Chapter 5
Veronica and Arek were now outside the building waiting for chauffeur to bring the car. Veronica noticed a black shiny car entering the front of the building. She immediately guessed the car model was Maybach 62. She wondered who would be the lucky person travelling in that car. The car costs a fortune.
Suddenly the car was coming near and near. And it stopped in front of Veronica.
"Ms. Ray, get in." Arek ordered
Veronica's jaw dropped. She looked shocked. She was staring at Arek and then the car. She repeated looking both of them.
"Ms. Ray, you seem surprise." Arek asked amused
Veronica ignored him and muttered "I guess I am the lucky one."
Arek heard it and looked at her before speaking "Excuse me?"
Veronica ignored him and was about to enter in the passenger seat when Arek interrupted "Where do you think you are going Ms. Ray?"
Veronica looked at him puzzled. She thought she did something again. She looked at him scared this time. She was not ready to get insulted in front of the building where there are lot of people. Arek noticed this. This time he spoke politely "Ms. Ray, get in the back seat."
Veronica nodded and got into the back seat. Arek too joined her.
As soon as veronica entered, she was impressed with the interior. Wooden color everywhere. And everything looked classy. She was busy looking here and there when chauffeur interrupted "Where to Mr. Alden?"
"Take me to the nearest clothing store." Arek replied
Chauffeur started driving.
Veronica gave Arek are-you-out-of-your-mind look.
"Seriously, he didn't let me study the file because he wanted to shop. He is seriously insane self obsessed guy." Veronica muttered to herself
"Did you just say something?" Arek enquired amused
Veronica ignored him and started going through the second file.
"Ms. Ray, till when are you planning to ignore me? You know that I am your boss. Right?" Arek asked amused
"Of course, the evil boss." Veronica muttered to herself and suppressed her smile. Then she looked at Arek. He was looking at her in amusement waiting for her answer.
"I am very well aware of it that you are my boss. And I am not ignoring you. You told me to study these files before meeting the investors. I still have one file left. So I was studying it." Veronica replied with a straight face
"Ms. Ray, are you elder or younger in your house?" Arek asked
"Younger." Veronica replied
"That's the reason. I see." Arek replied
"What do you mean?" Veronica asked
"That's why you are like this." Arek pointed towards her
"Like what?" Veronica asked again confused
"Spoiled brat." Arek answered amused
Veronica looked at him in anger. If looks could kill, Arek would have been lying six feet under.
She realized that she is going to ignore Arek in her entire internship period so she quickly averted her gaze.
Arek waited for her counter but nothing came from her, instead chauffeur spoke "Mr. Alden we are here."
Veronica saw the store name Black Lapel. It was the biggest custom made formal showroom in Manhattan. And the most expensive one too.
Veronica stepped out of the car.
Arek and Veronica were standing in front of the showroom's main gate. Suddenly a man came running towards them.
"Good afternoon Mr. Alden. How may I assist you today?" The man greeted Arek and then he waved at Veronica saying 'Hi'. Veronica too responded him with the same gesture.
"Owen, I actually came to give you this." Arek said pointing towards the bag that the chauffeur held.
Arek continued "These are the three piece suit I bought from here. These have coffee stains, thanks to someone." Arek spoke playfully while speaking the last line.
Veronica ignored him.
"Mr. Alden, you came to give this for dry-cleaning. You could have asked someone to do it." Owen spoke
"Its fine Owen. Actually I had to come here so I thought bringing it myself." Arek replied
"So Mr. Alden, what would you like to have?" Owen asked
"I want a pair of black trousers for the lady." Arek said pointing towards Veronica
Veronica stood there completely shocked. Her jaws dropped. She stood there dumbstrucked.
Arek looked at Veronica and spoke "Ms. Ray, its none of my business what someone wears.And it doesn't concerns me either. But till you are working with me as my secretary, wear something that fully covers you."
Veronica looked way more angrier by now.
'What the hell does he think he is? Who is he to tell me what to wear and what not to?' Veronica thought.
She was about to speak when Arek continued "It would be wrong for me to comment on anyone's dressing style. But it would be appropriate if you wear clothes that covers you fully. As my secretary you need to be everywhere with me. You will meet lots of people. And you don't know what kind of person they are. Plus I don't want an unnecessary drama coming in between my business deal." Arek explained
Veronica was too shock to reply now.
'This psycho, evil, manipulative, bastard brought her here for her own shopping.' Veronica thought.
