Chapter 2

I died in my sleep. It was dark in my bedroom as I heard the chapel bell toll. I walked up to the window and opened the curtain blocking my view of the outside of my house. There I saw an angel of death. A reaper of souls.

It reminded me of the stories mom used to tell us back when they were still alive. The story of Samael, and other stories similar to that. It reminded me of how she was so passionate about talking about him and now he is standing outside my house. He was wearing rags with a hood. He had pale skin and glowing yellow eyes that matched his long hair.

His gaze was nothing short of intimidating as he was as silent as the cemetery itself. I felt his deadly aura suffocating me as he took a step forward. He extended his arm toward me and signalled for me to come forward. So I approached the window and walked through the wall. When I was close to him, he spoke to me with the voice of an angel.

"Deadman, you have a lot of work to do," he said. I then hear a choir humming a tune from the sky as it starts to rain. Loud string instruments were playing throughout the land as we ascended to the sky. I saw Lightning light up the clouds around us. We continued to ascend until we were above the clouds. What I saw surprised me, we were in a different graveyard.

This graveyard had zombies breaking through the wet soil. "What's happening?" I asked. "Something that we are going to fix. See that person over there?" He said pointing at a man with bloodshot glowing red eyes. "Yeah, what about him?" I asked. "He is a lot like you. His life was like yours and he made a lot of people suffer." the reaper said.

"So what?" I asked. "I caused him to gain the power to raise the dead, now he has become a monster consumed in darkness. I have to make sure that never happens again while also preventing any more death than there should be deadman. I need to fix this mistake while also fixing you." he said. "Fixing me? there's no fixing me, I died along with the rest of my family the day of that fire." I said.

"That's not entirely true," he confessed. "Whatever do you mean?" I shouted in curiosity. "Your siblings live deadman," he said. My heart dropped. "You are bluffing," I said. "Here, let me show you," he said extending his hand.

Once I took it, we ascended into the sky once again. This time we were greeted by two figures brawling in the mud. One was a woman wearing black leather jeans, a sports vest and a bandana. The other was a man barely taller than myself. He was wearing red and black clothing with a matching mask.

"That's your siblings, Glen and Bella," He said. Something about this scene bothered me. "Why are they fighting?" I thought out loud. "Bella, like you, thought that the rest of the family died. After the fire started she ran into the forest and lived there for decades. I protected her from the shadows until she could take care of herself. She blamed Glen for starting the fire so she never felt any guilt and let go of the past." He said pointing at Bella.

He then moved his finger to Glen. "Glen, however, held on to the past. It enraged him and pushed him to get stronger. He knew Bella was alive and wanted him to pay since he blamed her for starting the fire. When Glen finally got his hands on Bella, they always brawled whenever they got a chance." he said. "They don't know the fire was my fault?" I asked.

"No. but if you do this one thing for me, I will send you back and you can set things straight with your family," he said. "Why me?" I asked. "Your mom said you were the right person for the job. I agree and so does my master," he said.

"So then, tell me what to do," I said accepting his offer. "Well, when we arrive at our destination, you will be given a body similar to your current one, the only difference being that it will be stronger. You will also be given the power to reap souls from the weak and strong alike. You will also be given the power to become bigger than any potential opponents. You will also see what can't be seen and touch what can't be touched." said the reaper.

"I accept," I said. "Very well Deadman," he said. I then felt my skin burn as a flash of bolt lightning struck me. I felt a strong force pull me into the ground where my body began to grow and change.
