Distractions

Dylan didn't have to tell Cole how he fucked up he already knew it. At first when she came into his office, she looked all sweet and innocent. It made him think back to a time where he once was, or a time that was close enough. He knew from the very beginning he wasn't taking her offer. He couldn't be the one who destroyed that light in her eyes. He wanted to let her down softly but he had to make sure she didn't believe she stood a chance. If she believed that maybe she would never come back, maybe he could save her from this.

So he cruelly told her to get out without even listening to her. For most people it would have worked. Most people would have cursed at him and walked out but they would be safe, she would be safe. Instead she sat there not moving, did she not get the picture? Would he have to be even more cruel to her? Before he could think up something else to say to her she got up. He thanked her not out loud, no but inside his head. Thanking her for leaving not that she deserved it, not that she deserved to walk out with a broken heart. She would be alive, she deserved to be happy and that wasn't here.

He watched her back as she started to walk away, when the door to the side of him opened and Dylan walked through. No come on Dylan had the worst timing, shooting a glare at him to leave things alone. finally looked back at a sad girl who was walking out. Then she started to turn, he couldn't look at her face, he didn't know if he could hurt her again. He didn't like to be cruel to people who didn't deserve it. She turned around, and told him something he never heard directed towards him it was the truth. Most people were to afraid to tell them how they felt but she did.

It made him feel uneasy, but he couldn't look up. Maybe she would still go, but it only made her angrier, more honest, more hard to ignore. Telling him everything he ever wanted in a business partner loyalty, and fighting. Sadly it could never be her. He didn't know what else to do he was cruel, he ignored her. Yet she still was persistent, still stubborn. When she put her hands down on the paper he was so trying to destract himself with, he had no choice but to look at her. When he did, when he looked into her eyes he could tell she was afraid but that she wasn't giving up. He wanted to tell her what a good job she had done. Had she been older less innocent he would have hired her right then and there. Isn't that the whole point? She could do what she did because she was innocent.

She told him she was basically the best thing in the world, and if he let her go it would be the worst mistake of his life. No that is not the words that she said. Maybe not even fully what she meant but that is how he took it. She was right it turned to be the worst mistake he ever made. Even though he didn't want to he told her to get out. Ignoring her, and not letting her speak wasn't enough. Maybe listening to her, making her feel like she had a chance, and then taking it all away would do the trick, and it did.

Yet as the night drug on she was all that he could think about. She tormented his thoughts, he refused to take anymore customers for the day. He tried to focus on paperwork but it didn't help at all. All he could see was her terrified of him as she walked out. No matter how far he pushed it out of his mind it kept coming back. The strangest part of it all was he didn't need anybody for many, many years so why now? Why did he want to chase after her, beg her to come back, just to talk to him. He couldn't, he didn't even know her name, and maybe it was for the best. No he knew it was for the best even if it hurt like hell.

When Dylan and Cole got home neither of them said anything to each other. Chase was in the other room, he had well other stuff to deal with rather than be at the office today. It was a good thing that mean't he didn't have to see Cole turn into a fucking mess. Chase came in with blood on his shirt and pants. Bringing Cole back to reality he was no longer the type of man who could afford to have a sweet innocent girl like that.

"Hey guys, your home early." Only to look at the clock and realize it was later than he thought. "So how was work?"

Really, really Cole thought he had to ask this. Dylan just grinned as he pushed past chase, walking into the room that Chase had just been.

"What did I miss?"

"Nothing." Is all Cole said rolling his eyes to the subject. "What happened here?"

With the same response as he had given he had received from Chase. Ignoring the questions they both followed Dylan. Cole knowing Chase was to stubborn to give up asking, and Chase knowing Cole was to stubborn to tell left them both at a stand still. Both ready to kill Dylan for opening his mouth. Cole walked in to find a chair from there dinning room bloody and with ropes laying across it.

"Where is the body?"

"Taken care of." If Cole didn't want to talk about his day, than Chase didn't want to talk about his day either.

"What are you children, the both of you knock it off." Dylan glared at the other two.

This left Chase concerned more curious, Dylan had never stopped the two arguing, it's just what all three of them did, they argued like brothers.

"Are you guys going to tell me what happened or what?"

Searching Cole's face Chase realized Dylan was hesitant.

"There was this interview one of the greatest potential business deals and it was blown."

This irritated Chase, they needed more clients upon hearing Dylan say this he responded with a spat.

"How did you do it this time?"

This upset Dylan even more putting everyone on edge. Dylan was the calm rebel he didn't dwell on things like anger. "Why assume it was me, no all the credit goes to our friend Cole isn't that right."

Chase looked from Dylan, to Cole back to Dylan wondering what exactly happened.

"What he failed to leave out was the business deal came from a young women, who couldn't have been more than in her mid twenties."

Chases eyes got but as Cole said all this. All of this fighting and bickering over some women. No of course she wasn't getting hired, or whatever it is that she wanted that was a given. Yet the room felt different, he expected this from Dylan always bringing girls home, well he couldn't blame him on that part he did partake, and so did Cole. This was different he just didn't know why yet.

All of a sudden an alarm went off on his phone. The three of them all got used to the different alarm sounds that Chase was putting together. So they knew exactly which one this was, it was to their office. Chase grabbed his computer and they all sat at the table. Normally the police handled this sort of thing, and they got on doing bigger and better things, but this caught them in surprise. At least as much surprise as mafia boss alphas could. They had two sets of security in there, one set up by the business that any normal thief would get caught in and cops called. The second were hidden cameras, and alarms for when they had a smarter thief, smarter than most. And their little thief was.