She was looking at Arek while trying to speak but nothing came out of her mouth. She opened her mouth to speak but then closed it. She was about to speak when Owen interrupted "Ms. come with me. I will show you some of my best collection."
Veronica looked at him. But before she could reply he dragged her with him.
Owen showed some of the formal trousers. Veronica was very impressed with his designs.
'I never knew that a simple formals can have some style' Veronica thought
"Ms. , why don't you try this one." Owen spoke while handling her one of his creation he picked out of all.
Veronica took it and tried it in a trail room.
"Ms. the fitting is fine?" Owen asked
"Its Veronica firstly. And secondly the fitting is fabulous." Veronica replied to him and came out of the trail room.
"You look great Veronica." Owen spoke while admiring his creation
"Of course I will look great, afterall I am wearing one of the best creation of the best designer." Veronica replied
Owen blushed after listening the compliment.
"Thanks Owen. I loved it." Veronica replied
Owen smiled at her and then both came towards Arek who was busy surfing his phone.
"Mr. Alden here she is." Owen spoke to Arek
Arek looked up to Veronica and nodded.
"Take this." Arek handed his credit card to Owen
"Mr. Alden, you don't need to pay for me. Since this is my shopping I will pay for it." Veronica interrupted Arek
Arek gave her are-you-out-of-your-mind look.
"Ms. Ray, do you know how much it costs?" Arek asked a bit frustrated
"No I don't. But whatever the cost is, I will bear it." Veronica replied to Arek and then turned to Owen
"Owen can you please tell me how much these beautiful creation is for?" Veronica asked Owen
Owen looked at Arek unsure of what to do. When Arek didn't say anything then he spoke "Its for 500 dollars."
Veronica knew that it would be expensive. But she looked flustered after actually listening it.
She opened her purse and took out her credit card and handed it to Owen.
"I think it will cover that much." Veronica spoke to Owen
Owen took the card from her and swiped it. Then he handed her the receipt and the check and the bag which contained her pencil skirt.
Veronica took it and thanked him.
Arek left from there and Veronica followed.
Chauffeur was waiting in the car. Both Arek and Veronica took their seats and chauffeur started driving.
Neither Arek nor Veronica uttered anything.
Veronica started going through the files.
Chauffeur informed that they have reached the office of investors.
Arek stepped out of the car and Veronica followed.
A man came running towards Arek and they did handshake while speaking " Welcome Mr. Alden."
Then the guy came to Veronica and let out a hand for handshake. Veronica took it and did the handshake.
"Please come in." He gestured us to enter in the building
Both Arek and Veronica followed him. They finally entered the conference room. Veronica noticed that people where already settled there and was waiting for them.
Veronica was standing beside Arek when he told her "Note everything you see here. From people speaking to their gestures. Think it like its you test. Its your first step to enter in media department. You want to go in that department then you should be knowledgeable enough to know that what the person is saying and thinking is same. Or is it a bluffing or saying the truth. Note everything that goes in here. If you are successful you will be one step closer to the work you want to go for." Arek told her and she nodded
Then Veronica walked away from him and took the corner most seat from where she can see everyone and she can hear well.
Meeting started and Veronica started making notes.
Every now and then Arek was looking at her. She was engrossed in the meeting. Arek was great at his work. She finally understood why he was successful.
He was mean, rude and arrogant. The way everyone described him was perfect. He exactly knew what to say and how to say. Soon the meeting got over.
Everyone started leaving the conference room. Veronica came and stood in front of Arek.
"Did you do what I asked you?" Arek asked Veronica
Veronica nodded.
"Okay, we will discuss it in my office. Lets go." Arek informed her.
Ride back to the office was silent.
As Veronica and Arek entered in Arek's office, Arek asked her about the notes she prepared in the meeting.
Veronica explained the entire meeting scenario to Arek. Arek didn't say anything. He usually nodded on few things. Veronica completed her report.
"You did a good work today. You can call it a day for today." Arek spoke to Veronica
Veronica nodded and left.
She checked the time. Tea time was over. She searched for Lina. But she didn't find her.
She decided to call her and tell her that she is leaving for home. Lina picked up the call and Veronica informed her about her being late for the tea time. They exchanged few words and then Veronica hung up the call.
She then called Navi to check whether she is free or not. Navi picked up the call in two rings.
"Hey, are you free?" Veronica asked
"Yeah, I got free about an hour ago. I was waiting for your call. You are free now?" Navi asked
"Yeah lets leave then. Meet me at the parking." Veronica spoke and ended the call.
They both met at the parking lot and the Navi drove and they left for the home.
