After a surprisingly nutritious lunch, Sam licked his lips in satisfaction and started returning to Delilah's room. [Who knew the hospital cafeteria would have such good food. Next time, I should just order food from the cafeteria for Delilah. I wonder which dish she would like...]
Probably due to habit, Sam found himself thinking about Delilah again and he shook his head to get rid of the thoughts. After what happened today, he really needed to reevaluate his feelings. How could he continue to love a woman that was this selfish? Especially when she thought he was gay and there was no chance they would ever end up together. Wasn't he just wasting his time?
As he was walking, Dr. Brown suddenly asked beside him, "Have you seen much of Vegas yet?"
Sam turned to look at the man. He was so deep in thought, he had almost forgotten there was a person walking with him. "Apart from a pool party, we haven't done much," he replied. "Dels got into an accident on our first day here and I've been keeping her company ever since."
"Well, if you're free tonight, I'm not on call, would you like to visit one of the clubs together?" the young doctor asked. Although his job was serious, he was still young and needed a social life.
Sam looked at the doctor awkwardly. Was this man asking him out on a date? This was not the first time a man had been interested in him.
Sensing the awkwardness, Dr. Brown quickly added, "I can invite Sumi and you can bring along a friend if you want. It will be fun. Do you like electronic music? DJ Dee is playing tonight!"
"DJ Dee?" Sam asked excitedly. That was Delilah's favorite DJ! They had once traveled all the way to Tomorrowland in Belgium just to see him play. Who knew he was performing in Vegas that night.
Sam thought about it for a moment and eventually nodded his head. He could invite Tiffany to go with him and they could live chat with Delilah. She would love it even though she couldn't join them physically. He could already imagine how excited she would be.
Dr. Brown smiled. "Great, I'll send you the details of where to meet up. Can I get your number?"
Sam paused. What a smooth move. This man had found a way to get his number without being too pushy. [Maybe I should take some pointers and use this trick to find a proper girlfriend.]
As he laughed on the inside, he accepted the doctor's phone and started punching in his number. Even though he knew the young doctor had misunderstood, he still gave his number to him anyway. "Forget it, I'll clarify everything with him later after we're relaxed and in a casual setting," he told himself.
Unfortunately, when it came to telling the truth, Sam was a serial procrastinator.
If he could lie to Delilah for 10 years, how long could he lie to Dr. Brown?
...
Of course, another person that was caught in a web of lies was Maya.
However, she wasn't procrastinating, she was simply waiting for the right time. In fact, the more she got to know Lucas, the more desperate she was to tell the truth even if it meant that he would never talk to her again. After all, he had already been through so much. If she deceived him as well, then she would be a horrible person. If Delilah was genuine about marrying him, then she would have to do the right thing and pursue him herself.
But, of course...this was all under the premise that he wasn't lying as well...
Maya decided to make some calls the next day. Lucas was from LA. If she called up a few of the psychiatric hospitals in LA, she was bound to find some information on Nova and confirm his story. She was certain of it. She had been working in LA for 4 years and was familiar with the city; finding this information shouldn't take too long.
But for now, she had to endure for just a little longer. She had already let her guard down, she couldn't be so stupid as to expose herself before she got solid evidence.
With this thought, she tried to turn her head and walk away from the man in front of her. "I think it's about time we return to the helicopter," she said. However, Lucas' hand was hooked under her chin and he did not let her look away.
Maya looked at the man awkwardly. Why was he not letting go? "Is there something on my face?" she asked as her heart continued to beat quickly.
Lucas' lips curved upwards slightly. He looked at the woman's straight eyebrows, her big eyes, her tall nose, and her luscious lips. Up until this point, he had not studied her face properly. Unlike the previous night, she had light makeup on today and it made her look even more beautiful. How many men had she attracted with these looks? "I'm memorizing how you look so I can recognize you at the masquerade tonight. I don't want to lose you. You might run off with some blond guy and abandon me," he teased. Although he was confident, Ryan's words still bothered him a little.
"Blond guy?" Maya questioned with curiosity. Why did it sound like there was an underlying meaning to these two words?
Lucas smirked. Did she think he didn't know what she had done? "Ryan said you were flirting with some blond guys at the pool party the other day, and it looked like you were flirting with Noah today. Miss Yeung, are you sure you want to marry me? I'm not blond..."
Maya brushed away his hand and laughed. She knew the man was teasing her, but she also sensed a trace of jealousy and she found it quite amusing. No wonder he grabbed her hand earlier and pulled her away from Noah.
Maya looked into the man's eyes. Was he hoping for her to reassure him that he was the most handsome guy in the world and she would never lay her eyes on another man? She was not feeding his narcissism like that!
Revealing a cheeky smile, she looked at the man's hair and replied, "You can always dye your hair. A few sessions of bleach should do the trick."
Lucas raised an eyebrow and looked at the woman speechlessly. Her responses were always so unexpected...
