite and kind. Though without a doubt he was the most eccentric man she has ever met.
It took a little while for Dr. Cade to return with what was necessary to draw blood for testing. The sight of blood didn't really bother Colette which was a good thing. She couldn't really be a good doctor if she was afraid of the sight of blood. Dr. Cade patched up the small wound with bandages after getting the blood. It stung for a little bit at first, and after a minute it stopped hurting.
"Okay, that about does it?", smiled Dr. Cade.
Colette smiled at her as she stood up, "So I guess you will tell me the results later?"
"Of course.", nodded Dr. Cade. "I will probably get them in a day or two?"
"Okay.", quickly replied Colette who was now grinning. "See you next time then!"
Dr. Cade waved after her as Colette walked out of the door and back outside where the guards were waiting to escort her back. She couldn't wait to go back to her cell, the quicker she does the faster it will be for her to hear her results and go back home with her mother. As she followed the guards back, she then remembered that she would be meeting him again.
She wondered if he was still standing where he was after she was pulled away. While she wondered about it, was her question soon answered. Seeing his cell and the familiar glass wall, did she see him standing where he was earlier. It was like he had been waiting for them to return the entire time.
"Ah, You have returned. I am glad."
Was his immediate response when he saw her which held so much elation, though she saw his eyes glare at the guard in front of her. It was such a venomous gaze, that sent chills down the spine. He was definitely mad at the guard, and she wondered why that was.
Was it cause he pulled her away roughly?
In response to his words she smiled a bit at him, which quickly made him chuckle. There they were again walking alongside each other separated by the glass wall, with their eyes locked. Colette kept her smile, while he looked at her with intrigued eyes.
The guard behind her scoffed, he clearly didn't like what he was seeing, "What is your problem man!?!
"I do have a problem SIR, you keep her from speaking to me."
His tone immediately turned greatly agitated when his eyes shifted to look at the guard who scoffed. He of course continued talking while keeping his tone.
"Not to mention that she was pulled quite roughly, which is another problem I have!"
Colette couldn't believe what she was hearing as she looked at him in surprise. He was that upset by her being pulled away, just hearing that made her feel a little funny. Her smile only grew a bit more, all cause he seemed like he cared.
The front guard was quick to stop and look at him as he snapped, "If you had kept your fucking mouth shut I wouldn't of had to pull her! She is not allowed to talk to you!"
His colleague showed greater annoyance as he gripped his rifle a bit tighter, which made Colette flinch and look back at him concerned.
"Do you not recall that she was allowed to speak to me before? I for one dislike those who invoke fear into someone. If I didn't know any better, the both of you are suffering from the Pestilence?"
Both guards could see he was becoming agitated, and it seemed to grow as he hissed out the last bit of what he had said. Even his eyes were hardened in a fierce glare, which almost made Colette's heart stop. Thinking of something to do to ease the situation, her mouth moved as if on its own. "My name is, Colette!"
Her words caught the attention of both guards, as they looked at her sharply not pleased that she spoke. But their heads quickly turned toward the glass wall, as a voice of completely strong elation broke the tension.
"What a bewitching name! Finally you tell me your name!"
Colette blinked at his words, for he sounded so utterly happy. One moment he was very agitated and then the next it vanished right after she had said her name. Who would of thought that her name cured aggression?
Course she was panicking, for she thought that something bad was about to happen so she said the first thing that came to mind. Plus she remembered that he had asked her for her name and just figured that it was a good time to say it before someone got hurt. Colette looked at him as he let out a light chuckle seeming to be in better spirits, which confused the guards.
Shaking his head, the guard walked ahead. "Whatever! Let's go."
Colette followed him and of course she was followed from the other side of the glass. She couldn't help but look at him curiously with a little smile and he of course looked at her with great interest. The guard behind her merely ignored what he was seeing, though his hold on the gun was still strong.
"I hope to see you again really soon, Colette. I will be looking forward to that day."
She could only nod to him in reply while trying to push back her fear, for she did speak to him when she was told not to. If she hadn't, who knows what would of happened. Then again, maybe nothing was going to happen seeing that a thick looking glass wall separated the three of them from him, the eccentric doctor.
Colette didn't know so panicked, but she was glad seeing that nothing was going to happen now. She looked back curiously from over her shoulder when she was to far away to be followed by him any more, she was quick to see him standing there in his cell while he watched her go.
He even did a small wave which could be seen as awkward or shy once he saw her look back, and that small gesture made her smile the entire way toward her cell.
