Waking up was neither one of your guy's strong suits. Tendou hated the morning. So bright, colorful, and happy. The opposite of what most days are like. He preferred the rain, cold, and night. You, like him, hated the mornings. You had more appreciation for the more rare things like thunderstorms, or maybe staying up late to watch a meteor shower.
"Tendou.... Tendou! Wake up!" You shouted, shaking him wildly around. He screamed, waking up, and falling off the bed, dragging you along with him. You both landed on the floor with a thud. "Fuck... that hurt ya know," he muttered, holding his head. "I'm so sorry. I had been trying to wake you up for like half an hour," you explained. He sighed, staying on the floor. "Ushiwaka is probably up already, so I'll just-" he started. "I was going to ask if you maybe wanted to get coffee this morning? To make up for how foward I was last night, and for knocking you off the bed?" You interrupted. He lay on the floor, looking up at you. "Sure... but won't we be late for practice?" He asked, getting up from the floor. "It's an hour before practice starts. I think that gives us time, no?" You stated, getting your practice clothes out of your drawers, as well as your school uniform from the closet. "Uh... an hour before practice? Yeah, sure. Why not?" He muttered, picking himself up off the floor. "I still have to go back to my dorm to get my clothes, but I'll wait for you outside your door," he said, going towards the door. "Alright," you said, starting to get changed. He blushed, and quickly walked out of your dorm, shutting the door behind him. He walked across the hall, bumping into someone. He gave an annoyed sigh, and looked to see who he bumped into. "Huh? Oh, good morning Tendou," Ushijima said. Tendou sighed in relief, seeing as it was just his friend and fellow teammate. "Goodmorin' Ushibuddy," Tendou said. "I notice you didn't arrive last night? Where were you?" Ushijima asked. Tendou froze. Should he tell Ushijima where he was? 'He's not going to tell anyone any way. We can trust him.' "You locked me out last night, and our manager just so happens to live in the room in front of us, so she offered me to stay the night," Tendou explained. "I locked you out? Sorry," Ushijima apologized. "No problem. I just need to get my clothes," Tendou excused himself. "Why are you up so early?" Ushijima questioned. "Well, practice is in an hour, and (Y/N) invited me out to coffee," Tendou explained. "Alright. Just don't be late again," Ushijima said. Tendou nodded his head as he opened the door to his dorm. "Oh, and one more thing. If our manager can't walk, run, toss volleyballs, or do basic manager things today in practice, you'll have some consequences," Ushijima stated as he walked away. Tendou's face exploded in red as he reached for the doorknob. "Can't walk, who the fuck does he think I am? SemiSemi? Him? Jesus christ..." Tendou muttered as he grabbed his clothes and school uniform. As he did he noticed his half of the room looked... messier... "He wouldn't dare... if my stash is gone I swear to god-" Tendon muttered under his breath. He didn't mind if Semi took some from him, but he just wanted him to ask. Ushijima obviously wouldn't stop him if that happened. Tendou rolled his eyes as he grabbed the rest of his stuff. He grabbed his keys as he left the room, making sure he didn't have to take another night from (Y/N). When he left his room, you were already standing outside of your dorm, what he assumed to be a practice bag held in your arms. "So, we can go drop this off at the gym first, then go to get coffee, and come back for practice?" You suggested. He nodded, and you two began walking.
You two were on your way to a nearby coffee shop. "So... what are some things you like?" You asked, trying to break the silence. "Hmm... volleyball, Ushi, and manga," he replied, placing his arms behind his head. "You read manga too?" You asked. He nodded, assuming you were going to make fun of him. What he didn't notice was your use of the word 'too'. "I love reading manga! It's so interesting, and the stories that people tell through the art!" You exclaimed. He looked at you, taking notice of how tall you actually were. You were about an inch or two shorter than him, which he found surprising. And the way you spoke so passionately about something he liked made the butterflies in his stomach intensify. 'Nononono! Back the fuck up- When did this feeling come into play? Leave it. Forget about it. Don't ever think about it again.' So, you two went on. You entered through the coffee shop door. There wasn't that many people, as it was still really early. You looked up at the menu, trying to decide what you wanted. While Tendou tried to hide himself next to you. He felt out of place. As usual. He taped on your shoulder and whispered, "Um... this is going to sound weird, but... can you order for me? I don't do well in... social... situations." You looked at him, and nodded your head. "Of course I can. What do you want?" You asked. "(F/C/O) (new term, favorite coffee order!)," he responded simply, his eyes darting around quickly, almost as if someone was going to sneak up to the two of you, and murder both of you. You smiled, "What a coincidence. That's my favorite." He stared, shocked, as you walked up to the register. He looked around, trying to make himself seems smaller. He didn't like the eyes that were already on him. A few judgemental older women dressed in nice work clothes stared in disapproval. He looked away with the thought of, 'eh, they're old. They'll die soon anyway. Fuck off, boomers' passing through his head. But then, he saw her. The girl of his nightmares. Her silky, necklength, ebony hair swaying as she walked. The eyes that looked like amethysts, something he'd always loved about her. And the fake smile she wore. He froze up. It was his ex. Now, in this moment, he had two choices. One, just not pay attention to her and go on with his day, or two walk over to you and hide by you. Option two was looking pretty damn good to him. He made a beeline straight towards where you were, waiting for the drinks. He stood by you, and you smiled. "Don't worry, I already paid for our drinks. My treat, as I said earlier," you said. He nodded, keeping his eyes to the floor. "Something wrong bubs?" You asked, placing a hand on his shoulder, the nickname falling of your lips like water rushing through a city. A tsunami that seemed to want to break down his walls. "I-i," he started, before getting interrupted by a voice.
