Nellie and her younger brother Peter had suffered a great deal of abuse and hardship at the hands of their stepmother, father, birth mother, and even a boy she adored. 

Nellie's greatest wish throughout all of this was to find a place where she could leave happily with her brother without fear of their past following them both. But then another misfortune occurred, leading her to believe that no matter how hard she tried, her dreams would always be out of reach. 

However, things improve when Nellie meets a boy named Delian, who teaches her that life can be both kind and cruel and that it is not always one-sided. 

What happens when Nellie's now peaceful and almost perfect life is upended by an evil from her past life, who now claims to have nothing but good in its guts?

The joys of having a new family gradually became yet another nightmare. 


During Nellie's fifth months of pregnancy, Eke—her birth mother—took it upon herself to track down Sunny's family since Nana was no longer in the picture to do so. She accomplished her mission but kept that fact hidden from her daughter and sister. 


Eke went further to work on convincing Dickinson (her eldest brother) that Nana's health drastically deteriorated shortly after Nellie stepped into their lives; she added that all of young Nellie's problems were the loads that weigh down on poor old Melody heart and subsequently endangered her once satisfactory health. Eke went as far as pleading with her brother to keep their mother in his care until such a time she (Eke) deemed it advisable to reinstate Nana back to her home. 


Who knew a mother could be this heartless?
