chapter 12

So. Tired. I yawned, quickly putting on my uniform after climbing out of bed.

I was just about to walk out when Mom came in, talking on her phone. "Hang on, she's awake." She removed the phone from her ear, covering the speaker. "Emma, it’s Audrey," she said, handing the phone over to me.

Skylar's mom? "Hello, Audrey, it’s Emelie. Is everything alright?"

"Emelie! Do you know where Skylar is?"

“Huh? Isn't she at home?”

“No! I had gone to wake her up this morning, but she wasn't in her room. Her bed hadn't been slept in. I know she never, ever makes her bed. Her closet was empty! Everything was gone! I called her a couple of times but she never answered. It was then that I noticed the piece of paper on her bed. It read:

“Hi, Mom, Dad,

“I have left this stupid town. I am so sick of this place and everyone here.

“I have gone to LA with my boyfriend. He gets me. I’m going to be a big star.

“Don't bother looking for me. I'm not coming back to this shithole.
