Common ancestor

They were walking down a wide hallway, but this time the color was totally different; from the light blue of the previous cavern to a light green color of the hall. The entire corridor was covered with a light mist, and in front of each pillar a plinth had been placed, on top of each plinth there was a glass box surrounded by formations that protected its contents while leaving them exposed. Tuatha would have stopped to check each of these boxes had it not been for Nicola's beckoning him to look forward.

Through the mist that still flowed in this place, at the end of the corridor, there were three large chairs raised slightly on a stage. There was an image of three men's faces above every chair in the area, and Nicola suddenly realized that he recognized one of the three men. He was the main man in the drawing he encountered earlier, he seemed to have a great status within that military troop.

Of the three chairs, the left had the face of the man he knew, an angled and serious face, with feathery scale marks on the neck and cheeks. In the center was an image of a blue-haired man dressed in a white uniform, with a dragon symbol embroidered on his chest. He looked young and handsome, but his eyes showed his maturity and deep vision. Just from his looks, it was definitely hard to tell his true age. And finally, on the right there was the last man, he was very similar to an ordinary man, except for the pointed ears and a greenish tinge in his hair and eyes, a snow-white skin and a big bow on his back. An elf.

"A high elf!" Tuatha said aloud, making Nicola turn towards him with a doubtful face, Nicola was a person eager for knowledge, but his range of knowledge was not as deep as Tuatha when talking about information related to customs, beliefs and story. The wisp seemed to enjoy the topic a lot by gathering information from all possible sources, normally Nicola would put his hands on every book he could get, but he only read the ones that interested him. Tuatha on the other hand read mainly those relating to history and customs, back on Earth he would be considered a renowned anthropologist or archaeologist.

"How can you tell the difference? I deduced it was just an elf" Nicola asked.

"It's simple, see, just as you are a high demon, there are high levels in most other races as well. From the conversation you had with Rhicina, about the demon ancestor, I searched and found it. Just as demons have one common ancestor, most other races also have. What happens is that the supreme ancestor has all the powerful characteristics of a demon and his lineage split giving rise to numerous different races of the same species, in the case of elves, there are several species known." The wisp started and Nicola paid attention to the story.

"There are several sub-races of elves and half-bloods, but we can classify them into five main tibes: the winged elves, sea elves, forest elves, star elves and drows. What happens is that, for some unknown reason, genetic mutation or chance encounter, the dormant genes of some individuals experience atavism. And gain some characteristics from the blood of Arv, the first high elf, and become more powerful and receive greater authority within their domains. High elves were a species. that enriched nature just by being there. Its power turned poisoned swamps back into clear lakes and grew blades of grass on the rocky mountains." He continued.

"Right, but you still haven't explained how you recognized he was a high elf." Nicola was curious.

"Calm down, I'm getting there. When an individual suffers atavism, the reappearance of characteristics of a remote ancestor happens. Usually, these characteristics are expressed in tattooed marks on your skin. Just as you have the heptagram on your belly, this individual has marks of clouds, waves and vines on its shoulder, only that his are much more discreet than yours." He said.

"I understand, but it doesn't explain how I have such a mark, after all I've never suffered any atavism." Nicola said looking at the mark on his stomach.

"It is not necessary that you go through the atavism directly, while the pure and high lineage can be maintained, the descendants naturally keep this mark on their bodies. It will only disappear when their descendants mix the blood so much that this characteristic will no longer be possible to show up." Tuatha explained.
