THE LOYAL ONE

'Hey Lex, what did you mean when you told me about my scent?' Sam thought while walking to her history class.

Each creature has a scent that helps other creatures find them and also to tell them apart. No two species have the same scent. Wolves have a specific scent for each pack. That is why the she-wolf is so important. When a male Alpha takes a bride they have a mating ceremony and their scents become one, making a new scent. With the pack acceptance ceremony, the blood of the bride and the blood of the alpha is shared with each pack member from each pack, therefore bonding the pack together. Your scent is very unique due to the fact that you are the last remaining she-wolf and also a Lycan. Every power-hungry creature will be naturally drawn to you so we need to hide your scent. I have already masked myself so no one can sense me within you, but your new scent is still very prominent. What I need you to do is to think of a way to cover it.

Sam stopped walking and pulled a bottle of floral perfume from her bag and sprayed it on her pulse and throat.

'Is this enough' she asked. She could feel Lex nod then she was filled with silence.

"Lex?" she asked out loud. A few passing people looked at her then shook their heads. Smiling shyly she kept walking to her class.

Don't worry Sam I'm not going anywhere, but I need you to focus on the class otherwise the teacher will suspect something. He is a wolf, one of the king's most elite. If he spots something is off with you he will not stop till he has figured out exactly what.

'Wait does he know I'm not human?' She asked slightly panicked.

No, but if he senses even the slightest change in you, he will.

Sam nodded and headed into the class, she found Lea at the back of the class throwing things at one of the other students. The moment Lea spotted her she waved her over, pushing the student next to her from his chair and shoving his books off the table. Sam laughed and took the seat. The guy stood up, but before he could say anything Sam gave him a 'don't-even-think-about-it' look. He grabbed his stuff and headed to another open table.

"What happened last night, one minute you were getting it on with mister hot stuff the next you just disappeared? What happened there? I mean come on that was such-" Lea's babbling was cut short by the professor walking in. Sam could feel Lex's tension, making her nervous in return.

'Lex, I need you to calm down.' She could feel her struggling to calm herself and after a while, they were both calm. The professor did not look her way nor did he give any indication that he knew something. After an hour of drawing doodles on her notebook and pretending to listen, the lesson was over. Lex was quiet most of the time, but she was also listening to things beyond the walls.

When Sam stood to leave she heard a stressed Lex growl softly.

'Lex, what's wrong?' She asked looking around anxiously.

There is another wolf here, not the professor, an older wolf. His wolf has sensed me. We must leave immediately.

'How did he sense you, I thought you were cloaked?'

He is stronger than the average wolf; no matter how hard I tried he would have found us. We have to go NOW!

Sam grabbed her bag and headed for the door as calmly as her racing heart would allow her. She pushed past her professor and almost stumbled into the hallway. She ignored Lea's calls as she dashed down the hall.

He is gaining on us, head for the forest. It's time for you to shift.

Sam almost tripped over her own feet as the words registered, but she dared not stop as she felt the sheer terror rip through her. Her pace increased and her sight became distorted.

Don't fight it, Sam, just let it flow. The moment you reach the forest I will take complete control. I need to. The wolf is a hunter, not a tracker if he catches us there will be no hope for us. We need to fight him in wolf form, so run Samantha, RUN!

Within seconds she was out of the building and crashing towards the forest. The moment she was hidden from sight a pain beyond any ripped through her body as her bones started breaking and shifting into position. It felt like the pain would last forever but before the thought could really register in her mind the pain was gone. She stood there, panting heavily, trying to calm herself when the sound of paws pounding on the ground filled her ears. A pale grey wolf burst through the thickening in front of her but stopped dead in his tracks when he saw her. To say he was nothing compared to her would have been an understatement. She was almost twice his size and the power radiating from her would have crippled any.

'Lex, why isn't he attacking?' Sam asked quietly, but she did not answer. Instead, she took a step forward, claws digging into the dirt and her teeth exposed in a deadly growl. To their surprise the wolf took a respective step back and lowered himself in a submissive bow, exposing his throat to her. Lex stepped over his submissive form and softly bit into his throat, he growled and she bit down harder to prove to him she is able to easily kill him. He whined and we could feel his complete submission. Lex bit down harder drawing blood and the wolf below her whined louder. She drew back, a drop of his blood trickling down her jaw. She growled as he shifted back into his human form. He stayed in a submissive position on the ground, with the shift she could see he had shredded his clothes and was now as naked as the day he was born. Lex started shifting back, but did not give Sam control; instead, she stayed in her part human, part wolf form and whispered the enchantment while waving her hand over her body. She was soon dressed in a simple dress. She did the same to the man and his body was soon covered by jeans and a black shirt. The man stiffened when he felt her power and heard her enchantment, but did not dare move.

