Chapter 15

After a long drive and series of turns and direction changes, we arrived at a small farm with no surrounding buildings, cars, or people. It was Sarah's Grandmother's farm that she left to Sarah Mother after she passed away.

No one knew about this farm. Only the Jenkins family.

We parked the car in the barn and closed the door. Then we proceeded inside the fancy old timey house. It had a porch with white handrails and rocking chairs on it.

The front door opened at the bottom and at the top, I'd never see a door like that before.

Once we all entered and Brute had time to sniff around for any possible people that weren't invited, I performed a scan of the house.

Room by room, I stood in the doorway with Sarah by my side and analyzed each for dangers, structural integrity and any other things that could harm us, such as, mold, spiders, and broken glass in the carpet.

Each room, all twelve of them, passed my scan test. All of them except for one.

The master bedroom.

This room was the largest of all the rooms. It had gorgeous white paint on the top half and shiny red paint on the bottom. The bed, as large as it was, barely took up any room compared to how big the area was.

There was something about the attached bathroom though. I couldn't quite place my finger on it but something wasn't right, "Brute, can you come upstairs please?"

Brute's feet drummed the downstairs hardwood floors, his nails clicked their way up the stairs until he reached the carpet, "What's going on Ethan, what is it?"

I pointed to the bathroom, "Something isn't right in there Brute. Something is making my scan feel odd."

He hissed in agreement and proceeded in for his first true mission, "Give me a second kids, let me see what we have going on."

Just as he was about to breach the door, I x-rayed through the bathroom wall, "It's small, something alive, it's moving."

As soon as Brute heard small and moving he rushed in. Nosing the door open, a Momma Possum popped out, hissing and shrieking.

I put out both my hands and really focused on the possum. It took all my strength but I got her to talk, "What do you want!? My babies are in there! I'll bite you! Seriously!"

Brute decided since he was an animal and Momma Possum was an animal they could talk animal to animal, "Listen ma'am, we are not here to hurt you, in fact, we can help you. You can live in the master bathroom while we inhabit the rest of the house. We are in danger and in desperate need of compassion. Is this a good deal for you?"

Momma Possum hissed, "Deal. Stay out!"

She scurried back into the bathroom and slammed the door with her tail.

We all chuckled a bit quietly not to disturb the Momma.

I had a bad feeling that wasn't the only danger we would encounter today.

"Making animals talk can be a fun use of one's abilities."
