Behind the façade

Max was the only person in this hellhole you appreciated with your entire being. How they managed to keep such a bubbly personality while working with someone like Silias was beyond you. Over the few days you've been here, they were the only one to check up on you, not to mention, they also happened to save you before anything could go wrong during the last mission.

"Yo! I was wondering when you would finally show up." A figure exclaimed before hopping on to your back causing you to stumble a bit, but you managed to keep you're balance. You looked behind to see Max on your back with a goofy smile. "Boss informed me we had another mission together, aren't cha glad?"

"Glad that the mission is with you? Yes. Glad that I even have to do this? No. I'd much rather stay here counting the amount of people that walk in and out." You sighed, gently putting them down. "So, what do we have to do this time?"

Max dragged you towards the papers placed out on the desk, "Long story short, We've got to eliminate one of boss's rivals and see if She's got anything in interest in her office. We have about a week or so to figure out how to carry the plan out. This time, Martha will be helping us out from behind the scenes. Our main objective is to Eliminate the rival first and foremost." They said handing you a paper with the details of the Lady. "Grace Lowell, She's a rather well known business figure, owns a company passed down from her father, Lowell's cooperation , famous for their contributions towards medicine. Another long story short, it's a cover up from what's really going on. Grace has decided she wanted to further advance medicine and the scientific field, even if it meant sacrificing a human or two."

"Why me? This sounds way out of my league, not to mention, I doubt there's a way for us to figure out how to get in without looking like complete creeps." You asked raising an eyebrow, was this a test for you loyalty, or was Silias insane enough to send you on such a mission?

"That's where you come in. Martha can forge papers to get you a job in there, not to mention you're family name adds to your credibility. Though, you'll shine brightest when we have to face her. As a women who's twisted enough to carry out such experiments, she'll have tons weaknesses for tainted sorrow to take advantage."

You frowned at the idea of mentioning you're family name to go through with the plan but you had no choice to agree." I see. When do I start? More importantly what Job will i be applying for?" You asked, looking at Max who shrugged at the question.

"I don't the exact details about that, you'll have to ask Martha, She's in the room down the hall towards the left, you'll recognise it...I think."

You nodded heading out of the room. This mission didn't seem right to you. Why exactly would Silias be going after Lowell, last time you checked, he had nothing to do medicine or science. Perhaps it's a personal? What could she have that was enough for Silias to deem her as a threat?

You knocked on the door to signal to Martha that you were coming in.

You walked into a rather dark room, the only reason you saw Martha was because of the light from the monitor screens.

"Glad to see you're still alive." She said moving her hair out of her eyes, bringing her attention towards you. "Thankfully, you're family name hold a lot of importance in this area, so it was rather easy for me to do what I needed. You've applied for the position of assistant to Grace Lowell, meaning as long as you play along with her twisted ideals, you'll be able to get the information you need and stay alive and yes, She has disposed of employees for not agreeing with her ideals."

"Alright. Is there anything I need to know?"

"Yes, you'll be staying in a separate place and you will be monitored, so don't get you're hope's to high. You'll be starting tomorrow, So I'd advice you to rest. That concludes everything I have to say to you."

Well, this was it, starting tomorrow, you'd have to work for a mad scientist wannabe.