"Who are you?" she asked in a demanding tone. The man visibly started shaking in fear but answered her none the less.

"My name is Aaron. I was sent by the king to scout this realm in search of you." He did not try to explain nor did he try to deny any of it, instead he kept his head to the ground and his body submissive. Lex knelt down next to him and placed her palm on the side of his face.

"Rise for me Aaron, and speak with pride, for you are of the Blood Moon pack. Do not fear me, but look upon me as the answer to your prayers."

The man rose slowly his head still bowed down in respect, but his posture proud.

"How did you know about my blood heritage?" he asked as he stared intently at the ground. A frown etched on his face. Lex placed her hand under his chin and lifted his head. His eyes grew wide as he saw the powerful being stood before him in her strange form. His green eyes stared intently at the golden orbs that demanded honesty but held motherly warmth to them. He closed his eyes and leaned into her palm. "Mother of all wolves, past, present, and future I bow to thee." He said as he bent down to one knee with her hand in his.

"Your blood is of noble descent. Tell me, who is your father?" the man remained in his position as he answered proudly.

"I am the son of Lucas, Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, direct descendent of the great hunter Burk, and from this day on I will serve you. Our true queen." Lex nodded and smiled proudly down at the man before her.

She knelt down next to him and lifted his gaze to her. "Go now and share the news. Recruit as many willing fighters as you can, but keep it away from the king's ears. Come find me when you have completed this task my son and we will restore that which truly belongs."

The man stood back up proudly and ran into the forest. Lex looked at him with pride and determination before giving control back to Sam, who has been quietly observing with surprise.

"Mother!" she shouted out as soon as she was in complete control. "We are supposed to be a mother to a whole God dammed army. What the hell!" Lex did not answer instead she opened up her emotions to Sam. Sam grabbed at her chest s all the emotions crashed through her soul. The feeling of pride was the strongest followed by a sense of duty to all oppressed wolves. That too was followed by a love so strong it almost knocked her from her feet. It was then and there that Sam realized her true purpose, why she was meant to survive the slaughter.

"Lex, they need us, now more than ever." She could feel Lex's approval as she made her way back to her apartment.

Sam was almost tackled to the ground by Lea. "Where the hell did you run off to. One minute you were so chilled I could have sworn you almost fell asleep, the next you were dashing down the hall as if your ass was on fire. Honestly, woman what the hell?"

Sam grabbed her friend's hand and led her to the couch. "I was being chased by a hunter wolf who tried to attack me, but my wolf, Lex, took control and the guy submitted. Now he is one of my most loyal followers and he is going to tell other wolves and I'm going to be the mother of all wolves and yeah, that is why I ran." She said honestly before Lex could interject the whole room was filled with the laughter of Lea.

"Okay okay, you don't have to tell me as long as you make it up to me tonight. You are buying the first few rounds and no sitting out of any dances.

Lex was stunned into silence and watched as Sam and Lea spoke as if she did not just hear about supernatural beings. They spoke about their next classes and what they were to wear tonight. They did not even go back to the topic of the hall dash. About an hour of endless chatter ended when Lea's phone started ringing. It was already 5 o'clock and Lea's boyfriend was going to pick them up at six. With a speed, she did not know these girls possessed they have finished showering, doing their hair, applying makeup, and getting dressed. Sam hesitated before leaving her room.

What's wrong dear? She asked Sam sighed and shook her head.

'What if he is there again?' Lex tried to think of whom but came to no conclusion as Sam exited her room. Before leaving the apartment she sprayed some of her floral perfume.

Good girl. Sam smiled to herself then followed Lea to the front lobby where a dashing Dan stood with a bouquet of red roses in one hand and a single white rose in the other. He handed the bouquet to Lea and hugged her close to him. He gave her a long and love-filled kiss then pulled away resting his head against hers and staring into her eyes before whispering so softly if Sam did not have wolf hearing she would have missed it.

"I love you." The smile that lit up her whole face showed just how much she loved him as well. Dan turned to Sam and handed her the single white rose.

"For your birthday yesterday." He said before turning back to an awing Lea. Sam held the rose close to her chest and followed her friends to the car.

Lex felt the longing Sam has felt since she was old enough to know what it meant. She longed for her parents, for her pack, for her mate, for someone to love her as Dan loves Lea and she understood why she longed for it.

Every werewolf, Lycan, or not long for their partner, the one to complete them and to build a life with.

But for some unknown reason, Lex felt that Sam has already found him, but has not yet accepted him. This was going to be an interesting night.
