Can't breathe

Klaus's POV

Today I had to have lunch quickly and spend the remaining time in the library because I skipped breakfast this morning. The stuffy cafeteria was booming with laughter and I looked up to see everyone looking at a girl in braces, a typical kind of girl which the students in this school would call a nerd, standing in front of Brownie. That's when I realized Brownie probably said something mean to her. This girl.

"Oh and next time before you come up to me, make sure you have clean braces." Brownie spat.

That wasn't so nice. Yes true, the girl had clogged braces and that was nasty but there would have been a thousand better ways to state it. I knew Brownie was a pest but I didn't think she was that mean.

Immediately, I angrily walked up to Brownie's table, dropped my reply to her letter and walked out to the library where Stormie was already waiting. Ugh.

"Hey brother." The witch of a sister I have sung.

"Bring your book already." I said blankly knowing why she was here. Then all of a sudden, she turned into the stray cat she was and started kicking and whacking me with a book.

"I told you to edit the essay to my level of understanding!" She sneered and was out of sight before I could grab her arm. It's official now that I have a rabid dog as a sister. I shook my head at her craziness and rubbed my temples as I went into the library.

What's taking Stormie so long? I was waiting for her in my car after school wishing I could take off without her and give the excuse of forgetting but clearly, she had her hickeys all over my dashboard and front seat.

Impatiently, I got out of the car and wall into the school where I see Stormie talking to...Brownie? She better not be bullying my sister. I walk over to them and swiftly grab on Stormie's arm, yanking her away to the car.

"Hey hey! I was on my way when I bumped into her, sorry if I kept long." Stormie apologizes half-heartedly.

"What did she want?" We sat in the car and I drove away.

"Umm I don't know she just said hey."

"She said, hey?" I was confused. She never approached anyone nicely.

"Yeah, I like her."

"No you don't. You don't even know her. The meanest irritating creature alive...just like you!" I almost yelled at Stormie when I recalled what they both did during lunch.

"Mean? Ha...well as far as I'm concerned, she was sticking up for you today when she saw me hit you at the library." She stated.

"What, who?" Again I was confused.

"Dahlia duhh." She rolls her eyes.

"Psst. You're drunk." Still not believing Stormie. She's mistaken. Dahlia? So that's her name. I almost forgot.

"Then that makes you high." She shrugged. The car was silent till we got home.

_______

Not now. It was happening again even though all my windows were shut tight. The weather had become absurdly colder during the night and this had taken a toll on my bare chest. Breathing became much more difficult and it felt as if someone was sitting on my chest. My right wrist also felt numb due to the coldness. Suddenly, the jabbing pain I hadn't felt for a while now came back into my wrist.

I wrestle with the sheets I'm tangled in and finally get out of bed to grab a shirt and an extra blanket to fight the cold and crawl back into bed. This was not a nice feeling. At all. Me and the cold weather, we are not friends.

Morning seemed like it took days to arrive. There was mild pain all over my body. Felt like I was recovering from a beating. I wore the thickest sweatshirt I had over my shirt. My desert boots were high enough to keep my feet warm. I rushed downstairs to have a hot drink.

"Oh Junior. You don't look too well. Are you okay." Momma said sadly and touched my cheek.

"I'm fine Ma. Just mild pains." I place my hand on hers. I finish my coffee and leave for school. The weather was much warmer now than last night.

At school I settle at my desk and place my water bottle on my table with my earphones in my ears, resting my head against the backrest of my chair, my eyes closed. I was still in a bit of pain.

I stiffened in my seat when I felt cold water splash and trickle down my neck onto my chest and finally my abdomen. I looked up only to meet Brownie's smirking face. Gosh. Of all days why did she decide to do this to me today when I was protecting my chest from the cold.

Immediately she walked away, she slipped on the water she spilled. Like a reflex action, I caught her before she fell, then I felt a pang in my chest.

I loosened my grip on her and clutched my chest and walked out of the class as fast as I could.

My upper body was shivering when I got to my car. I turned up the up the heater in my car and drove home. Stormie and Momma had left home before I got there. I went straight to my room, got changed and climbed into bed as the pain got worse.

After some time I called Stormie.

"Junior?"

"Hey, could you get my bags from class and bring them home with you after school? I'm home now, not too well." I ask.

"I'm coming home." She was serious.

"No, stay...so you could ride home with a friend or Jake Owen." I tease.

"Shut up prick, stay safe." She barked at me.
