Bia's antics -The old leather book

With this book, Bia first learned about her parent's history.

She would spend  hours in the afternoon  lying on the wooden floor of her room on the boat just reading the book.

It was a huge book made entirely of dark leather. There was nothing on the cover, just the leather, so that a thief would not think it was valuable. But if you dared to open the book the first words you would read were "treasure book".

The first time Bia opened the book she did not know what treasure means so she did not got from the first page before letting the book aside and going back to play.

The second time she opened the book, it was just because she was very bored. But as she already knew what a treasure was, it had become the most interesting book she ever read.

The first page contained a list of rules

Bia already knew even before she could read.

Before I said what they are, there is this interesting story about it:

When Bia was smaller than she is now, one of the boys at the( yes, the same boy from the other time) port asked Bia if she had a bible at home, and if not, if she wanted to buy one.

Bia asked the boy what a bible was and the boy said it was a book where the world of god was written. Then Bia asked back what the world of god was, and the boy spent a long time thinking about it. When he found an answer he replied:

— All that is right and the rules that make us good and fair people.

For that Bia replied she already had one of those at home. And I need the book the boy was selling was also a dark leader book, the only difference was the catolic symbol on the cover.

If we look better at the first page of your book we can find many similarities to the bible, but the content is really totally different.

First of all there was no summary, the book began straight in the first sentences written in golden letters: Code of conduct. Below was written in old ink:

      0.    The rules below apply to everyone, everyone will always be judged and treated equally among teammates.

All decisions must be taken democratically, punishments for breaking the below-listed rules can range from abandonment to death, all must be taken only if the majority chooses to do so.

Not allowed, if done, must be punished: bets, cheating comrades, fights aboard the boat, lovers or children(that are not teammates)  aboard the boat, traitors and deserters aboard the boat, making the musician work more than 6 hours a day or 6 days a week.

All must swear loyalty to the captain, You must always be ready to give your life for the captain in battle. The captain will always win most of the loot. You must not leave the troupe before paying the agreed amount to the captain. You must never betray, cheat, steal, offend, or abandon the captain.

And as a small not it was incremented with pencil by someone: (please, lights out after 9 pm)

The first time Bia read those rules she made some big chaos on the ship. It is not a long story so I will quickly tell you.

It was a very sunny day but Bia had chosen to read the book again instead of playing outside. And as you know, when she saw the world "treasure" her curiosity made her read all the rules very carefully. When she finished she first thought that the last rule was written by her own father, because he could not open one eye after 9pm. But most important for her was the last forbition. To explain it we have to go a bit outside and a bit in the past.

If you were to visit the ship you would find many strange things there, it was a very big boat for only eight adults and one child.

There were four sails larger than four men.  The pole rose like a giant tree and the deck was big enough to play football with teams of five each.  To climb on the ship you needed a ladder with at least four meters.  If we go inside the ship we will see the captain's cabin and an other huge cabin with enough tents for 30 people to sleep if they squeeze.

There were tons of dried and frozen foods in barrels at the basement. And in the inside of the boat there were also many music instruments, violins, trumpets, clarinets and even a piano.  In the past the owners of these instruments were a band and the ship was populated by more than twenty men!  But currently none of the crew were talented enough to play them.  That was until Bia was born.  Since she was little she showed interest in them and with time she learned most of them herself!  As the men in the ship loved good music they did not hesitate to invest in all kinds of tutors for Bia, the problem is that one thing led to another.  To learn how to read the music sheet, Bia needed to know how to read, to learn how to play with rhythm, Bia needed to learn math and so on.  When Bia was six years old, the age most children go to school, she was taught by all the residents of the ship.  In the end, she studied much more than the normal child.  8 hours a day, which left only four hours of sun to play. For Bia this was always absurd. She considered herself the music of the troupe and thought that studying was also a job. So when on that sunny day, she first read the ship's rules, she immediately went to complain to the captain that this was a violation of her rights! But it's not easy to be convincing when you're 7 years old and your parents are the captain of the ship.

Luckily for her, some of the other residents who were very affectionate with her overheard the conversation and began to support her cause.  In the end, everyone came to an agreement.  The captain took his quill, dipped it in ink, opened the old black leather book on the table, and added at the end of the first page: It is forbidden to make children or scholars on the boat study less than 4 hours or more than 6 hours a day, or  on holidays.

It was only on the next evening that Bia took time to read the second page of the book. For one, she read very slowly at the time and for another she had spent the last evening celebrating her victory.

But that evening when she began to read, she found it all só facianting that she did not stop until the book was over.

I will not tell you all that was written in the book for it was a very big book and if I did só, it might have more of this book than the actual story. But I can tell you ah bit to satiate your curiosity.  Buckle up, sailor!  This is the story of the pirate family B.
