"Ash?" She couldn't keep her shock in check. "What's going on?"

"I'm sorry, Kara. I came too late."

She didn't wait for the latter to explain before she rose from her seat and rushed out of the theater. Carlos caught up to her at the door and grabbed her hand. "What's going on? The movie is starting."

"Who cares about the movie?" She snapped, running a hand through her hair. "I don't think my mom is fine. Ash called me using her phone and…why would she call me using her phone? Couldn't mother call me on her own? Why can't she talk?"

"Hey, calm down okay? We can figure this out." He held her by the shoulders. "You just need to calm down. Think."

"Calm down? My mother could be in danger, Carlos! Ash also said…" his lips landed on hers before she could finish her statement.

"Okay, I'm calm." She pulled away from him and took several deep breaths. "What should I do?"
