"I knew you were hiding something." Shera shrugged. "I just didn't think it was…" She remembered what she had asked a moment ago. "Is he still alive?"

"When I last saw him, yes he was." She pursed her lips. "I asked Santino to let him go. I'm not sure he did."

Shera rolled a pen using her fingers with a nonchalant expression but Kara knew she would explode if she didn't hear the whole story. So she spent the next half hour explaining how things came to this.

Shera puffed out a breath. "So much for promising to leave my family alone."

"Technically, he didn't say he would leave your family alone. Just La Rose Noire." Kara reminded her.
