The Thief's Most Likely Identity (Day 1-END)

"Well, with those two extra clues given and the testimonies given out earlier..." Detective W deduced, "There can only be one logical choice."

"No shit! I'm thinking it's Mr. Medico here! Who else got the strength to daze Priest Morgan for a second and get out quick? It got to be him!" Ha-Eun snapped. "You say the most obvious things sometimes, W!"

Mr. Medico frowned, his face looking crestfallen. Detective W shook his head. "No, no, no, Ha-Eun. Stop getting too excited about this! Sometimes the most obvious thing isn't the answer!"

Ha-Eun scrunched her eyes and spat. "Oh, really, W? Who do you think did it, then?! You better give a satisfactory answer!"

"All right. I will go through my logic," Detective W continued. "Here we go..."

"First things first, it's obvious that one of them lied. One of them had gone to the changing room. The next clue comes from Rebecca's answer: Stainless steel. Didn't Priest Morgan say that it was pure gold?"

You nodded. "But, that could mean anything. Brass, with enough copper, will look like gold, too. Stainless steel with color treatment would look like gold, too. What are you getting at, Boss?"

Detective W nodded. "You are right, my friend. However, for most people, they would instantly assume brass or gold. Because, stainless steel, in its usual form, is grayish. So, yeah, that was my first suspicion point. Remember the tiny yellow chips we found on the floor?"

You nodded. "Yeah. It was weird seeing gold chips on the floor."

"We can assume that's the gold paint chip from the chalice. Whoever sent Priest Morgan this chalice clearly did a shoddy job at painting the chalice. Pure gold, my foot," Detective W said.

"My next point is that one of them had the lavender smell. Even you noticed that, right?" Detective W asked.

You agreed. "Yeah, that was kind of a weird smell, especially in the changing room."

"After that, it's the sports. I get why Ha-Eun would assume Medico. Medico has practiced Dutch Kickboxing and Weightlifting. Plus the fact that he's a male, he could instantly knock Priest Morgan out. However, we tend to see females as weak, which is certainly not the case. Rebecca had done boxing and ballet, right? A good punch from her could do the deed."

Ha-Eun absorbed it all in. "I see. I didn't consider that."

Detective W flashed a thumbs up. "Thanks to you guys, we found the final, conclusive clue. This cloth is the final, conclusive clue!"

"This cloth? What is this cloth supposed to do?" Ha-joon asked.

"Feel it. Why do you think it's softer than usual cloth? Why is it so clean, considering that the changing room was kind of a mess?" Detective W urged.

"No idea," Ha-joon shook his head. "Explain please, Oppa."

"Good. This happens to be microfiber cloth-which is used for cleaning spectacles! Glasses! Cloths that wipe glasses can't be rough! It also can't accumulate dust and debris easily!"

"Oh!" Suddenly, everything snapped in your mind. "The only one who wears glasses... is Ms. Rebecca!"

Detective W nodded. "It's all coming together. The reason she's putting her hands in her jacket pocket is obvious now. Rebecca, you didn't hurt your hand yesterday right? You hurt your hand just then, and that chalice is still in the pocket, right?"

Rebecca blinked furiously, her eyes looking at every direction. She pulled out her trembling arm. On there was bloodied knuckles. A scarlet trail dripped from the chalice. The bottom of the chalice had a tiny gray spot.

"Why? I just... wanted to get rich... I don't even believe in God anyways..." she mumbled.

You took a closer look at her knuckles. Tiny glass shards were embedded on the wound.

Rebecca held the chalice up, threatening to smash it. "If I can't have it and be rich, no one will!" she growled.

Priest Morgan, hearing that, dashed right in front of her and delivered the heaviest left cross you've ever seen. Rebecca flew ten feet in the air and crumpled on the floor.

Priest Morgan shook Detective W's hands with vigor. "Thanks, W! Without you, the holy chalice will be missing! Don't worry! I will talk with the police! Today is your off day, right?"

"Yeah! You got it, man! I hate doing criminal investigations on my break time! Check with her for her motive, please?" Detective W high-fived Priest Morgan.

"Certainly!" Priest Morgan exclaimed.

You spend the rest of the time, up until 2:00 PM, helping Detective W organize everything in the idyllic church.

'A day well spent', you reflected.
