Chapter 1

My Dad doesn't talk to me much, not since I couldn't save Mom. We live in the same house, one room apart, but it felt like miles.

You see I was born with special abilities. My best friend Sarah calls me Superboy. My name is really Ethan, Ethan the Superboy if you ask her.

Sarah Jenkins is the only person, other than my Dad, that knows of my abilities. Plus, she kinda likes me.

The night Mom had her fall was one I will never forget. Not because of how shocking and sad it was but my mind never forgets anything, ever.

It's one of my many abilities.

She fell down the stairs in our house. My Dad was near her and suddenly she tumbled down the stairs. I did a body scan as soon as I got to her from my dinner at the dining room table.

She had suffered many broken bones that I could have fixed knowing what I know now. My powers were a little less precise back then.

Dad didn't care. He knew I could fix things. He knew I was able to perform superhuman tasks.

He pleaded with me, yelled at me, and grabbed me in an attempt to unleash my powers. It didn't work.

Dad took me outside one day to a dead squirrel in the road. Poor guy had been squished flat.

I scanned the squirrel and developed my plan of action. In mere seconds the squirrel was healed, alive, and off to find its family.

Dad had witnessed it and knew I was able to perform lifesaving acts.

He just didn't understand it had to be practiced and grown into second nature for me.

The three months after Mom passed I trained daily. During summer break and preparing for fourth grade, I pushed my powers beyond belief.

Each day I grew stronger, every day my strength was enhanced while I thought of my Mom. She was my guiding light, my sole purpose.

"Super powers can be a gift but if they are not respected they can become the worst gift possible."
