X: New Perspective

Matthew Harris

Matthew guessed that this school would be another one of those he went last time. After when they found out he was gay, everybody became so cynical about it. They all had the same narrative: Strong looking men like you shouldn't be chasing for the other men.

He hated it all. At first, he was not really sure about his own sexuality. Despite his built and handsome face, insecure people just want to bring him down by spreading a rumor about him liking other guys.

Matthew loathed those people. As much he did, turns out they were right. Jokes on them though. He kept his cool and remained unfazed. Due to his lack of response, it all died down pretty quickly. Schoolmates were suspicious of those who spread the false information.

Matthew kept his head up high and did not bother to lower himself to their level by clarifying it all. He was not obliged to do so and he did not feel the need to. His parents were one thing and school was another.

It was best to just let it all go. When his parents finally called it quits with their failed marriage, he was able to breathe in their household. His mother insisted that he should go with her and be with her boyfriend while, the father did not add as much pressure as his mother did.

His father was surprisingly single. He did not bother to know all about the details in their lives because he knows the fact that he would be able to fit in anyways. Matthew is aware that he is the result of a broken promise, plans and marriage,

"I'll go with Grandma Star." His mother did not expect his decision. She thought with full confidence that he would go with her but alas, Matthew chose Grandma Star. Who wouldn't want to go with his grandma? Even when they spent not a lot of time together, he knows by heart that she will take care of him more than his parents ever could.

Grandma Star is his comfort person. She was the first person to know about his secret and even when he confessed over the phone. The old lady was happy and would love to hear more from him if he would ever have the time to visit her.

"I'm not against you choosing him hon, but is there a reason why you won't choose me?" His mother pleaded for an explanation. He flatly said the truth he kept within. "I hate your boyfriend and if he is in the house that we are both will be living in, I will not stay longer than five minutes."

His father tried to hold back a snort. He too, hated his ex-wife's obnoxious boyfriend. He acknowledges the fact that he was not the best husband but he knew that he was so much better than that itty-bitty boyfriend.

His mother was left speechless. She just did not know what to say at the moment. "No offense dad, but I would prefer to be with Grandma Star this time. I'm sure she needs company." Matthew faced his father.

"No problem son. If you ever want to come home to me, my door is always open for you." His father assured. "We should get your things ready; I'll take you to her." Matthew smiled. 'Finally, someone who understands.'

After their conversation, he and his father drove across the small town Grandma Star is staying. Matthew did not make amends with his mothers and just said his piece. There, he can have a fresh start and have a taste of a new life.
