Chapter 52

"Exactly what are you planning?" The tall broad man asked in his deep, authorative voice.

"You know me very well Derek. I play expertly everytime. I already have the next 5 years of my life planned." Nathan leaned against his Mahogany door, casually sipping rich, costly Red wine.

"Don't tell me you want that girl?" Derek looked at him, narrowing his eyes as if 'she' was a lowly being.

Nathan clicked his tounge in annoyance, "Derek.... Don't speak of Carina in such a way. She's my first love. And your soon to be sister-in-law." Derek sighed.

"I thought you might want her as a concubine but here you are, thinking of marrying her."

Nathan smirked, "I'm just a fool in love. I've wanted her in my arms for so long that they've gone sore."

"I still can't believe you killed your brother for her."

"He was a nuisance. I actually gained a lot through his murder. The property is almost all mine." Derek gulped.

He never thought Nathan would go so far as to kill his own flesh and blood. He feared if Cecilia had a son, he might kill them too. He was hard to read. A puzzle which the finest of detectives couldn't solve.

"And your mother?"

"I don't think she has many years left to live either. I might send her to her beloved first born soon." Nathan slowly said, thinking about how she wanted to kill Carina straightaway. He wouldn't let her though.

"If anything, my next target is Tommy Ainsworth." His eyes glowed dangerously.

"What was that ?" Cecilia asked her maid.

"I think a car crashed with a tree. The driver is in critical condition." Cecilia gasped. Bad omens were all over their mansion. Some of the maids claimed they had seen horrific dreams, while others saw dead Ravens. She could sense it. Something bad was about to happen.

Thomas and Carina sat in silence, their minds fazed. Carina was still anxious, Nathan's actions had taken a big toll on her.

"We have to stop him", Thomas said, voice shaking slightly.

"No. He will kill you if you get involved. We can't do anything." Carina felt sudden strength overtake her, like it had when Thomas had left.

"Don't be ridiculous. What if he kills you ?! What if he does something else ?" Carina knew the implied meaning of 'something else'.

"Then I will accept it with open arms. But you, have to stay away from him. You should take your wife and probably move somewhere."

He scoffed,"You think I would do that? I'm not some coward who would..."

"You are about to be a father !" She raised her voice. "This isn't a joke Thomas ! You need to be here for your wife, your child, 'your' family ! Whatever Nathan wants is me. Charles has already given his life in vain. I can't let anyone else repeat it."

Thomas was stunned for a moment. Carina wanted to protect him, his wife, his unborn child. She had grown into a responsible young woman. She wanted to give her life and protect him.

"I'm not going anywhere. You said to protect my family. You are 'my family.'" The fire in his eyes matched hers, leaving an awkward silence.

"I don't want to be your family. I already have my own. When I wanted you the most to say those words, you turned on your heels and left. You found comfort in this home. You belong here. Don't try to be my family."

She coldly stared at his soul. Thomas sighed at her stubbornness. His blood boiled when he thought about Nathan. How could he look at 'his' Canny that way? He was going to pay, pay severely.
