Chapter 20

With all the bad guys incapacitated, I scanned all of my friends. Brute had been fixed. Sarah was perfectly fine, a resilient ten year old girl. Miss and Mister Jenkins had bruises and abrasions all over but that was quickly taken care of by the touch of my hand.

We were all fine. We now had the Director and my Dad captive for the time being and the other guys were down until I said otherwise.

What was next?

It hit me like a lightning bolt, "We need to go back to my house! Old Man Johnson is in the basement! If my Dad didn't do anything to him other than store him down there then we can free him!"

Miss Jenkins agreed. We left the Director and my Dad secured to the building and took the captors van heading back to my home.

The drive was quiet. The bumps and dirt came and went. None of us spoke a word. Perhaps a moment of silence to cherish our victory or a dose of peace knowing we may find something horrid at my home.

Miss Jenkins broke the silence, "Children, Brute, hubby, when we get there I will enter first. That is a direct order. Once I clear the house, you all may enter and do as you please. I need you to understand this."

We all barked our agreements out, especially Brute.

We pulled up twenty minutes later, the front of my home. The place I grew up and lived in for ten years. The place I saw horrible things and the place that brought back so many memories, good and bad.

It was time to go in.

Miss Jenkins readied herself and approached the door.

I was so exhausted I didn't have the strength to scan for danger or people. She would have to do it the old fashioned way.

"One lapse in judgment could result in a catastrophe."
