Traces of Affection

Wei Wei felt an uneasiness in her heart. The smile from her lips had faded and she walked slowly behind the hostess, approaching with small steps, the two gents sitting at the table.

This other man was younger than Brother Tian, he was about her age, what was the purpose for his presence here today, she didn't like him being involved in their private matter.

"Mr. Pei, your other guest has arrived, I will inform the waiter to come and serve your drinks." Said the hostess, then left the party of three and returned to reception.

As soon as Wei Wei approached the table, Pei Lightian rose and pulled the chair next to him, asking the girl to take a seat. It has been already two weeks since he last saw her. She looked weak and thin, she had lost weight. Although her face was covered by make-up, he could still see her tired and sad eyes. His heart constricted and stopped beating seeing her like this. A sharp pain was tormenting him inside. His girl, his most beloved girl, what had he done.

"Wei Wei this is my young cousin, Chu Nan" Said the man in a shaky voice. He cleared his throat and continued. "You two are close in age!"

After his last sentence, Wei Wei's uneasiness increased ten fold, what was this, a matchmaking session. The weak girl felt how the ground was running from under her feet. She gathered all her strength and tried to hold back her tears. She bit her bottom lip and replied politely.

"Nice to meet you!"

"Like wise!" Replied Chu Nan with a smile.

"I hope you two get to know each other better..." Said Pei Lightian.

"What's the meaning of this?! I thought you called me here to talk about us" Wei Wei asked dryly. She looked at Pei Lightian, trying to find if there were any traces of affection left for her.

"Wei Wei, there can't be an 'us'..." Said the man, not able to finish his sentence. Wei Wei instantly rose up and threw the water from her glass in his face.

"How dare you...!" The girl shouted at him, but as soon as she opened her mouth her vision became blurry, a deafening sound resounded in her ears and her knees had just given up, she blacked out and collapsed on the floor.

Pei Lightian tried his best to catch the falling girl, but was unable to reach her in time, so he threw his body on the floor, allowing the girl to at least fall on him.

"Wei Wei!! Wei Wei!! Please wake up!!" He was calling the girl. Chu Nan froze in his chair.

"I will take her to the hospital" Said Pei Lightian to his younger cousin, while lifting the unconscious girl in his arms. He put her in his car and drove in a hurry to the hospital.

At the emergency room the doctors took Wei Wei away and the man headed to the reception to register her admission. The receptionist soon realised that the girl had just been released not long ago, but now she was back.

"Mr. this young Miss has just been released from hospital, are you following the instructions left by the doctor correctly at home?"

When Pei Lightian heard the nurse he was crushed instantly, her phrase was resounding in his head not able to comprehend... perhaps he had misheard her.

"Pardon?!"

The receptionist looked at him inquisitively. Maybe this man wasn't related to her and he wasn't aware of her health condition.

"What is your relationship with the patient?" The nurse at the reception asked.
