The past comes knocking

JASON

I can't put my head around anything, it's been a 100yrs already, It couldn't have been a lie, I carried her in my hands, I mourned her, I buried her,

" show me" Micheal says,

"what?" I turn sideways to look at him,

"If it's so hard, whatever is eating you up, if it's so serious then fucking look at me"

I knew what he meant, it wasn't as simple as looking at him. The eye is the window to the soul, if you looked deep enough into a person's eyes, look beyond what is on the surface, allow yourself to get lost in the depths, you could have a glimpse of the soul, but it could destroy you. You would see and feel and become one with the person whose soul you decided to look into, you could lose yourself in it.

Looking into a human was easier, we could wield certain control over them, just by connecting with their souls, it was kind of hypnotic, they remember nothing once the connection is broken. But looking into a vampire was more... Complex, both parties have to consent to it, and you could only be privy to information that he or she wishes to share, plus it drained a lot out of both parties.

"I don't know Mike, I don't know what's going on"

" Show me," he says again, more firm this time, almost commanding, I Know he is losing his patience, Micheal has never been very patient, but is it right to let him see?

I care about him too much to hurt him, and keeping this away from him will hurt him, especially if it's what I think it is, oh god

" Okay then" I give in

I look straight into his blue eyes, he had the most beautiful eyes I've seen on a guy before, gentle and warm. I look into the warmth, wrapping myself around it, feeling it give in to me, I dig deeper, trying to find the end of the warmth, trying to make it one with me.

MICHAEL

I feel myself falling into a sea of red, scorching hot red, he had just fed, human blood, the warmth of the blood was hot to my cold skin, I kept falling until I was no longer enveloped by a sea of redness and nothing. I was in a field, and it was snowing, everything was covered in white, a young lady lay in the middle of the snow, almost covered by it. I move forward trying to get a better view of her, but opposite me also moving forwards was... Jason?

He looked different, rougher, he had long hair that fell to his shoulders, he stopped beside her just as I stop. I move my eyes from him to the lady on the floor then I freeze, Bella?

No this can't be, this wasn't right, I watch as Jason looks at her and squints his eyes raising a hand to brush the side of his chin, I recognized that action, he did that whenever he was making a big decision, 'what's going on I ask? ' I know it's futile because he can't hear me, I squat down and touch her, she's frozen, her lips are pale and her heartbeat, was almost gone, almost. She's still alive but barely so, Jason brushes the hair from her face, then I watch as he bites his wrist and pours his blood into her mouth, holding it open, I step back as reality hits me, and then I feel the force yanking me back out, the red, the heat and then I was out, back in the car and Jason was gone.

I climb out of the car and sniff the air for him, he isn't far, I can feel him, but I don't go to him. The front door opens and Bella steps out waving at me

"Is everything okay?" She asks as I walk over to her.

I wrap my hands around her, and pull her closer to me, gently stroking her hair with my hands, she rests her head on my chest and I let out a breath, I had no idea what was going on or what I saw, but the mere thought of losing her was tearing at my heart.

"What's going on" I whisper too low for Bella to hear but I Know he'd hear

" I have a theory, but it's been a long time since something like that happened" he replies, sounding choked.

I know he's in pain, but why, I still didn't know

"You have to tell me everything," I say again,

" What's going on, did something happen between you and your friend? Was it because of me?, Did he leave? " Bella asks searching my face for answers.

I shake my head, and pinch her cheek

" what gave you that stupid idea?" I ask amused, how did she conclude that Jason leaving was somehow her fault, but then again I guess I see it.

"Then where is he? He left after he saw me, he got angry and stormed off"

" It wasn't you," I say, why does she find a way to blame herself for everything that goes wrong.

"Jason is just having mood swings," I say knowing full well he could hear me, as I pull her into the house.

"Ass" he hisses out

"Come in when you're ready and bring a better attitude, I won't take it lightly with you if you make her feel sad again" I throw back smiling at myself.
