Watching Bakugo pace back and forth with sparks shooting from his hands is a little mesmerizing and I wonder if he'll always be this nervous before an interview. I'm pretty proud of this one though, he's been interviewed a few times, but never formally, and this time by a national magazine. Today's interview will focus on him overall and he has to take a view photos, he's not thrilled, but he's determined. The photographer and I talked about it, we'll do the interview first, take a break then do pictures with two outfit changes. We're going to show him in his office wearing a suit, in the gym in workout clothes, and in his costume out on patrol. "Do you want some water or anything? They should be here soon." He just shakes his head and continues pacing murming our little pep talk to himself. "Great hero, can totally do this, won't threaten to kill anyone, be fine." I hold back a laugh as I watch him, he's kinda adorable this way. It's not that he's nervous to talk to anyone, it's just that what few interviews he's done have led to bad publicity because he loses his cool, but I promised to stay near him and run interference, after nearly a month here, I'm pretty sure I know the warning signs. Adorable as his nerves may be I need to calm him down before they get here, I grab a cold bottle of water anyway, he needs something to sip on if his throat gets dry. When I approach him even knowing he's going to hate it, I touch the bottle against his bare skin on his neck to shock him away from the nerves. "What the hell L/N I'm trying to concentrate. That's fucking cold. Don't you have anything else better to do?" I shake my head at him "Nope, sorry. Planned my whole day around you. You're too tense, take a breath, take a drink, and try to trust me." He snatches the bottle from my hand sucking in a huge gulp of air through his mouth then pressing it out of his nose with great exaggeration before taking a drink from the bottle, he won't admit it, but it helped.
"So for the record it's spelled D-Y-N-A-M-I-G-H-T correct?"
"Yes"
"How old were you when you chose the name 'Great Explosion Murder God DynaMight?"
"16"
"I understand All Might has been your idol since childhood before becoming your teacher?"
"Yeah" I give him a look then mouth "ELOBORATE" at him. "Yeah, I used to love to play heroes and villains as a kid, I always wanted to be All Might when it was my turn to be the hero."
"Was it a big shock to you to have your idol as your teacher when you entered UA?"
"I downplayed it as no big deal, I didn't want to be seen as some fan boy with no future, but I was really excited." I smile, he's never told me that before.
"Is it true that you were also friends with Deku at a young age?" His face changes and I move in quickly. "Can we please keep focus of this interview on DynaMight and his life moving forward? Perhaps we can schedule something about his past sometime down the line." The interviewer looks at me with a smug smile "I was allowed to ask about All Might, is there some reason we cannot ask about Deku?" Bakugo turns to face the wall and I know he's working on the counting we talked about. "You asked about All Might after his hero name, we took it as trying to understand his desire to pay tribute to the hero." Bakugo turns back around looking at me like I'm some king of genius before sitting on his desk, arms folded. The rest of the interview goes smoothly, asking him about his time with Best Jeanist, his plans to open his own agency, his decision to do so in Musutafu. Nothing out of the ordinary or that pisses him off until the very last question.
"You've been a pro now for over six years, and have never given a formal interview. Is this just a publicity stunt ahead of opening your agency." I see the anger rising in his eyes, and I actually get it this time, what a pompous ass. I signal to him to take a drink before answering so he can take a moment.
"I'm not good at these, Miss L/N has been an asset in her short time here helping me to better understand the process from all sides. It changed my view on it from useless and unnecessary to a part of my job that I've been avoiding and needed to correct." With that the interviewer gets up and leaves bowing to me before exiting. "We have an hour and a half before the photographer is here. I brought you a bento, no complaining just eat it." His gaze is elsewhere as he takes the bento from my hands, taking a seat and starting to eat, mind thinking about I don't know what. I decide to leave well enough alone as I eat my lunch and consider the rest of our day. Once the pictures are done he's leaving the office to go look at a few places to move to so I plan to go home early. "Excuse us, we just want to set up a bit of extra lighting for the photos in the office, it shouldn't take long." The interruption breaks whatever he was thinking about and he grabs his bento walking out with me following behind. "I think I'll go change now." He hands me his bento and heads towards the clothes rack sitting next to my desk. The photographer and his lighting assistant don't say anything outside of what's needed. In the end they take a few snaps of him leaning against his desk, and some in his office chair. They tell him to just work out as he would normally in the gym and take candid photos of him, then on patrol the have him pose at a few well known spots in Tokyo. I tell them they need to send all pics to me for final approval and we part ways, Bakugo and I heading back to the office to gather our things and head home for the day. "You did great today, I'll see you tomorrow." He just waves me off and I head towards the train station.