"Well well well, if it isn't the monster that haunts everyone's nightmares," a sickly sweet vouch taunted. You looked around, thinking the person would be at eye level. And then you looked down. A snicker passed your lips. "Bitch, you're one to talk. Gremlin looking ass," you snickered as she looked at you with a face of shock. "Do you know who I am?" She asked with a snobby attitude. "Hmm... let me guess, you're Tendou's ex," you guessed. "Excuse me? I'm more than some idiotic monster's ex girlfriend! My name is Akari Tenshi!" She shouted in offense. "Whatever. Leave us alone runt. We don't need a 4'5 elf talking to us in her annoying shrill voice before we've had our coffee," you said annoyed. "I am 5'3, thank you very much. I'm very tall," she pouted. "Well, I'm sorry! Let me rephrase that, now that I know how tall you are! Leave us alone runt. We don't need a 5'3 elf talking to us in her shrill voice before we've had out coffee. Fuck off," you said sarcastically, rolling your eyes. She huffed, and walked to the register. The barista placed your guy's order on the counter in front of you. "And here you go, 2 (F/C/O) to go! Have a nice day!" They said with a smile. You thanked them, handing one of the cups to Tendou as you walked out of the shop.
You took a sip out of the warm drink, sighing in happiness. Tendou was still in shock of what had just happened. Someone had stood up for him, while he sat there, useless. Suddenly, you gasped in shock. "T-tendou, your arm!" You exclaimed, grabbing his left arm. There where little trickles of blood running down it. He looked down, noticing it. "Well shit," he said nonchalantly, wiping off the small droplets of blood with his other arm, still holding his coffee. You noticed the crecent shaped indents in his skin. You know realized what had happened. "Tendou, if you told me, we could have left. If she causes you that much anxiety to the point where you can't be around her because you'll hurt yourself like that, then tell me," you said sadly. He just nodded his head. "Eh, not the worst thing I've done to myself," he muttered. You didn't seem to hear, as you just took a sip of your coffee.
You both got back to school ten minutes before practice started. Most of the boys were there, only a couple were missing. The boys greeted you as you entered. You smiled, finishing the last of your coffee. "Alright! So, since this is the first morning practice you've had with me, but it's not the last, quick tip. Don't talk to me until I've had my coffee, got it darlings?" You said, going over to the storage closet, grabbing the ball cart and rolling it out. "Coach put me in charge for today's practices as he has other affairs to attend to. He gave a quick rundown of what you usually do, but I was given freedom to alter that. First things first, roll call and then stretches. Let's go!" You yelled. The boys gave a quick nod as they lined up. You called their names, and weren't surprised that no one was late. Of course, a few had walked in while you were talking, but they still weren't late. You started with stretches, making sure the boys didn't get injured during practice. "(L/N)- San, could you... um... help me?" Goshiki asked nervously. "Of course! What do you need help with?" You asked, holding your clip board to your chest. "Stretching..." he muttered. You nodded with a smile as he sat on the floor, his legs spread out her side of him as you helped push him down. "If it hurts, don't push yourself, alright?" You said. He nodded with a smile. You looked to see how everyone else was doing, and noticed that Tendou looked absolutely bored. And not to mention the fact that he was basically doing the splits and leaning all the way down to the floor. He looked up at you and grinned. "I'm hella flexible what can I say Manager-Chan?" He shouted. You laughed, and led the rest of the stretches.
As the practice got close to 7:15, you decided it was a good time to end it. "Alright! I think now is a good time for practice to end this morning! Go take a shower, and get dressed for school! Remember, practice tonight at 7, and I'll let you out at... what time, Ushijima?" You questioned the stoic captain. "Well, I would usually say 10, but as I was not put in charge, I can not decide," he said plainly. "Alright... uh... since it's Friday and we don't have practice till Monday, I'd say I'll let you out around 9:30 tonight. Bye bye boys, I'll see you all later!" You shouted. The boys left the gym, going to the locker room to change. You did the same.
When you got out, you where surprised to see Tendou waiting for you. "Well, we have the same class, let's go," he said with a smirk. "Oki doki!" You said, walking along sides him.
