Chapter 10

Their lips danced together in an aggressive dance trying to fight for dominance. Her frustration began to grow as his lust kept building and wrapping around her.

("Rayne, if ever there was a time for you to listen to me, now is it. Get away from him.")

She hardly registered the panic in the voice ringing through her head. She placed her hand on his chest and tried pushing against him to break the kiss. He let out a growl and pulled her closer his nails digging into her skin making her whimper.

("Fuck this.")

He tried pushing a force of energy through her to try to clear up the spell placed over her, yet the force of power that he tried to pump through Rayne's body seemed to be nothing, but a weak breeze compared to the power that Damien had, the pleasure flowing through Rayne's body was strong enough that even he was starting to lose control.

Damien pulled her closer to him finally shutting his eyes allowing himself to get lost in the pleasure. His hands wondering up her shirt causing her body to shiver against his gentle touches.

"You son of a bitch!"

Just as suddenly as the pleasure overwhelmed her it got ripped away leaving her feeling suddenly drained. Her body slumped and slowly fell back into strong arms. Her eyes weakly ran up the arms that firmly held her close to find Sebastian staring coldly at Damien.

"What a shame you two had to drop in. I was just about to get my fill." Damien said as he smudged the dribble of blood that had begun making its way down his chin.

Draven stood over Damien; his dark eyes were replaced with a golden shade that seemed to glow in the dulled light surrounding them. His usual calm demeanour was gone replaced with a blood lust that was suffocating everyone in the immediate area as he coldly watched Damien sluggishly pick himself off the ground.

"What's the matter field worker? You mad that I got to kiss her before you?" he smirked as he slunk into a fighting stance

"I told you to keep the fuck away from her, you're going to screw everything up and get us all into shit."

"Come now field worker, she needs to know, it's only fair, don't you think?" he asked. His smirk warped into a malicious grin while looking over Draven's shoulder looking over at Rayne.

Rayne's body tensed as his gaze fell on her. This wasn’t the flirt she had grown to know. His usual playful energy had been replaced with something darker, more sinister and bloodthirsty. Every fibre of her body demanded that she bolt out of the area and leave all this crazy shit behind her but rooted to the spot she remained. Glancing around at each of the boys, her gaze lingering on their features warping from what she knew.

“What the hell is going on?”

"Rayne." Draven's voice rang out causing her to jerk. She turned her head to look up at him, giving him her full attention. "I need you to leave, don't turn back no matter what you hear."

"What? Why?" her voice shook, panicked.

"This isn't the time to explain, right now. I need you as far away from here as possible"

"Aww, how cute, don't want your little crush to see me rip your throat out?" Damien laughed out, trying to push him far enough to get Draven to attack first.

Draven ignored him, turning to look at Sebastian. "Get her out of here before we attract attention and have more backlash to deal with."

Before he could get a response, he sharply turned his attention back to Damien, blocking a bone-shattering hit. Damien grinned sadistically as he swung another hit catching Draven off guard, starting his brutal attack.

His features had warped into something ungodly. His skin had gone paler, almost as if he had become a walking corpse, His irises, a deep blood red, black veins had formed around his eyes creeping towards his face.

This wasn’t Damien, it could be him. No matter how cruel he could be with people he decided didn’t amuse him enough, this couldn’t be him. He couldn’t be this terrifying creature. He couldn't be-.

A demon.

“There’s no such thing. There can’t be. Stories of angels and demons are nothing but religious mumblings to scare followers into remaining faithful.”

(“If that were the case then you wouldn’t be here witnessing all of this.”)

Fear, that’s all that ran through her veins as she watched the fight rage on. Each hit Damien and Draven landed on each other roared through the onsite graveyard like thunder. Black and red blood caked the damp ground and decaying tombstones. The sound of bones breaking and fixing themselves soon after made her feel sick.

She truly was witnessing a battle between the unnatural.

“They’re going to kill each other.”

(“This doesn’t seem like a problem to me. I say let them sort each other out, less of a danger to you,”)

” I can’t just stand here and do nothing!”

(“You’ll cause the death of someone if you get yourself involved. Either your friend dies protecting you from getting hit or worse you die at Damien’s hands.”) The voice muttered gravely (“Bow out now kid, you won’t be able to handle more blood on your hands.”)

Her heart skipped a beat, flashes of her parents’ bodies lying lifeless on the floor of their house. She began running towards the fight desperate to reach Draven and pull him away from the onslaught of brutal punches and kicks.

But before she could even think to scream out and beg the two to stop, Sebastian had grabbed her, throwing her over his shoulder. Before she had a second to register what was happening the sound of bones popping into place was heard. Glancing behind her friend her heart dropped. The adrenaline that had demanded she run and join in the fight had dried up as fast as it had flooded her veins

“No…”

A pair of smooth, ink-black wings were sprouting from his back.
