Ambush-2

Alas!

Vladis and Camy were also attacked, and Vladis effort to save them actually turned futile, as they still got attacked in the end.

Vladis and Camy were in the opposite direction of Rune and Resel, so they actually couldn't hear the fighting going on the other side of the forest. They were tiptoeing when Camy suddenly asked, "Why were you heading towards the end of the city?"

Vladis wanted to tell her about all the chaos so he could warn her but preferred not to. "Council work."

"Why were you going to the market?"

Before she could answer, Vladis suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled her towards him. Her nose hit at his hard chest, and she was dumbfounded on the turn of situations. When she looked up at him, she could see that he was like a tiger, ready to pounce on anyone. Vladis was looking at Camy while talking when he saw an arrow coming towards them. He could see that the direction of the arrow was towards Camy, so he blocked the arrow with his sword. It was in seconds when Vladis pulled out the sword and sliced the arrow. And while holding Camy to look for more arrows. As if sensing her gaze, he looked at her. Their faces were only at a small distance length away, Camy recovered and pushed him slightly.

Vladis also loosened his grip on her waist. He warned her, "Be careful. I think someone is trying to attack us. They might be robbers."

Though he told her they were robbers, he doesn't feel the same. It was like someone intentionally attacking them to block their path. But the question was, Who? He pushed this thought aside and told Camy not to lower her guard. That's when she noticed the sword in Vladis's hand, and an arrow broke into two pieces on the ground. They moved forward only to be met by three Siberian wolves surrounding them, looking bloodthirsty.

By looking at their eyes, Vladis realized that they are spellbound, and they only wanted blood that would satisfy their thirst. He tried to perform spells that lower their danger, but it couldn't happen. He moved Camy behind him and was in his attacking position. Two Siberian wolves rushed and pounced on them. Huskies tried to bite them. While one of the huskies left behind attempted to attack Camy.

Though being a martial artist, she dodged his attacks and bites, but she still struggled hard to protect herself as well as him. Vladis handled the two wolves well, but when he notices Camy, he rescues her. Camy thought that she should call for help, so she started running and looked for any kind of help nearby, or maybe while running, she could search for Rune.

She desperately searched for help. As she was busy digging, the wolf attacked her, but she was instantly pushed away and was rescued by Vladis. Using his small dagger, he pierced the wolf's heart and it died on the spot. Similarly, he killed the other two. Camy saw Vladis's hands dyed in warm red blood. It was not her first time seeing blood, still fear crept inside her heart. Vladis used the plant leaves as a tissue to wipe his hands and dragged Camy with him.

"We need to get out of here, or else monsters will come here soon. The smell of blood will attract several predators, so we better hurry."

Soon they reached the same point where the carriage was parked. He asked Camy to sit inside the carriage as there was no one nearby, and it was parked in a hidden spot. He didn't fear that she would be attacked here, but he gave her his dagger for the sake of unknown circumstances. "Stay put here. I will go search for Rune and Resel and will bring them back safely."

"No, I will go with you," Camy resisted.

Vladis sighed. He knew it wouldn't be easy.

"If you are present there, then I won't be able to fight with my full strength as my mind will subconsciously fear for your safety. Don't be stubborn, Camy. Please," He begged her.

Camy knew Vladis was correct, but how can she let it go? Her big brother is in danger; how can she leave him.

Vladis understood Camy's predicament. "I know you fear for his safety, but you need to be safe for his peace. I promised him that I would keep you safe so please, let me keep my promise."

Finally, Camy relented. "Fine. I will stay here, but you need to make one promise with me too."

Vladis was perplexed, but he still gave in. "Tell me."

"You need to promise me that you will come back safe and alive with my big brother and Resel."

Vladis chuckled when he herald it. "Alright," He patted her head lovingly.

Soon Vladis disappeared into the forest. An hour passed when finally Vladsi returned. Camy heard the footsteps, but she didn't dare come out. They could be robbers, too, so she maintained her guard and gripped the dagger tightly.
