Chapter 10

For the first time since I was bitten, I wondered if I had in some inexplicable twist of murky bad fate, stumbled through the Gates of Hell.

Hell was me getting bitten in the first place, Hell was me undergoing changes no one knew about, Hell was me having all my senses heightened, Hell was me even being able to hear thoughts, that even the lycans themselves can't hear, making me a weirdo in both human and supernatural world. Hell was me wishing my birthday doesn't have to come too soon.

Flopping unto my bed, I busied myself with counting each breathe I took, trying to listen to distinct heartbeats, the clock going TICK TOCK on the wall. Opening my eyes, I watched as a spider scurried off with it freshly caught prey, pinning it fast to it's sticky web. Sunset crept slowly down the sky, glowing a full orange, and casting eery shadows over the walls.

My eyes caught the glint image of the moon, almost peeking out from where it had been overshadowed by the clouds. Now, there is something intriguing about the moon this evening though. It was big, and almost round, not completely full though. I lost track of time just staring at it.

“Jay Darl”. I heard my mom called out and was jolted out of my staring trance.

“Yes Mom”. I asked back not moving from where I laid down.

“Mason's here to see you dear”.

“He's waiting for you in the living room or should I send him up”.

“I'll be right there Mom, just tell him to give me a minute”. I hurriedly said

I jumped out of bed, grabbed my jean trouser and my hoodie, jumped into them and headed down to see Mason.

“Hey Buddie, what's up”. I greeted him as soon as I came down the stairs to the living room.

“Hey there bro, I'm good”. He replied, not fully able to mask his worry.

“Anything the problem buddie?”. I asked him

“Uhm. . . Nothing much, mind if we take a walk?”.

“Sure... No problem”. I said leading the way outside.

As soon as we got outside, I decided to ask him what it was, that was bothering him, trying hard not read his mind, I promised myself not to try reading people's mind again. At least, if I'm not a normal human being, I could at least try to be a normal supernatural. What was I thinking though. Normal supernatural? Was there ever anything like a normal supernatural?.

“I was doing some research earlier, Jake!, and I discovered something I think you will love to know”. Mason said.

“What's that buddie?”. I asked, noting the tension in his voice.

“It's about your present. . . You know; your present form; being a wolf or something”.

“I. . . Discovered something that could affect both you and I, or even your mom and everyone close to you”. He said stuttering on his words.

“What's that buddie?”. I asked getting uneasy.

“It's the Moon bro, and not just any moon, Jake, the full moon”. Mason said, uneasy written all over his face.

“What's with the full moon bro, I don't understand all it is you are saying, mind shedding light?”.

“On the night of the full moon, Jake!, there are certain changes you'll undergo”.

I stopped, a part of me not really getting what Mason was saying, trying not to panic too, that, aside the changes I've seen, there would be more changes to come.

“That night marks the night you'll change into a wolf or Lycan as you've said, the night you change from being human to a complete wolf or whatever it is you said bit you”.

“Hmmm”. Was all I could think of saying.

“You'll become ferocious, bloodthirsty and completely untamed beast”.

“Beast?, Like I'm not feeling like one already". I said feeling my anger rising at no one in particular but myself.

“Bro?”. Mason asked fear written all over his face.

“What?”. I said not getting the point why he looks so scared.

“You might want to calm down a bit bro, your eyes are glowing, and you wouldn't wanna freak out people who would see your face that way”.

“I'm sorry bro, just lost it”. I said pleadingly.

“What about now?”. I said controlling my anger.

“It's back to normal now bro”.

“That's not all bro. . .” Mason said stuttering on the last word.

“Huh?”. Not sure of what to say, I gave him a quizzical look.

“The full moon. . . It is tomorrow bro”. He finished off.

Right there, it felt like I was being pushed headlong into the pit of hell, my chest constricted, making it a little harder for me to breathe. How my world would come crashing at the night of my birthday. The night I turn 18, all the plans I've mapped out for myself, places I would love to go. Fun I dreamed of having. Tomorrow is the day I lose everything.

Looking at the moon once again, trying to push everything Mason said away, but not knowing how. I felt Mason's hand on my shoulder, trying to comfort me.

What was I going to tell my mom, There's Rose there, we've only kissed once and I've dreamed of more. That thought brought a little smirk on my face. But a negative impact on my wolf that receded deep into the back of my head, making gaging faces.

“who would wanna hear I'm still a virgin". I asked him.

“Not my concern there”. He retaliated not coming out from where he was.

“Suite yourself”. I retaliated and shut him off too.

“So. . . Mason!, Any remedy to my not becoming a beast on the night of my birthday?”. I asked worriedly

“Not that I can think of now”. He said.

“Isn't there anything you read up that could stop me from becoming a beast?”.

“I'm sorry bro, I only saw what could hurt them, or kill them, not what could stop them from becoming beast”. He said hurriedly.

“Huh. . . What's that, tell it to me, it could be of help bro”. I desperately asked

“Silver”

“Silver?,”

“What silver?”. I asked confused.

“Anything that has Silver in it, like knives, chains, arrow tips, bullets and the likes”. Mason explained

“Oh... I see, and you say there's no more options down again?”.

“Nope bro, no other one I know of”.

“I think I'll have to do with the silver chain, let's say you chain me up to something, something big, like a tree, where I can't break free or harm anyone. . . How bout that?”. I said hoping there was sense in what I just said.

“That's a great idea bro, but. . . Which tree can we use, we can't possibly chain you up to any trees around here, it will attract onlookers, and that will create quite a scene.”

“You don't want that, do you?”

“We could try the woods, no one's going to want to venture into there in the night”.

“I'm not not sure, not with what happened last time we entered it, it's dangerous to venture in there ourselves”. A worried Mason said

“Don't worry bro, you'll be fine. I promise it will go fine”.

“I do hope so”. Mason said.

“Thanks bro for the tipoff, I think I'll be on my way home now, Bye for now. See you tomorrow”. I said wanting to go home already.

“Okay buddie, you just stay fine”. Mason said, turned and left for his house.

The walk home was a very long one for me, even though we only went two blocks down the street. The thought of what Mason just revealed to me troubling me to the very last bravery I had left in me. Changes, Beast, Bloodthirsty. All these didn't quite fit in into the plans I had for my life.

Life was never trying to be fair on me, just when I thought it had compassion on me being frail and helpless, and transforming me into a better me, it burdened me with more pressing problem of being a carnage and a beast.

Jake Robert. I guess you've offended your maker so much, that he hates your guts and is punishing you so much, you'll actually wish you were in Hell.

The thought of it, set ice down my spine. Tiptoeing up the stairs, I silently moved to to my room, flopped on the bed the third time that day, and without removing my clothes I slept off.
