Last Days

Lu Ye Ze was stunned, he realised instantly that she must have heard him, when he was speaking with Dong Zai in the corridor just now. He couldn't avoid the truth anymore. He pulled a chair and sat down in front of her. He let out a deep breath and casted his head down. After a short silence he said.

"You were injected with a poison called black widow. The way it behaves... is that at first it will sharpen your senses, making you aware of everything around you... and inside you... and then..." The man's eyes instantly welled up with tears. He held his breath.

"And then what?" Asked the girl impatiently. After a while, Lu Ye Ze exhaled the air that he was holding and squeezed his fingers into fists.

"Then... then it will attack your vital organs..."

Jo was shocked, she couldn't believe that her father in law did this to her.

"Where is the antidote?" Jo asked hurriedly, although she already knew, that there wasn't one.

Lu Ye Ze panicked, his heart twisted in pain in his chest, how can he tell his wife that there isn't an antidote, how can he admit in front of her that she is going to die, damn it, he won't allow her to die. He felt so helpless at this moment, but if worse came to worse, he decided here and now, that he is going to go together with her, he will hold her tight in his embrace and then they will succumb to this horrible faith together. Tears started falling down his face.

Jo leaned towards him and cupped his face in her little hands. She lifted his head up and looked him in the eyes. She could see clearly his despair.

Lu Ye Ze lifted his gaze and tried to assure her, the best he could, that everything will be alright. "I have employed all the science labs in China and some overseas, to produce an antidote. We will make it, I won't let anything and anyone to hurt you!" Jo looked at him and although deep down she knew there was no way out, somehow she felt comforted by his words, she trusted him this much.

"How long do I have?"

Lu Ye Ze moved on to the bed next to her and lifted the frail girl in his arms, setting her on his lap. He held her tightly in his embrace, close to his pained heart.

"It's better if you don't know!" He gently whispered under his breath. Jo cuddled in his embrace rubbing her head on his chest. "Then I don't want to spend my last days here, in this hospital bed!" The girl lifted her head and looked up at man who was holding her. Tears falling down her pale face. "Darling, please take me away!" She pleaded in a shaky voice.

The man bowed his head and kissed her softly on her forehead. "As you wish my love!"

Lu Ye Ze mobilised his whole team and planned every minute for the next 48 hours, they might be the last hours of their lives, so he had to make sure they were spent the best way possible. He quickly signed the discharge papers and took Jo away. In the parking lot, a silver Volvo xc90 was parked near the exit and a bodyguard was standing next to the car. Lu Ye Ze, took the keys from him and opened the car's passenger door for Jo, then he got into the driver's seat. When Lu Ye Ze started the engine, Jo instantly covered her years, she could hear the injectors of the engine pumping up and down like they were in her head, even the oil flushing through the pipes, then burning and transforming in to exhausts. If she stayed to listen all this, she will soon go mad.
