Verm raises the headless avenger, as he is a powerful undead, but it costs a lot of mana. This is generally not a problem but this place has nothing of ambient mana! This is absurd!
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? what did you do with mike?" Belmont still on the floor, breathless, with blood dripping from his mouth, points the Glock at Verm. Verm doesn't feel threatened because he doesn't understand the power of a pistol, he shakes his shoulders and answers confused "A headless avenger? I used the soldier's body to rise the undead and defeat the monsters outside, my barrier won't last long." This is normal, if a soldier dies he can continue to fulfill his duties in death. Verm walks to the body of the monster that was just killed, unfortunately, he has no mana to raise a greater undead, and a minor is simply not worth it. he looks at the wounded soldier aiming the projectile launcher at him, there is another soldier still alive but passed out nearby and a female soldier in shock. He needs to do something.
"Share the energy of the spirits with those who still walk on earth" Verm chant is one of the most basic spells in the school of overlife. He uses a minimal amount of mana in his voice and a little bit more to connect with his target, and a sea of mana returns to him, completely destroying the monster's body to dust. He feels he hasn't filled even half of what he spent to cast the Avenger, but it is enough.
"heal!" Verm caste magic in Belmont, it costs mana, but he is a great anatomist and manages to make repairs efficiently. For the other guy he needs even less mana, just a repair of the eye muscle and a patch on the skull.
The boy wakes up and belmont starts to breathe normally. Verm can't let them get distracted "In a few moments the barrier will break down, get ready for combat." He holds the staff and drives some mana to the bottom end. A long, thin black blade appears.
Jess runs up to john "JON! You're alive! Jon I'm sorry !! I'm really sorry!" the boy hugs jess the two cry and whisper among themselves. Belmont is sad, angry and confused. He can't understand who that person is and how he can do these things, that thing he calls an avenger is so horrifying! But moments ago it was mike, oh mike, "FUCK, can't you relive mike?" Belmont doesn't believe what he's talking about, but he has to ask.
Jon looks at Belmont, and then he looks at the avenger. He says nothing, frozen in shock, hope and then despair. His eyes fill with tears, the clothes are Mike's, but that isn't Mike. "it's not possible" The stranger look at them "The barrier will break now, get ready!" Verm suspected, but now he's sure, these people are complete amateurs. Probably conscript recruits.
Belmont realizes this isn't the moment "on your feet now, guys!" He gets up and runs to help Jon "The fight is not over yet" everyone is shaking, the previous adrenaline is over and fears are arising. But they are the guards of the community, other people are not trained to fight. Jon is a mess, but he holds his electric stick tightly, his eyes go between Avenger and the black mass at the gate. Jess wipes her eyes, and pulls out the mag, "I only have 3 more bullets"
"Make them count then" says the stranger. Immediately the barrier starts to break down in the air.
Do not last much. The lack of mana in the environment will change a lot how some spells work. Verm feels exposed, he is the weakest champion among the heroine's team, but he is still a champion. But now his magic is looking like it was done by an initiate. I will need to go back to doing research.
The barrier disappears.
"WAAAAAAAARH KWHERE ARE YOU BITCH'K" A toothless Orkrat comes running with a sword in his hand. He attacks Verm first, extending the attack too much, his swing is out of control and the flank overexposed. Not even the orcs fight so barbarically. Verm swerves under the blade, steps to the side and passes the blade over the Beast's Achilles tendon. A clean and precise cut.
The monster has 80% of its own weight on top of the broken tendon, the rest of the ligaments cannot take it and fail, stopping with cramps, sending thousands of signs of pain to the nerves.
The Orkrat collapses on the floor. Verm does not lose his moment and goes towards the other monster. Behind him, the Orkrat is screaming and the humans can barely understand what is happening. How did he manage to hurt a monster that fast? Bullets barely bother them!
Belmont is the first to come out of the trance, "ATTACK!" he kicks the sword away, and starts beating the monster. With the injured monster it is easier to reach sensitive areas such as the head, eyes, throat, pelvis and shin. Jon is screaming and crying as he repeatedly hits random places in the fallen monster. Jess approaches calmly, she aims at the monster's head but doesn't shoot, Jon needs it.
This orkrat takes a much more conscious stance than the fallen partner, placing the sword in front of him, but he has two opponents and the Avenger does not feel pain at all and is not afraid to die. The battle will be anti-climatic, and these are Verm's favorites.
With a mental command the Avenger throws himself towards the monster that makes a great frontal attack. But Undead doesn't care, the blade penetrates him, but he continues until he embraces the monster. With its superhuman strength and the difference between sizes, a suplex is easy.
THACK! THUM!
The first sound was loud, from the back hitting the floor. But the second is the muffled but scary sound of a head being crushed. Verm approaches the disoriented monster and crosses the tip of the staff in the head of the monster. Dead meat.
The avenger moves to the next monster, ready to fulfill his mission. But the rifle's stunning sound is like thunder. You hear it in your chest and then in your ears. Jess finished the beast. Jon is a mess of tears and fluids. His bloodstained face and fatigued arms that can no longer hold the electric stick.
The avenger goes to Jon's side, the boy has his eyes wide. Slowly the green light fades. Jon starts to raise his tired arms to touch the creature, but the avenger has already accomplished his mission. And it melts in the wind.
Leaving nothing behind.
Just pain and memories.
